(Cl. 4-159) This invention relates generally to hair grooming apparatus, and more specifically to an attachment for the head which apparatus enables effective shampoo operation to be performed whilst the wearer is in an upright sitting position.

The conventional method of Washing hair at a barbers shop is to lower ones head over the basin in a somewhat uncomfortable position such thatwater and soap used during the shampoo will drain from the head into the basin. This operation generally involves moving from the conventional haircut chair to a special chair disposed adjacent a suitable sink or wash-stand. Such reorientation not only involves time but also requires the provision of further space in the barbers shop. It would therefore be on pedient to provide a device wherein the customer may remain seated in the same chair for both the haircut and hairwash operation, and wherein the washing may be undertaken under conditions considerably more favorable and comfortable to the customer.

It is therefore a primary object of this invention to provide a shampooing apparatus which may be simply mounted about the base of the neck to eifectively drain water and soap resulting from washing the hair in a substantially erect position of the head.

It is a further object of this invention to provide a device for washing the head whilst in an erect position, which device is comfortable to wear and permits adequate access to the head during the washing operation.

Briefly, the invention involves the provision of a conically shaped container, which is adapted to extend about the rear of a persons head to present a surrounding trough which is comfortably sealed against. the neck of the wearer. A mounting strap extends about the chin of the wearer which strap is provided with supplementary ear straps for effectively positioning the container in a firm and waterproof manner about the neck. A water drain pipe extends from the bottom of the container at the 'back of the neck and is adapted to drain water collected therein to an adjacent sink.

A full understanding of the details of the invention, together with further advantages, will become apparent by reference to the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, taken in conjunction with the attached drawings wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the shampoo apparatus which comprises my invention.

FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the device shown partly in cross section and mounted in position about the neck of a wearer.

FIG. 3 is a cross sectional rear elevation taken along the line 3-3 of FIG. 2.

FIG. 4 is a plan view taken along the line 4-4 of FIG. 3.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 5 represents a he-adsupported by a neck 6' and showing an ear 7 and forwardly extending chin 8. The apparatus comprises a semi-circular conical wall 9 which has radially inwardly directed end walls 10 having a waterproofing sleeve 11 mounted over the inwardly directed edge 12 thereof. A small semi-circular ring shaped base 13 extends horizontally to form the contour of the neck 6, and a flexible pipe 14 communicates with the central portion of base 13 and provides a liquid discharge to an adjacent sink, not shown in the drawings.

A neck band 15 is secured about its lower edge to the inner periphery of the base and extends beyond each end thereof to terminate with an adjust-able fastener 16 adapted to engage about the chin ti. The neck band forms a water seal between the base and the neck and further provides the main securing means for the apparatus. Two supplementary straps 17 are secured in a spaced apart relationship to the upper edge of the neck band and are adapted to loop over the ears '7 to provide vertical downward restraint for the neck hand 15. It will be clear from the drawings that the application of the apparatus is a simple matter; and said apparatus is found to be comfortable and waterproof in use.

Having described the invention in a preferred form, it will be appreciated that some modifications may be made to the precise configuration, with out departing from the scope or spirit of the invention, as defined by the fo1- lowing claims.

I claim:

1. A barber shop shampoo apparatus for mounting about the neck and headwhilst in an erect position, and comprising, a semi-circular conical wall adapted to extend in a spaced manner about the rear of the head, a ring shaped base secured to the lower edge of the wall, end walls extending radially inwardly towards each other from the conical wall ends and terminating with a water proofing sleeve for abutment with opposite sides of the head, said conical wall combining with the end walls and the base to provide a container to collect water running from the head during a shampoo, a pipe communicating through the base for conveying liquids from the container and a neck band upstanding about the inner edge of the base and extending therebeyond to terminate with a fastener for engaging about the chin.

2. A shampoo apparatus according to claim 1, wherein supplementary straps are secured to the neck band and are adapted to extend over the ears to provide a vertical support for the neck band to maintain the same in position.

3. A shampoo apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said fastener is adjustable for securing about necks of varying size.

Claims

1. A BARBER SHOP SHAMPOO APPARATUS FOR MOUNTING ABOUT THE NECK AND HEAD WHILST IN AN ERECT POSITION, AND COMPRISING, A SEMI-CIRCULAR CONICAL WALL ADAPTED TO EXTEND IN A SPACED MANNER ABOUT THE REAR OF THE HEAD, A RING SHAPED BASE SECURED TO THE LOWER EDGE OF THE WALL, END WALLS EXTENDING RADIALLY INWARDLY TOWARDS EACH OTHER FROM THE CONICAL WALL ENDS AND TERMINATING WITH A WATER PROOFING SLEEVE FOR ABUTMENT WITH OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE HEAD, SAID CONICAL WALL COMBINING WITH THE END WALLS AND THE BASE TO PROVIDE A CONTAINER TO COLLECT WATER RUNNING FROM THE HEAD DURING A SHAMPOO, A PIPE COMMUNICATING THROUGH THE BASE FOR CONVEYING LIQUIDS FROM THE CONTAINER AND A NECK BAND UPSTANDING ABOUT THE INNER EDGE OF THE BASE AND EXTENDING THEREBEYOND TO TERMINATE WITH A FASTENER FOR ENGAGING ABOUT THE CHIN.
