(CI. 45-28) This invention relates to a soap container, and more particularly to a receptacle having the form of a Whale, the mouth portion thereof being adapted to receive and dispense a bar of soap in an amusing, novel and useful manner.

The primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved container for holding a bar of soap, the said container being the mouth portion of a toy whale adapted for use within a conventional bath-tub.

A further object of the instant invention is the provision of a toy whale, comical in appearance, the mouth portion thereof being adapted to receive and dispense a bar of soap thus engendering willingness in children toward bath taking.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a soap receptacle having a soap holding platform flexible of configuration to thereby obviate an otherwise common difficu lty of soap sticking to a soap holding platform.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a soap receptacle securable to the side of a bath tub or capable of floating upon the water therein.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a device of the aforementioned class which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture, durable, sanitary, pleasing in appearance and highly efiicient in use.

It will be understood that the foregoing general objectives and the following detailed description as Well are exemplary and explanatory but are not restrictive of the invention.

The invention consists in the novel parts, constructions, arrangements, combinations and improvements herein shown and described. The accompanying drawings refer-ted to here-in and constituting a part hereof, illustrate one embodiment of the invention, and together with the description, serve to explain the principles of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings, for the purpose of illustnating an embodiment of the present invention, it is shown designated generally by numeral 1 and assumes the configuration of a toy whale, the purpose thereof being the amusement of children.

Whale 1, the housing for the soap receptacle of the instant device, is preferably a plastic or rubber toy model of convenient size adapted for removable attachment to the side wall of a bath tub as shown in FIGURE 4- 0f the drawings. Suction cup 2 is herein employed as a means for accomplishing such attachment, it being understood that other means, e.g., magnets may be utilized in lieu thereof.

Front opening 4 located in the region of the mouth portion of the whale provides access to bottom wall 6 which is covered by insert 8, said insert functioning as the platform adapted to support and dispense a bar of soap according to this invention. Insert 8 being constructed of a flexible material, e.g., polymeric vinyl or ethylene, rubber, etc, is positioned to provide a lining superposed 2 Within said front opening 4 and loosely covering top wall 1%), back wall 1-2 and bottom Wall 6 as shown in FIGURE 2 of the drawings.

Projection 14 extending rearwardly from said insert 8 is guidably slidable within slot 16 vertically positioned within said back wall 12. Wall 18- further provided'behind the said back wall and in spaced parallel relation therewith, provides guide opening 20, the function thereof being to laterally support and guide cam members 22 and 2 4, said cam members being capable of vertical rotary movement about pivot sockets 26 and 28 respectively.

t will be observed that a downward force applied to fin 30 will efiectuate upward movement of cam 22 thereby moving projection 14 upwardly Within slot 16.

Shoulder ridges 32 and 34 provided widthiwise across the inside contour of the forward end of the upper and lower wall of the said front opening function to restrain forward movement of the upper and lower terminal ends 36 and 3 8 of said insert 8, thereby retaining said insert within said front opening and further permitting the accomplishment of the objects of the invention.

Consonant with those objects it will be appreciated that in its solid line downward position, projection 14 will permit insert -8 to fit snugly and substantially parallel and in superposed relation with respect to lower wall 6. Accordingly soap bar 40' will be retained and supported above the said lower wall by virtue of the solid line normal configuration of said insert as illustrated in FIG- URES l and 2 of the drawings. Upon movement of projection 14 to the broken line configuration designated by numeral 42, insert 8 will be transformed from its said normal substantially parallel position thereby assuming a downward slope in the direction from the said back wall to the forward end of the said bottom wall. In the course of said transformation, the soap bar 40 is dislodged from insert 8, any dried or sticking contiguity between the surfaces thereof being ruptured by virtue of the change of contour, the soap thereafter being dispensed by virtue of the downward slope heretofore described.

It will be understood that the instant device may be utilized as a floating soap receptacle, the whale employed being buoyant and self-sustaining upon the surface of the bath tub water. Although the preferred embodiment of the device has been described, it will be further understood that Within the purview of this invention various changes may be made in the form, details, proportion and arrangement of parts, the combination thereof and mode of operation, which generally stated consist in a device capable of carrying out the objects set forth, as disclosed and defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A soap receptacle comprising a front opening having a forward end, a back wall, a top wall and a bottom wall, a flexible insert loosely superposed with respect to said top and said bottom wall internally of said opening, means for restraining movement of said insert beyond the forward end of said opening, a projection extending from said insert, a slot in said back Wall, said projection being s-lidable within said slot, a cam adapted to move said said projection within said slot thus effectuating change of contour of said insert with respect to said bottom wall.

A soap receptacle according to claim 1 wherein the means for restraining movement of said insert beyond the forward end of said opening is comprised of a shoulder ridge positioned within said top wall and said bottom wall, each of said shoulder ridges being substantially parallel with respect to said back wall.

3. A soap receptacle comprising a front opening having a forward end, back, top and bottom walls, a flexible insert restrainably secured at the forward end of said bottom wall, said flexible insert being movably superposed with 3,0es,19o

respect to said back and bottom walls, and means adapted to change the contour of the insert with respect to said bottom wall.

4. A soap receptacle according to claim 3 wherein said means for changing the contour of said insert engages said insert through said back wall.

5. A soap receptacle comprising a front opening having a forward end, back, top and bottom walls, an opening in said back wall, a flexible insert restrainably secured at the forward end of said bottom wall, said flexible insert being movably superposed with respect to said back, top and bottom walls, means engaging said flexible insert to thereby change the contour of said insert, said means being disposed for engaging said insert through said opening.

6. A soap receptacle comprising a mouth portion having back, top and bottom walls, said bottom wall being superposed by a flexible insert and means adapted to change the contour of said insert with respect to said bottom wall, said means being actuated through said back wall.
