GEORGE IV. CORBIN, OF JAMESTOWN, INDIANA.
lRONlNG -TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,056, dated May 20, 1884.
Application filed September 4, 1883. (N model.)
' To all whom it may concern;
- slots therein, as shown.
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Oonmn, of Jamestown, county of Boone, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my said invention is to provide a means of securely and firmly attaching an ironing-board to a common table; and it consists in combining with said table and said board a set of clamps, whereby said ob ject is accomplished, as will be hereinafter more particularly set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a table and ironing-board provided with my invention;Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical section of the same on the dotted line 2 z in Fig. 3; Fig. 3, a transverse vertical section on the dotted line 1 y in Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a detail section similar to a portion of Fig. 8, on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 5, a horizontal section of the leg on the dotted line :0 00, also 011 an enlarged scale.
In said drawings, the portions marked A represent the table; I3, the ironing-board; O G, the clamps, and D an adjustable leg which I prefer to use.
The table A may be any ordinary table, (it is usually a common kitchen-table,) and needs no special description.
The ironing-board B is in itself a common board, but is provided with a securing-bolt, b, the point of which extends above the board,
and is adapted to pass through the slots in the clamps. This bolt has a hand or thumb nut, 1), upon its upper end.
The clamps (J are practically straight bars having slots 0 and hooked ends 0. The inner ends of these clamps are adapted to pass each other, and the bolt b to pass up through the The hooked ends are adapted to hook over the edges a of the table and be thus secured thereto.
The leg D is divided and grooved together, and is further secured by a locking-bolt, d, on which is a hand or thumb nut, 61. It is hinged to the under side of the table 13, and is adapted to turn down and support said table, as shown, whenever required. When it would be in the way, as in ironing shirts, 850., it can be folded up against the under side of the table out of the way.
The operation of my said invention may be recapitulated as follows: WVhen it is desired to use the board, it is laid on the table, the point of the bolt b up. The clamps are then placed thereon, the hooked ends engaging with the wedges of the table, and the slots placed over said bolt. Said clamps are then moved end with the sides of the table, the hand-nut b placed on the bolt and turned down, and the table is ready for use.
For ordinary use, especially in ironing heavy articles, a support for the projecting end of the board is desirable, and I have therefore provided the leg D, as before described. Thus the common table A and common ironing-b0ard B are by the use of my invention transformed into an ironingtable possessing all the advantages of specially-made ironingtables.
Having thus fully described my said inven tion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the table A, of the ironing-board B, and clamps C and clampbolt 1), for securing the same in position, said clamps being hooked to engage with the edges of the table at their outer ends, and extended past and overlapping each other at their in ner ends, and said bolt extending up through said board and said clamps, and provided with the purposes specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 29th day of August, A. D. 1883.
GEO. W. CORBIN. [L. s]
