1 Claim. (Cl. 131-13) This invention relates to an attachment for cigars, and it particularly relates to an improved mouthpiece and inhaling tube for use with cigars.

In most instances, before a cigar is smoked, it is necessary to bite oflE a tip of the cigar to provide an opening to permit draw or flow of air therethrough. This not only Wastes tobacco, but results in fraying of the bittenoff tip. Furthermore, upon biting down upon the cigar while it is in the mouth, the air space within the cigar has a tendency to become clogged because of the mashing of the cigar under pressure.

Various attachments for cigars have heretofore been developed. However, these prior attachments generally included a tip extending outside the cigar for the purpose of being clamped between the teeth. Such external tip, however, did not afford the true taste of the cigar. Furthermore, they could not readily be attached to the cigar by the manufacturer and sold therewith because the increased length would lead to packaging difficulties which could only be overcome by shortening the size of the cigar itself.

It is one object of the present invention to overcome the aforesaid difliculties by providing an attachment which will permit easy, uninterrupted draw through a cigar while yet permitting the cigar itself to be held in the mouth.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an attachment for cigars which can be inserted by the manufacturer and sold with the cigars without increasing the bulk of the package or decreasing the size of the cigars.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an attachment for cigars which permits easy draw without mashing of the cigar and while yet permitting the cigar itself to be held in the mouth.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide an improved attachment for cigars, of the character described, that is easily and economically produced, which is sturdy in construction, and which is highly eflicient in operation.

With the above and related objects in View, the present invention consists in the details of construction and combination of parts, as will be more fully understood from the following description, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:

Referring in greater detail to the drawing wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts, there is shown a cigar 10 having a lighting end 12 and a month end 14. Inserted into the mouth end 14 is an inhaler mouthpiece attachment 16 comprising a generally cylindrical, hollow stem 18 having a beveled front end 20 and a flanged mouthpiece 22.

The mouthpiece 22 is of annular configuration and is provided with a front concavity 24 and a rear convexity 26. This construction of the mouthpiece 22 permits it to conform to the shape of corresponding portion of the cigar 10 whereby the concave portion of the mouthpiece 22 embraces the cigar 10 while the convex portion easily fits into the mouth of the smoker.

The attachment 16 is constructed of any desirable heat-resistant material and is adapted to be positioned in the cigar by the manufacturer so that when the smoker opens the cigar cellophane wrapper or other package, he is immediately possessed of a cigar equipped with the attachment. It is, however, also possible to sell the attachments 16 separately for insertion by the smoker whenever he so desires.

With the attachment 16 in place in the cigar, the smoker may bite down on the cigar, as indicated at 28 in Fig. 1, Without mashing or crushing the cigar because of the inner support provided by the attachment 16. This also serves to maintain a free and clean draw through the cigar uninterrupted by mashed cigar particles.

Although this invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as being illustrative rather than limiting, since the invention may be variously embodied, and the scope of the invention is to be determined as claimed.

Having thus set forth and described the nature of this invention, what is claimed is: v

A cigar tip end attachment comprising a generally cylindrical, hollow heat-resistant stern of substantial annular thickness, one end of said hollow stem being conically beveled inwardly to a thin continuous annular edge, an annular flange on the other end of said hollow stem extending radially outward from said stem, said flange having a concave surface conforming to the shape of the month end tip of a cigar, said concave surface being on the side facing the beveled end, and a convex surface on the opposite side of said flange, said convex surface having a greater curvature than that of said concave surface thereby providing a flange of substantial thickness at the stem junction and terminating in a feather edge, whereby said beveled thinned conical end of said stem facilitates insertion of said stem axially into the mouth tip end of the cigar, said concavo-convex flange abutting the cigar mouth tip end and said flange convex surface merging with the surface of the tip end of the cigar, said thick hollow stem resisting the crushing effect of a bite on the cigar adjacent said cigar mouth end beyond said flange.
