2 Claims. (Cl. -99) My invention relates to new and useful improvements in an infant play pen, and more particularly to a triangularly shaped space-saving play pen.
An object of the present invention is to provide by an arrangement of this character a play pen which will readily fit into a corner in order to save fioor space.
Another object of my invention is to provide in an apparatus of this character a simple construction whereby the sector-shaped play pen may be readily and easily folded into a compact unit for storage.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the play pen in its extended position;
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of my invention similar to Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of my invention in partially collapsed position; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the folded or collapsed triangular shaped play pen.
Referring to the drawings, I show a play pen consisting of a sector shaped body 10. This sector-shaped body 111 comprises a pair of upper horizontally extending back members 11 and 12, a pair of bottom horizontally extending back members 13 and 14, a pair of upper curved front members and 17, and a pair of lower curved front members 16 and 13. When the play pen is in its extended position, the front members 15, 17, 16 and 1 8 when connected together in a manner hereinafter described will comprise a continuous curved sectional front wall. Each of the horizontally extending back members 11 and 12, 13 and 14 are connected together by vertical bars 18. The curved front members 15 and 17, 16 and 18 are likewise connected together by vertical bars 19.
A sector-shaped floor 20 is provided for the body 10 and is hingedly connected as at 21 to the lower horizontally extending back member 14. This floor 20 comprises sections 22 and 23 hingedly connected together by hinges 25 as shown in Fig. 3.
The inner faces of the members 16 and 18 are provided with a floor supporting rail 26 upon which certain peripheral edges of the floor sections 22 and 23 sit when the play pen is in its extended position as seen in Figs. 1 and 2. The floor section 22 is provided on its underside adjacent the bottom back member 14 with support 26' shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. This support 26 will engage the member 14 when the floor section 22 is in its extended position as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 and will cooperate with the rails 26 to so support the floor in such position.
Carried by the horizontally extending lower members 13 and 14 are legs 27 and 28 which suitably support roller casters 29. The lower curved front members 16 2,913,739 Patented Nov. 24, 1959 and 18 have extending in a depending direction therefrom floor engaging skids 30. As seen in Fig. 4, when the play pen is in its collapsed position, the casters 29 cooperate with the skids 31) to support the collapsed play pen in a vertical position. Certain corresponding ends of the members 11, 12, 13 and 14 are diagonally cut as at 31 and are hingedly connected as at 32 as viewed in Fig. 3. Under such a construction, when the members 11, 12, 13 and 14 are extended at right angles with respect to each other, they will form the rear mitered corner for the play pen. The corresponding opposite ends of the members 11, 12, 13 and 14 are hingedly connected to certain ends of the curved front members 15, 16, 17 and 18.
The curved front members 15, 16, 17 and 18 are provided with a means for connecting the same to form a continuously curved front Wall. This means comprises a dowel pin 33 carried by and extending from the curved front members 17 and 18. This dowel pin is positionable in apertures 34 formed in the face of the free end of the curved front members 15 and 16. A suitable latch 35 is carried by the curved front members 17 and 18 for latching the members 15, 16, 1'7 and 18 in extended relation with respect to each other to form a play pen as viewed in Figs. 1 and 2. The floor sections 22 and 23 have one edge of each formed to correspond to the curved front wall of the play pen.
To collapse the play pen from its extended position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 to the position as shown in Fig. 4, the floor sections 22 and 23 are pivoted into the position shown in Fig. 3. The latches 35 are released and the dowel pin 33 is extracted from the apertures 34. The back members 11 and 13 as well as the back members 12 and 14 are pivoted about their hinged connection 32 until they assume a substantially confronting parallel position such as is shown in Fig. 4. The front curved sections are then folded about their hinged connection with the back members into the position shown in Fig. 4 which is the collapsed position of the play pen.
When the play pen is in its extended position as viewed in Figs. 1 and 2, it may be readily disposed to be positioned or located in a corner of a room. Such construction permits a play pen which provides suitable enclosed area, to be used in a room without interfering with a large floor area thereof.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect,
this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. A collapsible infants play pen having a sectorshaped body comprising corresponding corner forming back walls of substantially equal length and an equally sectioned curved front wall, means for hingedly connecting certain ends of said back walls together for permitting said back walls to be folded in longitudinal facial abutment when said play pen is in its collapsed condition. said back walls having said certain ends correspondingly mitered so as to form a right angled corner when said play pen is in extended position, means for hingedly connecting certain opposite ends of said sectioned front wall to an opposite free end of each of said back walls whereby each section of said sectioned front wall is foldable in an opposite direction with respect to each other upon the back wall to which it is hingedly connected when said play pen is in its collapsed condition, means for connect ng the opposite free ends of said sectioned wall, and a latch means for releasably connecting the free ends of said sectioned front wall together.
