(Cl. 24-3) The present invention relates broadly to a device adapted to embrace the wrist for the purpose of aiding in the securing of various jewelry items around the wrist, such as a bracelet.

Those who wear bracelets, particularly bracelets of the loose link or flexible type, as well as the usual wrist watch strap or attachment, often find difficulty in securing the same about the wrist. The bracelet, by way of example, tends to slip and the jewelry item is often dropped. The present invention is so constituted and arranged as to be applied readily to the wrist to hold one end of the jewelry item against movement, while the remaining length of the item is passed around the wrist with the loose end fastened to the secured end by the usual catch.

An object of the invention is the provision of a clip which is attractive in appearance, easily carried and applied to the wrist, inexpensive to purchase and of assistance in applying various jewelry items around the wrist.

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of one form of clip applied to the wrist with one end of the clip holding one end of a jewelry item which is to encircle the wrist;

FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of clip.

Referring now to the drawing, I have shown in perspective one form of clip 1 adapted for application to the wrist 2 of a person and which clip may take the form shown in FIGURES 2 and 3, and comprises a fiat strap, formed of any suitable resilient, flat material. The clip is semi-circular as shown at 3 and is intended to embrace the wrist 2 so as to be held against movement. The clip has a length suflicient to embrace one side of the Wrist and at least one-half of the top and bottom surfaces of the wrist. One end of the clip 1 terminates in a rolled portion 4 while the opposite end is provided with an upstanding lug or hook 5. Preferably the hook is bent at an acute angle to that portion of the clip which embraces the top of the wrist, as shown in FIGURE 2 at 6. The clip 1 may vary in width from the rolled end 4 to and including the hook 5. Thus the sides 7 and 8 uniformly converge to the hook end and the hook is shown as being bifurcated at 9. The convergent sides 7 and 8 narrows the clip on top of the wrist which is an advantage when a jewelry item, adapted to encircle the wrist, has one end thereof secured to the hook, as this "ice construction will allow ready application of one end of a clasp to the hook.

The modified form of clip shown in FIGURE 4 includes a resilient, flat strap 10 of semi-circular form of uniform width with one end, 11, cut transversely with the cut portion returned-1y bent at 12 and bent straight upwardly to provide a lug or hook 13 approximately in alignment with the side 14 of the clip.

Both clips are formed of resilient material so as to closely embrace different sized wrists.

The operation, uses and advantages of the invention just described, are as follows.

The clip 1 is shown in FIGURE 1 as in part encircling the wrist of a person. The jewelry item 15 has an end ring 16 with hook 6 passed through said ring. Thus one end of the jewelry item, which in the present instance is a bracelet, is fixed while the remaining loose portion of the bracelet is passed around the Wrist, as indicated by the dotted lines 17, whereby a clasp 18, secured to the opposite end of the bracelet, may be passed through the ring 16 and secured thereto. After the bracelet is secured in position, the clip 1 may be removed from the wrist. The same procedure would be followed for the clip 10 shown in FIGURE 4.

It is obvious that the clips shown may be formed from precious metals suitably jeweled, or otherwise engraved or ornamented, or may take a simple form utilizing a non precious metal, or for that matter, a plastic, as long as the clip is resilient. The bifurcated hook, as shown at 9, may receive wrist watch attachments which are often formed from a round type of cord with one end of the cord received between the furcations. Regardless of the type of attachment or the character of the jewelry item which is to encircle the wrist, the present invention is adaptable to securing the same for passage around the wrist so that the jewelry item may be secured by a clasp.

I claim:

A device for applying a jewelry item around the wrist of a person, including: a resilient fiat band bent to transversely conform to and partly encompass the wrist, said band having a progressively variable width from one end to the other end thereof and the end of least width provided with a bifurcated hook which is bent upwardly and returnedly to the band length.
