UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTON KABEL WALLA, OF NORTH BEND, NEBRASKA.
' PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308.813l dated DeCember 2. 1884- Application filed March 28,1884. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern: y
Be it known that I, ANTON K. WALLA, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Bend, in the county of Dodge and State Of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to plows; and it consists in the improved construction hereinafter' sct forth and claimed.
Figure l is a plan. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a view of one ofthe parts de- Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the same, partly in section. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the same, partly in section.
A represents the stock or draft-post, having curved lateral projection a', provided with a series of bolt-holes for a purpose here` inafter set forth, and also with arecessed rear extension, c, Or landside-plate made integral with the stock, the same being provided with bolt-holes for securing the glass finishingpiece to the Outside thereof. The curved lateral projection a of the stock A is braced by ribs g, also made integral with the stock, which has a rear recess, as shown in Fig. 5.
B is a metal plate curved in the forni Of a mold-board, and provided with a number Of bolts near the outer edgethereof, and also with a series of bolt-holes corresponding to those in the lateral projection of the stock, and also with a series of larger holes through the body thereof, which are to be beveled from the glass side, for a purpose hereinafter set forth.
B is a glass plate or piece made in the form of a mold-board, and to correspond in shape to the plate B, and also provided with a series of projections inwardly, or shoulders to t in the large holes in the body of the plate B, and be thereby held in position against the friction of the draft. The glass piece B is also provided with a series Of bolt-holes corre` sponding to those in the stock projection a', and to those in the metal piece B, the same being countersunk for the reception of screw-headed bolts, by means of which it is secured to the plate B, vas shown at E', Figs. l, 2, and to the stock projection a by the tous E, as Shown in Eig. 2. The stoer A is provided with a rib, D, which makes an even surface-finish with the moldboard B. The plate B is provided with a rib, b, which makes an even surface-finish with the mold-board, and protects its front edge from contact with the ground or other objects. The plate B is extended forward of the rib b sufficiently for the attachment and support Of the cutting plate C, which is secured thereto by countersunk screw-headed bolts c, and forms an even surface-finish with the rib b and mold-board B.
A is a steel plate having ailared point, A, and beveled lto a sharp cutting-edge at the front, and secured to the side ofthe stock A by countersunk screw-headed bolts, and makes an even surface-finish with the glass landside, which is bolted to the landsideplate a, as shown at E, Figs. I and 2. The rear end of the landside is provided with a iiange, which,
with the bOltE", holds the glass piece secure-` ly against the friction of the draft. The front edge of the landside-glass is protected by the steel cutting-.plate A.
rllhe plow draft-beam and handles' may be attached in the ordinary way.
No particular form Ot' plow is necessary, but the improvement is applicable to and intended for all kinds Of plows, the acute curves in the drawings being used principally for illustrating the construction suitable for use in this connection- I am aware that previous to my invention it has been proposed to face mold-boards with glass, and hence I do not desire to be under# stood as making any broad claim thereto.
Having explained the features and Operation of my improvement, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
lhe combination, in a plow, of the stock, the plates af and B, secured thereto as described, the glass plates secured to face the plates a B, and abutting against bearing-ribs formed on the stock, and on plates a B. and steel cutting-plate C, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
ANTON KAREL WALLA.
