United States Patent BRASSIERE POCKET Aileene York, Salem, Oreg.
Application October 7, 1958, Serial No. 765,748
2 Claims. (Cl. 128-513) The present invention generally relates to an article of apparel and more particularly to a brassiere in which is incorporated a pocket on the interior lower surface of the usual breast cup for receiving valuable articles such as jewelry, money or the like.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a pocket in the breast cup of a brassiere which pocket is generally formed by a polygonal member having the major portion of its periphery stitched to or otherwise secured to the inner surface of the breast cup, the upper edge thereof free and being detachably connected to the inner surface of the breast cup by virtue of a separable fastening element such as a snap fastener.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a pocket incorporated into a brassiere which is simple, easy to install, well adapted for its intended purposes and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the brassiere of the present invention illustrating the pocket attached to the interior surface of one of the breast cups;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the interior of the breast cup illustrating the pocket partially opened; and
Figure 3 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 3-3 of Figure 1 illustrating further details of construction of the pocket.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral generally designates a brassiere which includes the usual pair of breast cups 12 having shoulder straps 14 attached thereto along the top edge and a body encircling strap 16 extending rearwardly which strap is provided with the usual separable ends such as indicated by the numeral 18. This part of the brassiere is conventional and may be any of several commercially available types. 'Iheinteriorsurfaceofoneefthebreastcupsnisprovided with a pocket forming panel 20 having the lower edge thereof connected with the finish hem 22 at the lower edge of the cup 12 by stitching 24. The panel isalso secured to the side edges of the cup 12 by stitching 26 and the upper edge of the panel 20 is convexly curved generally conforming to the center rib or seam of the breast cup 12 which is designated by the numeral 28. The upper edge of the panel 20 is partially secured to the breast cup 12 as by stitching 30 with a restricted opening 32 being provided by the uppermost edge of the panel 20.
The uppermost portion or apex of the panel 20 is provided with a snap fastener element such as the female snap fastener element 34 for separable engagement with a male snap fastener element 36 in the breast cup 12 thereby forming a closure for the pocket which is defined by the flexible panel 20 and the lower portion of the breast cup 12. With this construction, valuables such as money, jewelry or the like may be inserted into the breast cup and retained in a safe and secure position thereby eliminating their possible loss. The pocket forming panel 20 may be constructed of any suitable material normally used in brassieres, and the pocket may also be used in strapless brassieres.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. In a brassiere, the combination of a breast cup having upper and lower complemental portions, a panel of flexible material substantially coextensive with and disposed at the inside of the lower portion of said breast cup, and stitching securing all but a small portion of the marginal edge of said panel to the breast cup whereby to provide a pocket therebetween adapted to receive small articles of value, the unstitehed small portion of said marginal edge providing an entrance for said pocket disposed centrally of the upper edge of said panel, said entrance being substantially narrower than the breast cup.
2. The garment as defined in claim 1 together with coacting snap fastener elements provided in said breast cup and on said unstitehed small portion of said marginal edge of said panel to constitute a closure for the entrance of said pocket. 7
