Description

- 0Ct. 4 1960 R. R. CARMARDELLA 2954765 ARCHERS ARM Filed Nov. S, 1958 This invention relates to sporting goods and, more particularly, =to archery equipment.
It is -Son1etirnes difiicult, if not impossible, for some individuals to draw the bow string of a bow and retain it in a tansioned firing position for any length of time. Ho'wever, such is ordinarily necessary for target practice and for game hunting in order to secure the proper airn and opportunity to fire upon the target. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an accessory for an archery bow that will enable all persons to withdraw the bow string and secure it in the tensioned position for a substantially long period of time until proper aim is taken.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an accessory for an archery bow that will improve the aim and Will more quickly improve the skill of the archer.
Still another object of vthe present invention is td provide an archery accessory of the type described that can be adjustably mounted upon any desired bow in a simple and convenient maznner.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accornpanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an archery bow made in accordance with the present invention, equipped with an accessory \f the type described in operative use;

Referring now to the drawing, and more particularly to Figures 1 -to 5 thereof, an archery bow assembly 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a main bow 12 having a bow string 14 secured at opposite ends to opposite ends of the bow 12. The positon of the bow illustrated in broken lines in Figure 1 shows the position of the parts with the bow drawn, Whereas the full lines illustrate the advanced position of the parts after firing of the arrow. The mid ortion of the bow 12 defines a band grip 15 all in a conventional manner. However, the accessory made in aocordance With the present inven-tion further includes a pair of substantially rigid rods 16, each of Which is provided with a spring clamp element 18 that is selec- 2,954765 Pa.ienied Oci. 4, 1960 t-ively secured to any one of the longitudinally spaced apart internally threaded bores 22, such as by a screw 20. A resilient sleeve 24 encloses the bow engaging portion of the spring clarnp 18 so as to prevent scratching cf the bow 12 in actual use.
The opposite rear terminal ends of the rigid rods 16 include spherical ball members 26 that are receivable within sockets 28 defined by the halves 30 of a handle assembly when such handle halves are secured together, such as by screws 31. As a result, the spherieal ends 26 of the rigid rods 16 are eifectively loeked in place as a single assembly.
With reference now to Figure 6 of the drawing, a slightly modified form of construction 32 is shown wherein the rear ends of the rigid rods 34 are received within sockets 36 adjacent to the opposite ends of a rigid composite handle member 38, and secured thereto, such as by screws 40.
In actual use, the accessory is clamped to the bow 12 with the spring clamp 18 in a suitable position to provide the proper extent of rearward movernent of the bow string 14. With the clamps in the position shown in the drawing, a minimurn efiort -is required to retract the bow string 14 to the handle portion of the assembly. However, by moving the spring clamps 18 further out to- Ward the adjacent end cf the rigid rods, the amount of pull necessary to retract the draw string 14 to the handle mernber is increased. As a result, this device can be adjusted to accommodate archers of all ages and with varying degrees of skill and experience.
While this invention has been described With particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it it to be understood that such is not to be coustrued as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claims appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An arrow shooter comprising, in combination, a bow having a band grip intermediate the opposite ends thereof, a bow string for driving an arrow secured at opposite ends to said opposite ends of said bow, an arm assembly secured to said bow for securing said bow string in a retracted position with said bow under tension to Support an arrow in a firing position, said arm assembly comprising a pair of rigid rods, clamps se-. cur-ing said rods at one end to said bow each adjacent to an opposite end of said band grip, and a handle secured to the opposite ends of both of said rigid rods, said clamps comprising spring clamps, said one end of each of said rods defining a plurality of longitudinal spaced apart threaded bares, and a screw threadedly securing each one of said clamps in a selected adjusted osition along the length of each said rod.
2. An arrow shooter as set forth in claim 1, wherein said handle comprises a pair of handle halves each defining a spherical socket at each end, and said opposite end of each of said rods defining a spherical portion receivable within communicating sockets of said handle .halves, and screws securing said handle halves together.
