United tiles The present invention relates to horticulture devices generally and in particular to a trellis assembly upon which vines, canes of rose bushes, or the like may be trained.
An object of the present invention is to provide a unitary structure in the form of a trellis for attachment to a vertical wall surface, one of neat appearance, one highly efiicient for the purpose intended, one easily removed and as easily replaced on the wall surface, and one which may be manufactured in quantity at reasonable cost.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a trellis structure or assembly which lends itself to manufacture from aluminum or other light weight metal, will not stain or disfigure wall surfaces, may be removed for painting the wall surface, and may be manufactured in such1 shapes and forms as may be found practical or des11'e These and other objects will be readily apparent from the following description when considered in the light of the annexed drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the trellis assembly of the present invention,
FIG. 2 is a perspective view, on an enlarged scale, of the bracket of the assembly,
FIG. 3 is a side elevational view of the bracket of FIG. 2,
FIG. 4 is a top plan view of the assembly of FIG. 1,
FIG. 5 is an elevational view of a part of the assembly of FIG. 1 as viewed from the rear,
FIG. 6 is a view on an enlarged scale taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 5,
FIG. 7 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of one of the clamp elements shown in FIG. 5, and
FIG. 8 is a perspective view of a vertical slot of the assembly showing one clamp element in use.
In the drawings a vertical wall surface is indicated at 10 and the assembly of the present invention is designated generally by the numeral 12.
The assembly comprises a plurality of vertically disposed sockets fonmed by horizontally disposed strap members 14 bent so as to form a U-shaped socket portion 16 with legs 18 for securement to the wall surface 10.
A Z-shaped bar member 20 has one end portion 22 I received in the socket portion 16 and the midportion 24 projecting horizontally out from the wall surface 10.
, The other end portion 26 projects upwardly and is received in the socket formed by an oifset portion 28 i of a clamp element 30 which has inwardly turned leg portions 32 embracingly engaging one of the vertical or upright slats 34 of the assembly 12.
As many upright slats 34 may be used in the assembly 12, together with as many connecting slats 36, as may i be desired. At least three clamp elements 30 are needed The use of the assembly will be obvious to any person interested in horticulture generally and the training of rose bushes or vines in particular. First, the strap members 14 are secured to the wall surf-ace 10 in the desired location. Next the bar members 20 are attached to the members 14, and next, the trellis slats 34 and 36 in pro-assembled condition, are secured to the bar members 20. Finally, after the plant stems or canes have grown upward, they may be securely trained to the slats 34, 36 by judicious placing of the clamp elements 40 so as to loosely support the canes 41 in the desired position.
What is claimed is:
1. An invention of the character described, comprising a trellis embodying a trio of upright slats each one of which is rectangular when viewed from the end thereof, the said slats being secured in the basic outline of a trapezoid when viewed from the front or rear side thereof by a plurality of connecting slats the upper and lowermost one of which is in a horizontal position while the intermediate slats form a pair of spaced inverted Vs and clamps secured to the rear portion of each of the said upright slats, each clamp having a basic top view configuration on an inverted letter U having an ofiset horizontally disposed portion provided with a centrally located opening, square in shape in which is placed one end of a Z-shaped bar member while the other end of the same said Z-shaped bar member is placed in a clamp similar to the already described clamp, the second said clamp being secured to a vertical wall surface disposed and a plurality of clamping elements secured to the rear of the said upright slats securing a vine to the rear portion of the trellis formed by the assembly of the said slats.
2. An invention of the character described, comprising a trellis embodying a trio of upright slats each one of which is rectangular when viewed from the end thereof, the said slats being secured in the basic outline of a trapezoid when viewed from the front or rear side thereof by a plurality of connecting slats the upper and lowermost one of which is in a horizontal position while the intermediate slats form a pair of spaced inverted Vs and a trio of clamps one of which is secured to the centrally located lower portion of a centrally located upright slat in line with the lowermost horizontally disposed sl'at while the other two said clamps are secured to the upper portion of the side upright slats, one clamp being secured to each one of the said side upright slats and in line with the upper most one of the horizontally disposed slats, each clamp having a basic top view configuration on an inverted letter U having an olfset, horizontally disposed portion provided with a centrally located opening, square in shape in which is placed one end of a Z-shaped bar member while the other end of the same said Z-shaped bar member is placed in a clamp similar to the already described clamp, the second said clamp being secured to a vertical wall surface disposed and a plurality of clamping elements secured to the rear of the said up-right slats securing a vine to the rear portion of the trellis formed by the assembly of the said slats.
