HERMANN EGELLS, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING LEAD VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,500, dated January 6, 1885. Application filed November 1, 1884. (N0 model.) Patented in France October 19, 1583, No. 158,120,- in England December .28, 1883,
No. 5,894, and in Austria-Hungary June 19, 1884, No.
9,859 and No. 26,458.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMANN EGELLS, of Berlin, Prussia, German Empire, councilor of commerce, have invented a new and useful improvement in the construction of vessels or apparatus exposed to corrosive action, (for which I have obtained Letters Patentin France October 19, 1883, No. 158,120; in England and Ireland December 28, 1883, No. 5,894, and in Austria-Hungary June 19, 1884, No. 9,859 and No. 26,458,) of which the following is a specification.
The accompanying drawing illustrates one of my improved lead-lined vessels.
For many chemical operations itis necessary to use vessels or apparatus made of lead, so as to present a metallic surface that is not readily corroded by the substances treated;
I an alloy like type'metal, consisting chiefly of lead and antimony, to which a little copper may be added. The surfaces that are to be exposed to the action of the chemicals are then coated over with a thin layer of pure soft lead fused upon them by the blow-pipe. so that there is an actual soldering of the lead to the alloy. The other surfaces of the vessels or apparatus, if they are to be exposed to air, steam, or damp, are preferably tinned in the usual Way.
I claim as my invention- The described improvement in the mana facture of vessels and apparatus to be exposed to corrosive action,consisting in constructing the body of the same of one of the harder a1- loys of leadsuch as type-metaland then coating the surface or surfaces to be exposed to such corrosive action with lead fused directlyupon the same, as hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMANN EGELLS.
