COMB HOLDER Filed Sept. 5, 1958 mum ATTORNEYS United States Patent COMB HOLDER James W. Simmers, Box 100, RD. 1, Nanty Glo, Pa.
Filed Sept. 3, 1958, Ser. No. 758,780
2 Claims. (Cl. 211-13) The present invention relates to a holder or support for combs or similar articles. More particularly, the present invention pertains to a device for supporting the comb or combs lengthwise in vertical position.
Most combs or similar toilet articles, when not in use, are placed upon shelves, on the tops of basins or on other flat surfaces. Oftentimes, other articles will be placed upon these shelves (or other flat surfaces) in such a manner as to cover the comb completely so as to make its location not readily discernible. Thus, unless one is in the habit of leaving his comb in exactly the same location, the problem of finding a comb occasion-ally involves the lifting of towels, boxes, etc. until a comb is uncovered.
The present invention provides a support or comb holder which may be conveniently located upon a wall or other vertical surface adjacent a mirror and which can hold one or more combs in upright position. Thus, the comb will not be taking up any shelf space which might otherwise be advantageously employed; secondly, the comb will always be kept in the same place such that it may be readily put into use whenever desired.
Briefly stated, the device of the present invention includes a substantially flat base plate which may be screwed into the wall at the desired location. A flat horizontal blade portion projects outwardly from the center of this plate; this flat horizontal blade portion is sufiiciently thin as to be received between the adjacent teeth of a comb. A short vertical plate is provided at the end of the horizontal blade to assist in retaining the combs in position. Another vertical plate is arranged to one side of the blade at right angles to the backing plate also for the purpose of assisting in maintaining the combs in position on the comb holder.
Therefore, it is a principal object of the present invention to provide a comb holder which may be placed on a vertical surface in any convenient location and which is capable of supporting the comb or combs lengthwise (in a vertical position) from which the same may be conveniently removed for use.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a device of -the type referred to above which is simple, inexpensive, and easy to install.
Other and further objects and advantageous features of the present invention will hereinafter more fully ap pear in connection with a detailed description of the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the comb holder of the present invention showing its relationship with two combs, as represented by the dotted lines;
Figure 3 is a front view of the comb holder showing, in dotted lines, a comb retained in its normal supported position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the comb holder of the present invention includes a substantially fiat base plate 1 which may be held in vertical position against any fiat vertical surface (not shown) by means of screws 2 and 3. A short horizontal blade 4 projects out from the base plate 1 adjacent the central portion thereof. This blade portion 4 will be sufiiciently thin as to be received between the adjacent teeth of a comb. As best shown in Figure 2, the blade 4 is sufficiently long, that is, it projects outwardly from the base plate 1 a sufficient distance, to permit the insertion and retention of two or more combs thereon. At the outer end of the 'blade 4 is a small vertical (square) plate or flange 5 which is employed for the purpose of retaining the combs in position on the blade 4. To one side of the horizontal blade 4 is an elongated vertical plate 6 which projects outwardly from the same surface of the base plate 1 and which also serves to retain the combs in position against lateral movement in a direction parallel to the face of base plate 1.
Although the square vertical plate 5 has been described heretofore as being parallel, or substantially parallel, to the base plate 1, it may actually be slightly inclined toward the base plate 1 as shown in Figure 2. Here, the square plate 5 is shown as being inclined inwardly toward the end of the base plate 1 opposite from the vertical plate 6. This particular arrangement will serve to facilitate the introduction of combs into the space between the blade 4 and the vertical plate 6.
Although the vertical plate 6 is shown in the drawings as being on the right-hand side of the blade 4, it should be understood that this vertical plate might be located on the left-hand side of the blade if such is desired. This may be simply accomplished by rotating the base plate 1 through until the vertical plate 6 lies on the opposite side of the plate 4. Also, if desired, two such vertical plates may be employed, one on each side of the blade 4.
The comb holder of the present invention may be made out of sheet metal, in which case the various elements may be fastened together by soldering, brazing, etc. Also, the comb holder of the present invention might be molded from plastic material, and the same could be formed in a single molding operation.
Other and further modifications of the present invention, apart from those shown or suggested herein, may be made within the spirit and scope of this invention.
What is claimed is: I
1. A comb holder of sheet metal or molded plastic material comprising a substantially fiat vertical base plate, a single, flat horizontal blade secured to said base plate and projecting outwardly therefrom at right angles thereto, said blade being of such thickness as to fit between adjacent teeth of a comb to be supported on said blade, said blade projecting outwardly from said base plate a sufficient distance for supporting thereon at least two combs, a first vertical retaining plate attached to said base plate at right angles thereto and projecting outwardly therefrom on the same side thereof as said blade and being spaced to one side of said blade, and a sec- 0nd vertical retaining plate secured to the outer end of said horizontal blade and having upper and lower portions projecting, respectively, above and below said blade, said second vertical retaining plate being inclined slightly toward said base plate in a direction away from said first vertical retaining plate.
2. A comb holder of sheet metal or molded plastic material comprising a substantially flat vertical base plate, a single, flat horizontal blade secured to said base plate and projecting outwardly therefrom at right angles thereto, said blade being of such thickness as to fit between adjacent teeth of a comb to be supported on said blade, said blade projecting outwardly from said base plate a sufiicient distance for supporting thereon at least 3 two combs, a first vertical retaining plate attached to said base plate at right angles thereto and projecting outwardly therefrom on the same side thereof as said blade ian'd'be'ing vspaced to one side of said blade, and a second vertical retaining plate secured to the outer end 5 of said horizontal blade and having upper and lower portions projecting, respectively, above and below ,said blade.
