Description

June 18, 1963 5, MAURICE 3,094,148
PICKER-STICK CHECK BRACKET Filed Nov. 9, 1960 SYLVIO J. MAURICE ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,094,148 PICKER-STICK CHECK BRACKET Sylvio J. Maurice, 579 Hunt St., Central Falls, R.l. Filed NOV. 9, 1960, Ser. No. 68,298 3 Claims. (Cl. 139-165) This invention relates to fly shuttle looms, and relates more particularly to improvements in mounting brackets for picker-stick checks secured to said looms.
More specifically, the instant invention is directed to a bracket which supports a novel picker-stick check which is the subject of my application Serial No. 68,299, filed November 9, 1960, and which is to be used in conjunction with existing brackets aflixed .to the lays of conventional fly shuttle looms.
Check straps of leather or other materials heretofore did not have a long life and were a source of considerable expense in the production of woven products since they were relatively expensive and had to be replaced at frequent intervals.
In my copending application, I have devised a pickerstick check which overcomes the aforementioned disadvantages.
It is an important object of this invent-ion to provide an improved bracket for supporting the picker-stick check set forth in my copending application.
A further object of this invention is to provide a bracket which is adapted to support my picker-stick check on the existing brackets which are afixed to the lays of conventional fly shuttle looms.
Still another object of the instant invention is to devise a check strap mounting bracket which shall be effective to prolong the life of check straps, the bracket being designed to eliminate tearing at the edges of the strap while the strap is supported by said bracket.
Another object of this invention is to provide a mounting bracket which shall be relatively simple and inexpensive.
Other objects and advantages of this invention, together with certain details of construction and combination of parts, will appear from the following detailed description and will be pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings,
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of my novel adapter bracket looking upwards toward the bottom of the bracket;
FIGURE 2 is a top view of the bracket;
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the bracket; and
FIGURE 4 is a vertical sectional view taken at line 4-4 of FIGURE 1 and showing my bracket secured to one of the existing brackets aflixed to a loom.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring now to the drawing for a detailed description of this invention, reference numeral designates generally my novel mounting bracket which simply supports and guides the check strap (not shown) without any clamping action while also supporting my novel pickerstick check heretofore referred to.
The bracket consists of a depending plate 11 which is cut out at .12 to define a pair of strap engaging faces 13, 14 which bear against the inner surface of a check strap (not shown). The faces .13, 14 are provided at their lower ends with integral forwardly extending projections 15, 16 which support and prevent downward movement of the strap when it is loose or is being adjusted.
The bracket 10 is further provided with a forwardly extending flange 17 which is provided with an elongated drilled hole 18 for receiving a spindle 1'9 which supports 3,094,148 Patented June 18, 1963 ice my novel picker-stick check heretofore referred to. Flange 17 is provided with an apertured elongated rib 20, the rib being of a suitable dimension to interfit with a portion 21 of the bracket 22 (shown in dot-ted lines) which is afiixed to the lay of the loom (not shown) and is also provided with a recessed portion 23 positioned adjacent the depending faces 13, 14 for accommodating the de pending portion 24 of the bracket 22. The flange 17 is also cut away adjacent rib 20 to permit access to the pickerstick check supported by said bracket.
-In operation, the bracket 10 secured to bracket 22 with the laterally extending flange 17 supporting my novel picker-stick check shown in dotted lines in FIGURE 1. The underside of the flange 17 at the same time cooperates with projections 15, 16 in defining a channel in which the lower edge of the check strap rests and freely slides.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have devised a mounting bracket which is relatively simple and inexpensive and which is adapted to be aflixed to the existing brackets now in use on fly shuttle looms, thereby saving the manufacturers of woven goods the expense of purchasing new brackets when employing my novel picker-stick check.
The present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is hereby claimed to be new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A bracket adapted to be attached to a supporting element affixed to a fly shuttle loom wherein a picker-stick and check strap therefor are employed, comprising a flange portion for securing said bracket to said supporting element and including an apertured rib portion engageable with said supporting element, means on said flange for supporting a spindle and a recess intermediate the rib and supporting means for receiving a part of said supporting element, the bracket further including spaced parallel strap engaging faces defining a downwardly depending portion and integral projections mounted on said strap engaging faces for supporting the check strap.
2. A bracket for attachment to a supporting member aflixed to the lay of a fly shuttle loom, said bracket comprising .a flange portion for securing said bracket to the supporting member, said flange portion being provided with an apertured elongated rib which interfits with a part of the supporting member, and a portion depending therefrom, said latter portion including means for guiding and supporting a check strap mounted thereon, said flange portion further including an aperture to receive a spindle carried by said bracket.
3. A bracket for attachment to a supporting member affixed to the lay of a fly shuttle loom, said bracket comprising a flange portion for securing said bracket to the supporting member, said flange portion being provided with an apertured elongated rib which interfits with a part of the supporting member, and a portion depending therefrom, said latter portion including means for guiding and supporting a check strap mounted thereon, said flange portion further including a recess to accommodate a part of the supporting member.
