VV'ILLIAM T. NICHOLSON, OF PROVIDENCE, AND TIMOTHY EARLE, OF SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND.
EGG-BEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 30,152, dated September 25, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WVILLIAM T. NICHOL- SON, of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, and TIMOTHY EARLE, of Smithfield, in said county and State, have invented a new and useful In1- provement in Machines for Beating Up the Whites and Yolks of Eggs as well as for Agitating other Fluids; and we do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure 1, is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a view showing the arrangement of the gears for operating the same.
A, Fig. l, is a standard so arranged that it can be secured by the clamp screw B to the bed of the kitchen table. The beveled gear wheel C, to which the crank is attached, engages with the beveled wheels D and E, and as the crank is turned the wheels D and E are rotated in opposite directions. The wheel D is made fast to the spindle F, to the lower end of which is secured the wire frame I, I. The wheel E is attached to the hollow spindle or sheath H, through which the spindle F passes, and to the lower end of the spindle H is secured the propeller blades G G. It is manifest that as the beveled wheels D and E are rotated in opposite directions the wire frame I I and the propeller blades G, G, will also be made to rotate in opposite directions.

e claim in the machine herewith presented an advantage over any other contrivance to accomplish the same object in this that every particle of the fluid to be agitated is thoroughly disturbed by the peculiar action of the propeller blades while the tendency of the liquid to spin around the side of the vessel in which it is beaten is prevented by the current in the counter direction created by the wire frame, if the frame is in motion, or broken by the frame if it is stationary.
It is not necessary that the wire frame should be rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the propeller blades though it is doubtless of advantage to have it so arranged. Nearly the same effect will be produced by having the wire frame stationary while the propeller blades revolve, and the effect may be increased by using several wire frames instead of one alone.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
