This invention relates to display devices, and more particularly to a rack for detachably holding ready-tied bow ties of the type wherein the tie is kept in its knotted and pretied condition and provided with a pair of laterally extending spring clips at the back thereof for clamping the tie to the collar of the user.

One object of this invention is to provide a bow tie rack of the above nature in which a plurality of such ties will be visible at all times, and from which any one of the individual ties may selectively be quickly and easily removed.

Another object is to provide a bow tie rack of the above nature, which may be secured either vertically or horizontally to a wall or a door.

A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install and manipulate, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very ecient and durable in use.

With these and other objects in view, there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing, two forms in which the invention may conveniently be embodied in practice.

Referring now to the drawing, in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 indicates an elongated thin at back member, one end of which is provided With an opening 11 to enable the device to be suspended vertically from a hook, or through which opening a screw may be inserted to attach the device securely to a wall or door.

A pair of inwardly extending ilange portions 12 are secured at each side of the back 10, as by adhesive, or other suitable means, and said anges extend longitudinally from the bottom of the back 10 substantially along its entire length.

-Tn or'de'rto prevent `the"bow tiesTfrom sliding out at the ends of the rack, a pair of end pieces 19 are provided, the central portions of which extend upwardly to lie flush with the tops of the flanges 12 and have laterally extending tongue portions 20 extending into the undercut portions of the anges .12.

Operation When it is desired to place a bow tie 17 in the tie rack, said tie will first be held vertically as shown at the top of Fig. 2, with the clips 16 extending longitudinally of the rack and resting against the back 10. The tie 17 will then be twisted until it is disposed transversely of the length of the rack with the clips 16 securely held below the overhanging portions 15 of the flanges 12, as shown at the bottom of Fig. 2.

In order to remove a bow tie 17 from the rack, it will only be necessary to reverse the process just described.

Second form In the second form of the invention shown in Figs. 6 through 8, the bow tie rack comprises a thin longitudinally extending flat back member 21, to the opposite side edges of which are attached a pair of inwardly extending anges 12a, leaving exposed end portions 22 and 23. The anges 12a are rabbeted at their lower inside corner 13a and rmly engage the side edges of the back 21.

The anges 12a are also undercut at l14a to freely accommodate the spring clips 16 of the bow ties 17 and said anges have overhanging inner edges 15a spaced apart a sucient distance to accommodate the knots 18 of the ties 17, and the ends of said flanges 12a being closed by means of end pieces 19a.

The ends 22 and 23 of the back 21 are provided with openings 24 and 25 respectively, through which fastening means such as nails or screws may be inserted in order to hold the tie rack in a horizontal position (Fig. 6), or in a vertical position (Figs. 7 and 8).

lIt will thus be seen that the rack herein disclosed will hold a large number of bow ties for storage in the home or elsewhere, and whereby each of the individual bow ties will be visible and may be quickly and easily removed from said rack.

While the above described tie rack may be preferably constructed of wood, it will be obvious that other materials such as plastic or metal may be employed, if desired.

While there have been disclosed in this specification, two forms in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that these forms are shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not limited to the specic disclosures, but may be modiied and embodied in various other equivalent forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claim.

Having thus fully described the invention -what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent is:

A rack for bow ties of the ltype having a pre-tied knot and a pair of laterally extending attaching spring prising an elongated at back provided with a `pair `of oppositely disposed, inwardly extending anged portions extending along the sides thereof, said anged portions being undercut to provide inwardly overhanging'portions extending along the center of said back portion, the dis'- tance between said overhanging portions being substantially equal to the width of said knot,| the distance be`- tween said undercut portions being substantiallyequa'l to the distance between the ends of said spring clips, a pair of end pieces being disposed flush with the surface of said anged portions and extending into said undercut portions at each end of said anged portions to prevent accidental removal of said ties from said rack, said anged portions being rabbeted along their lower inside edges `to lie ush with said back and to embrace the sides of said back, said back portion extending beyond both ends of said flanged portions to provide means to support said rack at both ends in a horizontal position.
