March 14, 1961 D. LEWIS SHAVING APPURTENANCE SUPPORTING DEVICE Filed Sept. 4. 1959 I 7 w w M NY 4; MW
Dean L. Lewis, Bossier City, La. (508 W. 6th St, North Platte, N ebr.)
Filed Sept. 4, 1959, Ser. No. 838,309
Claims. (Cl. 132-80) The present invention relates to a device for supporting shaving appurtenances.
Previously proposed and presently in use are kits for the storage and support of shaving appurtenances. Such kits as have been proposed and are in use are not wholly successful for the reason that they generally fail to make the razor, blades, and shaving cream or soap readily accessible to the user thereof. Additionally, such kits as have been proposed do not make provision for drying of the razor after use, it being desirable to dry a razor in the air after'use. Most of the kits proposed nijted States Patent 0 or in use fail to make provision for thestoring of used razor blades; An object of the present invention is to provide a device for supporting shaving appurtenances which is complete in all respects, and one which makesreadily accessible all the equipment employed in shaving.
. Another object of the presentinvention is to provide a device for supporting shaving appurtenances which is simple in structure, one having means for instantly dispensingshaving cream into the hands of the user, one having means for agitating the container of shaving cream so as, to produce shaving cream in foam form, and one having means for the storage of the razor, new blades, and used blades.
-A further object of the present invention is to provide a device for supporting shaving appurtenances which lends itself to manufacture at reasonable cost, one which is readily attached to and detached from a supporting surface such as a bathroom wall, and one which is economically feasible.
These and other objects and advantages'of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in conjunction with the annexed drawing, in which:
Figure l is an elevational view of the device of, the present .invention as viewed from the front;
Figure 2 is a top plan view;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view with a portion of the device broken away;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view of the upper end portion of the shaving cream container; and
Figure 5 is an isometric view of one of the clamping elements for support of the shaving cream container, the container being shown in dotted lines.
Referringin greater detail to the drawing in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the device of the present invention is designated generally by the reference numeral 10 and it comprises an upstanding backing plate 12-having a forward face 14 and a rear face 16. a
n Means is provided on the rear face 16 ofthe plate 12 for attachment of the plate 12 to a wall surface. This means may take the form of suction cups 18 positioned one at each corner of the plate 12. The Wall surface is designated by the numeral 20 in Figures 2 and 3.
The backing plate 12 is provided with a semicircular 'vided for detachably securing a container 28 to the ledge 24. The container 28 is filled with shaving cream of the aerosol type.
As shown in Figure 4, the container 28 has a spout 30 and a normally closed valve 32 operatively connecting the interior of the container 28 to the spout 30 and depressible to an open position.
A valve actuating element, embodying a spring-biased vertically disposed plunger 34 slidably supported in spaced brackets 36 and 38 which project from the plate 12, is positioned above and-in spaced alignment with respect to the valve 82. 'The lower end of the plunger 34 carries a head 40 which is engageable with the pushbutton 42 of the valve 32 for depressing the latter when the ledge 24 and container 28 are in the upward position, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 3. A thumb button 44 is carried on the upper end of the plunger 34 and a coil spring 46 is circumposed about the portion of the plunger 34' 34 between the bracket 36 and the thumb button 44.
Spring means is provided biasing the ledge 24 to the upward movement position. This spring means consists in a pair of coil springs 48, each having its upper end secured to a lug 50 projectingfrom the plate front face 14 and each having its lower end secured to an extension 52 projecting upwardly on each side of theledge 24.
. Hand actuable means is operatively connected to the ledge 24 for effecting the upward and downward movement of the ledge 24. Specifically, this means includes a horizontally disposed rotatable drive shaft 54 having a portion adjacent one end projecting from the front face 14 of the backing plate 12. The means also includes a crank element in the form of an eccentric 56 mounted on the shaft 54 and a link 58 constituting means connecting the crank element or eccentric 56 with the ledge 24 for effecting the upward and downward movementof the ledge 24 responsive to rotation of the shaft 54.
A disc 61 is carried on the projecting endportion of the shaft '54 and a handle 62, eccentrically arranged on the disc 60, constitutes hand actuable means operatively connected to the projecting end portion ofthe.
shaft 54 for effecting the rotation of the latter. The upper end of the link 58 is received in a ball and socket joint 64 provided on the bottom of the ledge 24. The lower end of the link 58 is secured to a ring 66 which is circumscribed about and rides on the eccentric 5 mounted on the shaft 54.
The shaft 54 is journaled in a strap 68 which extends across the open front of the recess 22 and has its ends anchored in the plate 12. A socket 70 projects from the midportion of the recess 22 and support-s the end of the shaft 54 remote from the disc 60.
The backing plate 12 is provided on one side of the recess 22 with a receptacle or compartment 72 having a slot 74 in the upper end thereof opening outwardly of the plate 12 for the reception of used razor blades.
The backing plate 12 is also provided on the side of the I 1 able into and out of engagement with the rim 84 on the lower end of the container 28. Upon the application of a rotary hand applied force to the handle 62 on the disc 60, the shaft 54 is rotated and the eccentric 56 and link 58 effect the upward and downward movement of the ledge 24 so as to shake the contents of the container 28 and provide shaving soap in foam form when the container 28 is moved to the upward movement position and the plunger 34 is depressed by the application of a hand applied force to the thumb button 44. This effects the opening of the valve 32 in the container 28 and permits the flowing of the soap in foam form out of the spout 32' to the hand of the user for application to the users face for shaving purposes.
The pocket 80 maintains a supply of razor blades 82 in an accessible position and the shelf 76 supportsthe razor 78 in a position instantly accessible to the user of the device of the present invention. Used blades may be discarded through the slot 74 into the receptacle or compartment 72 which when filled may be removed from the device 10 through an opening provided in the rear face 16 of the device 10, such opening not being illustrated for reasons of simplicity.
While only a single embodiment of the present invention has been shown and described, other embodiments may be made and numerous changes and modifications may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
