Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 30,172, dated September 25, 1860.

T o all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J. G. VVHITWELL, of

the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operat-ion of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part. of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view. inside View. Fig. 3 a side View. view of the expanded roller end.

Shade xtures have before been invented to be used without a ratchet pulley in a variety of ways by the application of friction to the roller end in different positions.

The nature of this invention is by expanding the end in an oval box, which serves for its socket pressing` the shade cord against the inner surface of the box or socket, thus holding the shade in any position and causing it to revolve either way by pulling either of the cords.

That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

Holding the shade cord or band against a friction surface by expanding the roller end or by an equivalent.
