. .This invention deals with what vI term center ledge scoops of separable' fastener stringers, wherein each scoop employs a top diamond coupling'side and a bottom bar side. More particularly, the invention deals with scoops of this type and kind, wherein the coupling sides and bar sides have widely spaced opposed surfaces parallel to each other and topther surfaces of the scoop, whereby wu j r n e ..0. faste f t n under consideration can be abruptly and sharply folded transversely; thus providing greater flexibility in the resulting coupled stringers.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, whenv taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments ofthe invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suit-able reference characters in each of the views and, in which:

In Figs. 1 and 2, I have shown at portions of two Patented June as, 1969 V 2 sidej13 has an upper offset surface or ledge 18 which also parallel to the lower surface of the side 13 and to the surface 16. The'ledge surface 18 is extended out; Wardlyor laterally at-its outer end in rib portions 19, thereby providing wider bearing surfaces for the ledges, as will be apparent In referring to the surfaces 16 and 18 as oifsetsurfaces, they are oifset with respect to the center of. the scoops or the parting line of the dies that would mold the scoop, which parting line is substantially centrally with respect to the tape. Thus, in considering Fig. 4, it will appear that, in the normal coupling engagement between the scoops, the surfaces-116 and 18 are widely spaced from each other and this wide spacing facilitates the abrupt transverse folding of coupled ,stringersin the manner which is diagrammatically illustrated in Fig. 5,
regardless of which way the stringer is folded. In full lines in'Fig. 5, the stringer is folded in a manner which wouldbring lower surfaces 20' of the bar side portions 13 in opposed parallel relationship to each other on the scoops 11";'whereas,: in folding the stringer in the opposite direction; the upper edge. surfaces 21 of the female coupling portions 15 of the scoops 11" would be parallel to each other.
It will appear, from a consideration of the drawings, that both the male and female portions 14 and 15 have bevelled wall sides, as indicated at 14 and 15', and these bevelled wall sides are brought into juxtaposition in the second named dotted line position of the stringers, as
diagrammatically illustrated in Fig. 5.
In the full line folded position of the scoops of the stringers, as noted in Fig. 5, it will appear that the rib portions 19, or the corners thereof, are brought into close proximity to the surface 16 of the scoop -11, as shown in said figure. At the same time, the lower adjacent corner portions of the bar sides 13 of scoops 11' are brought into juxtaposition with each other.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that, in anything but the abrupt folding noted in Fig. 5, the various surfaces and corners of scoops of opposed stringers will be spaced apart to varied degrees up to the wide spacing which results when the scoops are in common alinement,
facilitate coupling engagement of the male and female similar stringer tapes with my improved scoops die cast directly upon the. beaded'edges 10 of the tapes. While the scoops employed on each stringer are identical and will be described with single reference characters applied would add nothing to the showing of this figure.
Each scoop has a top diamond coupling plane or side 12 and a bottom plane or side 13. The side 12 includes a diamond male coupling head 14 and a coupling neck or recessed female coupling portion 15, the latter being adapted to receive the heads 14 of scoops of a companion stringer, as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
The head 14 has a lower offset surface 16, which is parallel, or substantially parallel, to the outer surface of the side 12 and centrally of the surface 16 is a reinforcing rib or bead 17. Note, in this connection, Fig. 3. The
coupling portions which couple the stringers against pullapart separation; whereas, the diamond heads 14, overlying the ledges 18, prevent transverse separation of the stringers and the coupling engagement between the male and female coupling portions of the coupling side 12 will maintain alinement of the scoops of the stringers and the clearance between the surfaces 16 and 18 will permit slight vertical movement of one stringer with respect to the other stringer, as viewed in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
It will be understood that the scoops, as shown in the accompanying drawing, are extremely exaggerated as to size for sake of simplification in the showing, but these scoops will be made in the various sizes commonly employed in the production of separable fasteners of the kind under consideration.
By reason of the simplicity in the structure and contour of the scoops, dies for casting scoops of the type and kind under consideration can be produced by the powdered metal formation, thereby materially simplifying production costs of the die and the ultimate end product produced from the dies.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A scoop for separable fastener stringers of the class described, said scoop having top and bottom sides arr nged pon the beaded edge of a stringer tape, the top side having a coupling end portion extending beyond the edge of the tape bead and comprising male and female coupling portions facilitating coupling engagement ofthe scoopsof-cornpanion stringers in retaining the stringers against pull apart separation, the bottom side of the scoop having a portion projecting beyond the tape bead ,less than one-half the distance which the top side of saidfscoop projects beyond. the edge of the tape bead, including laterally projecting upper ledge surfaces in alinement with the female coupling portion of the top side of the scoop, the male coupling portion-of the scoop having a lower surface parallel to and widely spaced from the ledge surfaces with a central longitudinally disposed rib and adapted to overlie the ledge surfaces of scoops of a companion stringer, and the projecting portion of the bottom side of the scoop terminating, at its ends, in laterally projecting substantially vertical ribs increasing the area of said ledge surfaces.
2. A scoop for separable fastener stringers of the class described, said scoop having top and bottom sides arranged upon the beaded edge of a stringer tape, the top side having a coupling end portion extending beyond the edge of the tape bead and comprising male and female coupling portions facilitating coupling engagement of thescoops of companion stringers in retaining the stringers against pull apart separation, the bottom sid of the scoop having a portion projecting beyond the tape bead, including laterally projecting upper ledge surfaces in alinement with the female coupling portion of the top side of the scoop, the male coupling portion of the scoop having a lower surface parallel to and widely spaced from the ledge surfaces. with a central longitudinally disposed rib and adapted'to overlie the ledge surfaces of scoops of a'cornpanion stringer, the projecting portion of the bottom side of the scoop" terminating, at its ends, in laterally projecting substantially vertical ribs increasing the area of said ledge surfaces, and. the outer end surface of said projecting portion of the bottom side being spaced with respect to oppositely disposed corresponding surfaces of scoops of companion stringers when coupled together.
