Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK IWICFADDEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHAFT-TUG FOR HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,052, dated February 5, 1884.
' Application filed November 19, Issa. (no model.)
part of this specification, in which-` Figure 1 is an elevation of tug with my improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective of stirrup,` and Fig. 3 a perspective of roller plate.
My invention has for its object to provide an anti-friction attachment for harnesstugs, which said attachment can be readily applied to tugs of ordinary construction, and which will permit replacement of parts when worn out.
My invention consists of ametallic stirrup adapted and designed to be secured intershaft-opening a of the latter, by rivets b b, or in any other equivalent or suitable manner. The middle or lower portion of the stirrup B is slotted, recessed, or formed with'an opening, b', and above the same is placed a plate, C, having lugs c c, affording bearings for an anti-friction roller, D. Said plate C` is also slotted at d to afford play-space for the roller D, which latter also extends down into the opening or recess in the stirrup B. The shaft or thill of the vehicle, which enters the tug, rides upon the roller D, and the plate C is secured to the stirrup B by rivets c2 c2, or by equivalent means, which will permit its detachment from said stirrup when said plate or roller becomes worn out or otherwise impaired `lugs c c, supporting an anti-friction roller, D,
substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of November, 1883.
PATRICK MCFADDE N.
