Be it known that ll, CHARLES F. C. HAHN, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cot-Beds; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improvement in cot-beds, the object of the same being to provide a bed [of this character which shall be adapted to be folded in a compact body without removing any portion thereof, thereby rendering the accidental loss of any part impossible. A further object is to provide a bed which shall be si mplc inconstruction, of few lparts, light inweight, and which can be produced at a small cost; and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain details oi construction and combinations of parts, as

will behereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of my improved bed in its open position. Fig. 2 isa view thereof in its closed position. The legs or standards A, the cross-braces B, andthe guide-bars C constitute the supporting structures ol' the bed, and are adapted to be folded inthe position shown inv Fig. 3 oi" the dra Tings by means of the hinges T- and U. The lower ends ci the legs A are provided with tenons l), adapted to lit into inortises Q, formed in the cross-braces B, the latter being pivotally secured to the Vlegs at V, and pivotally secured to each other at XV. The upper ends of the legs A are also provided with tenons It, adapted to fit in niortises S, formed in the side rails, F. 'lhese legs are also secured to the side rails by the hinges T and U, which also serve to guide the tenons in their respective mortises when being unfolded. The guide-bars C are pivotally secured at one endto the crossbraces B and at the other end to the legs A, and are adapted, when the bed is being unfolded and set in' position for use, toguide the tenons l? ofthe legs Aiuto the mortises Q. rllhe side rails, F, are divided into two vsections connected by the double' hinges E, te which latter are also secured the legs A of the central supporting structure.

D represents metallic brace-rods, secured to the side rails, F, and. thelower ends of the crossbraces B, and are adapted to guidethesupporting structures in a parallel position with the side rails, F, in the folding ci' thebed, and also to their upright position, as shown in Fig. l.

The head and shoulder rest is composed of the standards H and H, pivotally connected at their upper ends by the cross-bar H2, and pivotally secured at their lower ends to the side rails, F. A metallic barfl, is seeuredto the side rail at K, and iis provided at its other end with a hook which engages with a staple or screw-eye secured to vor with one of. a series of perforations formed in the cross-baril, and thus keeps the head-rest in any position.

The canvas or other fabric, G, is preferably fastened to the lower portion of the side rail,

F, by double-pointed tacks, and to the upper portion of the said side rails by means of button-tacks and eyelets; the edge ot the canvas below the eyelet being re-enforced by a'wire or cord to prevent the eyelet'from tearing out. This canvas from the point L is inclined to the head-rest, where it is seeuredby tacks. `Wlien the bed is folled,the canvas is unbottoned from Athe button-tacks and allowed to rest between the side rails. By inclining lthe' canvas, as above described; -an easy and comfortable shoulder and head rest is afforded.

It will now be-seen that from the construction and arrangement of part-s my improved bed is very easily folded and placed in position. By means of the double hingeE the seetions ofthe side rails are allowed to be turned and placed parallel `with each otherand by means ol' the hinges T and U the supportingstructure is placed parallel with the side rails, the tenons withdrawing from the mortises and allowing the side rails to be drawn closely together, the different parts assuming the pesitions as'shown in Fig. 2. The hook on rod I is adapted to engage with an eye or staple secured to the side rail, and thus hold the bed in its closed position.

Ico y My invention is exceedingly simple in construction, is of few parts, can be rapidly and `easily adjusted, is of light weight, can be manufactured at asmall initial cost, and packed in a small compass for-shipment.

It will be observed that in folding my improved bed no portion thereof is detached, thus preventing the loss or displacement of any of its parts. l

It is evident that many slight changes in the construction and relative arrangement of the parts might be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention; and hence I would have it.understood that I do .not limit Amyself to the exact construction herein shown y and described, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as may' fairly be considered to fall within the spirit and scope of my invention. l

Having fully described my. 4invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
