Description
United States Patent 3,107,663 GAS STOVE Eunice F. Lambert, Glenheim Apts., 911 N. Central Ave., Phoenix 4, Ariz. Filed May 3, 1962, Ser. No. 193,071 1 Claim. (Cl. 12685) This invention pertains to gas stoves for space heating, cooking and the like.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a gas stove which is highly eflicient in operation and which retains substantially all of the heat arising from the burning gas.
Another object of this invention is to provide a gas stove having more efiicient burning of all of the products of combustion so as to minimize air polluting discharges from the stove.
It is also an object to cause the heat arising from the burning gas to impinge against the underside of the stove cover so as to spend its energy by radiation, absorption and deflection to transfer maximum heat to the stove cover and to consume substantially all unburned products of combustion.
Another object of this invention is to provide a gas stove of such particular construction as to preserve the purity of the in rooms in which the stove is operating, so the unpleasant odors and injurious gases normally emanating therefrom are fully combusted, purified, destroyed and rendered harmless.
A further object is to provide a gas stove so constructed that the gaseous fuel is repeatedly subjected to the oxidizing effects of heated air within the stove adjacent the hot cover of the stove.
It is also an object to provide the aforementioned gas stove with simplicity and economy of construction while at the same time attaining approximately the complete oxidation of all of the combustable elements in the gaseous fuel thus increasing the economy of the apparatus by the consumption of the oxygen in large quantities in the heated air.
Another object is to provide a gas stove so constructed as to utilize one or more Bunsen gas burners which will spread the flames against the under side of the top cover of the stove in such a manner as to distribute the heat evenly over a relatively wide area with the flame concealed inside the body of the stove.
And a further purpose of this invention is to provide a gas stove of the character described which may be placed at any place in a room without being connected to a flue outlet and which will not give off any preceptible odor, the products of combustion being returned to the burner to insure a perfect combustion of all gases essential in a portable gas stove for satisfactory results.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a general front perspective view of a gas stove incorporating the features of this invention.
FIG. 2 is a rear elevation of the stove of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of the stove of FIGS. 1 and 2.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 5 is an outside view showing the arrangement of the stove for a motor vehicle.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention 3,167,663 Patented Oct. 22, 1963 ice there is shown a gas stove having a circular bottom 10 and the cylindrical body 11 fixed thereto. The body 11 extends downwardly below the bottom 10 and has suitably fastened thereto and abutting the underside of the bottom 10 the support legs 12. The cylindrical body 11 extends upwardly above the bottom 10 and terminates in a lip 13. A heat radiating top diaphragm 14 is rigidly fixed by its periphery to the inside of the cylindrical body 11 and located below the lip 13 of the body 11.
A Bunsen burner 15, preferably having a series of discharge openings 16 directed upwardly against the underside of the top diaphragm 14, is mounted on the supply pipe 17 connected by a suitable elbow fitting 18 to the bracket 19 fixed to the underside of the bottom 10. The usual air mixing intake fitting 20 and control stop cock 21 are supported by the bracket 22 fixed to the bottom 10, the intake fitting being connected to the elbow fitting 18.
A horizontally slidable arcuate shaped access door 23 is slidably mounted in suitable guide members 24 carried on the front of the body 11 of the stove to provide means for lighting the burner 15 and checking its burning rate. A series of openings 25, FIG. 4, are formed in the rear portion of the body 11 diametrically opposite the access door 23 and located below the underside of the top diaphragm 14 and above the burner 15, an air inlet opening 26 is formed in the bottom 10 around the supply pipe 17.
In instances where the stove is to be used in a motor vehicle, a butane gas tank 27 may be connected to the stop cock 21 to supply the burner 15. Instead of the opening 26, FIG. 4, an outside air intake pipe 28 is connected to the stove while discharge gases are conveyed from the stove through the discharge pipe 29 through the usual windshield defroster apparatus, not shown, tothe outside discharge line 30.
In operation, the burner 15 plays an intensely hot flame against the center portion of the underside of the top diaphragm 14 causing a radiation of heat from the upper surface thereof into the space to be heated. A recirculation of burned and-unburned gases. takes place in a pattern as shown by the arrows 31 causing the gases to be completely oxidized in the presence of the burner flame and the heated underside of the intensely hot top diaphragm 14. Minor ventilation of the thoroughly burned gases within the stove is obtained by air intake through the opening 26 and outwardly through the openings 25, indioated by the arrows 32 and 33, respectively, FIGURE 4, or lines 28 and 29 in FIG. 5 for vehicle installation.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as tall within the scope of the appendant claim are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
A gas stove comprising in combination:
(a) a circular bottom,
(b) a cylindrical body fixed to and extending upwardly from the peripheral edge of said bottom,
(0) a downwardly extending portion on said cylindrical body below said circular bottom,
(d) support legs fixed to said downwardly extending portion and abutting the underside of said bottom,
(6) a lip on the top edge of said cylindrical body,
(1) a 'heat radiating top diaphragm rigidly fixed at its peripheral edge to the inside of said cylindrical body and located below the lip of said cylindrical body,
(g) a burner having a series of discharge openings adapted to direct gas flames against the underside of said top diaphragm,
(h) a supply pipe adapted to support said burner as \recited carried on said circular bottom,
(i) a horizontally slidable arcuate shaped access door mounted in guide members on the concave front of said cylindrical body for access to light said burner,
