I W mi W WALLACE S. HOLLAND, OF BURLINGTON, YER-MONT.
HANGING FOR WlNDOW-SHADES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 95,396, dated March 18, 1884.
7 Application filed January 7, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALLACE S. Hermann,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Bun lington, in the county of Ghittenden and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Hangings for Inside Nindow'sihades or Window-Blinds, of which the following; is aspecification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to improve the hangings for operating inside Venetian window blinds, shades, or screens; and it consists in the construction of the operating parts, their combination with each other and with such other actuating parts that make the inr provement in operating the blinds.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a face view of a metal bracket. Fig. 2 represents an edge view of the bracket and itsattachments. Fig. 3 represents an end view of the top slat and the metal hanger attached thereto, and Fig. 4: represents the under side of the top slat, showing the mode of attaching the hanger thereto.
A represents the side jamb of a windowframe in edge view, and A the top or transverse jainb.
13 represents a metal bracket, preferably in the form shown in Fig. 1, having screw-holes b b therein, to receive screws 1), that secure the bracket to jarnb A, and at its upper end has two flanges, G, projecting at right angles to the back, and holes 0 a through them to receive the screws 0 c, that hold the flanges to the top jarnb, A, as seen in Fig. 2. At the lower end of brackets Bis a metal pin, cl, projecting inward a proper distance to receive a friction-roller that will freely revolve thereon.
D is a friction-roller, that freely revolves on pin d, and d is ai'washer on pin (Z and inside of roller D, and secured to pin (1 in any known way, to prevent roller 1) from leaving its position on pin (Z.
E is the top slat or the hanging slat of an inside blind or shade to a window or other opening, in which the blind or shade is to osciliate to regulate the openings between the slats of the blind or shade.
F is the metal hanger, inserted in the end of the upper or hanging slat, E, as seen in Figs. 2, 3, and i, having in end view an opening, F, in form of an ellipse, with an arc of a circle, f, above theline of the ellipse, and situated to one side of aperpendicular and center line through the ellipse, the end circles, f and f, terminating at a; as, with a straight baseline, f. To hold the hanger F to the slat E, a flange, F, extends beyond the body of the hanger,'and on the under side of slat E, with a hole, 6, therein, through which hole screw 6 is driven into the slat E, as seen in Figs. 2
and 4. The hangers are constructed in pairs,
E, thereon to give the desired position to the lower slats of the blind or shade that are attached in the usual way to slat E.
The hanger F, having the form of opening seen in Fig. 3, with the arc of a circle, f, rest ing upon the friction-roller D, the upper slat 'Wlll be in or nearly in ahorizontal position,
and if moved so that the friction-roller D is in the end circle, f, the slats in the blind will be partially closed and inclined in one direction; but if the top slat be moved so that the roller D rests in circle f. the opposite side being heavier and longer from the bearing on' the roller, the slats will be closed or overlap each other in a contrary inclination from that when the circlef of the hanger rests on the roller D of bracket B.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
1. The bracket B, having the right-angled flanges G, the projecting pin or axle d, and the roller 1) thereon, constructed to operate as and for the purposes described.
2. The hanger F, having the end opening, F, with arcs of circles f f f, straight base f therein, and flange F",with screwliole etherein, as described.
3. The hanger F, having the opening F, and arcs of circles ff f, straight base f,
and flange F, having; screw-hole e therein, In testimony whereof Iaffixmysignaturein in combination with the top slat, E, of an inpresence of two witnesses.
side window-blind, as and for the purposes described. \VALLAOE S. HOLLAND.
4. The combination of the hanging slat E and hanger F with the bracket B, having frio- Witnesses: tion-roller D thereon, and operating substan- GEO. A. POPE, tially as described. W. E. MARSH.
