BAG-FASTENER,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 302,920, dated August 5, 1384. Application tied May 2, 1884. (No model.)
.To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FnANcrs H. LUDING- TON, of St. Louis, Missouri, have made a new and useful Improvement in Bag-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making pant of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a view in perspective of a bag having the improved fastening closed; Fig. 2, a view in perspective of the bag opened; Fig. 3, a top view of the bag closed, and Fig. 4 a top View of the bag opened.
The sameletters of reference denote the saine parts.
This improvement is intended especially for what are termed ore-bags;7 but I do not wish to be confined to that class of bags.
A represents a bag. B B represent two bars, Which are fastened to the bag at its mouth, respectively at opposite sides thereof', so that when the bag is opened the bars are entirely separated from each other, substantially as shown in Figs. 2, 4; and when the bag is closed, the bars can be brought together and made to inclose lthe folded bag, substantially as shown in Figs. l, 3. The bar B at one end, b, thereof, has a hook, C, pivoted therein at c. The other end, b', ofthe bar has a slot, b2, and a perforation, b3, passing through the bar at both sides of the slot, substantially as shown. The other bar, B, has a slot, c, and
pin, c2, passing through the bar and slot, substantially as shown in Figs. 2, 3. The hook C is adapted, when the bag is closed, to pass into the slot c and hook around the pin ci, as shownin Fig. 3. The bar Bis provided with a latch, D,Which is pivoted to the bar at d, and Whose free end is adapted to pass into the slot b2 in the bar B, and to be secured therein by means of the pin e, Which is adapted to be passed down through the perforation b and within the neck of the latch, as shown. This pin e is preferably connected With the bag by means ot' the chain E, as shown in Figs. l, 2. To open the bag, the pin c is Withdrawn and the latch detached from the bar B, the hook C detached from the pin c?, and the bars separated, and the bag opened at the. mouth, as shown in Figs. 2, 4, and when it is desired to close the bag; the bars are brought together, the hook C is hooked around the pin ci, and the latch D is secured in thel slot 12"', as shown in Figs. l, 3. This advantage accrues from the present construction. The bag can bc Afilled to better advantage.
The combination, substantially as described, of the bag A, the bars B B', the hook C, the pin ci, the latch D, and the pin c. y
