This invention relates 'to' an improved four-in-hand necktieandholderstherefor;

The primary object of the invention is to provide a more practical and efficient necktie and holder assembly which involves a holder which is selectively securable on a front edge portion of an open-front shirt and has a stud which is extensible through the rear and front drop panels of a four-in-hand necktie, and a decorative knob associated with the stud and bearing retainably against the front side of the front necktie drop panel, whereby the necktie drop panels are accurately and positively held in overlapping relation to each other and to the front edge portions of the shirt, the holder being secured on the front edge portion of the shirt, in front of the overlapping rear edge portion of the shirt, so that contact of the holder with the body of the wearer of the shirt is prevented.

Another object of the invention is to provide, in an assembly of the character indicated above, a necktie having in its front and rear drop panels, preformed studsecuring openings which have grommets secured therein which serve to protect these openings and as spacers for spacing the front and rear panels when grommets are aligned with and in contact with each other, the rear drop panel being provided with a row of such grommeted holes which are individually alignable with the grommeted hole in the front drop panel, to accommodate different adjustments of the necktie.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a-front elevational view showing the panels of a four-in-hand necktie depending from the shirt and a holder of the invention holding the panels of the necktie relative to each other and the shirt front;

Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing the front and rear panels of the necktie displaced relative to the holder;

Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken substantially on line 33 of Figure 1;

Figure 4 is an enlarged exploded perspective view of said holder; and,

Figure 5 is an enlarged exploded perspective view of another form of holder.

Referring in detail to the drawings, an open-front shirt, indicated generally at 10, has a collar 12, and overlapping vertical front : edge portions 14 and 16, which are normally secured in overlapping relation by means of buttons 18 engaged through buttonholes 17.

Circumposed on the collar 12 of the shirt is an intermediate part of a four-in hand necktie, indicated generally at 20, which includes a knot 21, and front and rear drop panels 22 and 24, respectively.

the rear leg 36is' resiliently tensioned toward the. front leg :34; The rear leg '36 'ha's therein alpluralitybf transverse corrugations '40"d'efin'irig a friction gripping surfacefacing the'reansideof the front" leg 345 The front shirt edge portion 16 is grippingly engaged between the legs 34 and 36, with the rear leg 36 disposed between the front and rear edge portions 16 and 14, wherein the rear shirt edge portion 14 prevents contact of the clip 32 with the body of the wearer of the shirt 10.

On the front side of an intermediate part of the front leg 34 of the clip 32 is a suitably secured block 44 on whose forward side is fixed a forwardly projecting threaded stud 46, which is arranged to be inserted forwardly through aligned grommets 28 and 26, as clearly seen in Figure 3.

The threaded end of the stud 46 reaches forwardly beyond the front drop panel 22 of the necktie 10. A knob 50 has a threaded socket 52 which is threadable on the stud 46, so as to compress together the grommets 26 and 28 and retain the front and rear necktie panels 22 and 24 in overlying relation to each other and to the overlapped edge portions 14 and 16 of the shirt 10. The knob 50 is disclosed as a ball element, but can have any desired ornamental configuration including club and lodge emblems, service ribbons, fashion jewelry, etc.

The grommets 26 and 28 may be suitably enameled in various colors compatible with those of the tie, and if desired may be formed of dyed aluminum so as to have a permanent color.

The form of holder shown in Figure 5 comprises a U-shaped clip, indicated generally at 32a, which is similar to that of Figures 3 and 4. Secured on the front side of the front leg 34a thereof is a block 54, which may be of diamond shape, if desired, and which has therein a forwardly opening threaded socket 56. A retaining knob 62 of ornamental form, has thereon a threaded stud 60 arranged to be passed rearwardly through the shirt edge grommets 26 and 28 and threaded into the socket 56 of the block 54.

Thus there has been disclosed a novel tie-clip assembly and four-in-hand tie which fully conform with the objects of the invention heretofore set forth.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Sinee numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, as fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A necktie holder assembly for holding a necktie front and back panel to a shirt front, said assembly comprising a substantially U-shaped clip having confronting front and rear imperforate legs, said front and rear legs having adjoining ends connected by a U-shaped spring biasing bight portion, said front leg having a smooth rear wall adapted to bear flush against the outer surface of a shirt; front and having an opposed front wall, said rear leg engaging the rear surface of a shirt front to pressinglyflat outer face of substantial cross-sectional area relative to a back panel of a necktie, said outer face'being sub-v stantially parallel to the rear wall of the front leg, a stud fixedly attached to the'projection and projecting axially outwardly therefrom, said block having a centrally located axial bore extending therethrough and through the outer face and being of a diameter slightly greater than the diameter of the stud to snugly receive and support said stud, said stud being of a length to extend outwardly beyond the outer face of the block through a back and a front panel of a necktie and having an outer end adapted to extend beyond the front panel of a necktie, an ornamental piece provided on the outer end of the stud and being of a cross-sectional size greater than the crosssectional area of the stud to secure the panels on the stud between the outer face of the block and the ornamental piece, and means, including a screw thread connection, for adjusting the ornamental piece relative to the outer face of the block axially of the stud so as to adjust the clamping pressure applied by the outer face and the ornamental piece on the panels interposed therebetween and disposed on the stud.
