BY M /QM United States Patent COMBINATION WINDOW BRACKET Gioacchino Pigliavento, Schenectady, N.Y.
Application July 3, 1956, Serial No. 595,725
4 Claims. (Cl. 248-263) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in window brackets and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a single combination fixture of this character which is adapted to support a Venetian blind, a drapery and two curtains.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a combination fixture or bracket of the aforementioned character which may be formed from a single sheet of suitable metal.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination window bracket or fixture of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view in horizontal section through the upper portion of a window frame equipped with a pair of combination brackets embodying the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device; and,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device, showing the Venetian blind, curtain rods, etc. mounted thereon.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a plate 4 of suitable sheet metal. Openings 5 are provided for the passage of nails or screws 6 for securing the bracket in position in the upper portion of a conventional window frame 7. The plate 4 has formed integrally therewith a substantially L- shaped marginal flange 8 for receiving and removably supporting on said plate one end of a conventional Venetian blind housing 9.
The plate 4 further includes a right angularly bent intermediate portion 10 which, in the installation which has been shown, is adapted to overlie and abut the face 11 of the window frame 7. Then, the plate 4 still further includes the laterally offset inner end portion 12 having spaced, parallel longitudinal slots 13 extending thereinto from the free end thereof. The slots 13 define arms 14, 15 and 16 on the end portion 12 of the plate 4.
The upper arm 14 terminates in a rolled free end portion providing a sleeve or bearing 17 in which the usual downturned end portion 18 of a conventional drapery rod or crane 19 is journaled. The arms 15 and 16 are adapted to slidably receive thereon the end portions of a pair of conventional curtain rods 20.
It is thought that the use of the fixture or bracket will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, a pair of the brackets are installed in the upper corner portions of the window frame 7 in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. The Venetian blind housing 9 is inserted between the plates 4 over the lower end 21 of the substantially L-shaped flange 8 and lowered in a manner to rest on the portion 22 of said flange. The end portions 18 of the drapery rods or cranes 19 are then engaged in the sleeves or bearings 17 and the curtain rods 20 are slipped on the arms 15 and 16 in an obvious manner. If desirable or necessary, the brackets may be mounted on the face 11 of the Window frame. Toward this end, the flanges 8 of the plates 4 are provided with openings 23 for the reception of securing elements.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A support bracket for a window opening comprising a unitary sheet metal strip having parallel, laterally oflset fiat, plate-like end portions connected by an intermediate web perpendicular thereto, one end portion having means for securing the same in flat abutting engagement upon the inner vertical surface of a window opening with said intermediate portion lying flat upon an exterior surface of a window opening, one end portion having perpendicular side walls on the inner vertical and the bottom edges thereof and a partial side wall on the lower portion of the outer vertical edge thereof, said side walls constituting a pocket for receiving and retaining one end of a Venetian blind housing therein, the other end portion having three vertically spaced fingers lying in the same vertical plane, the upper finger being inturned upon itself to provide a socket for receiving a drapery crane, the two lower fingers being each flat and unbroken for receiving thereon and supporting the ends of a pair of curtain rods.
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said fingers are defined by horizontal extending notches formed in the free end of said other end portion, said notches terminating a spaced distance from said web.
3. The combination of claim 1 wherein the upper edges as well as the lower edges of said strip lie in one plane with the plane of each in parallel relation.
4. The combination of claim 1 wherein said upper finger is turned inwardly upon itself so that the outer surfaces of said fingers lie in the same plane.
