Description
June 30, 1959 M. W. HORACEK HOLY WATER SPRINKLER HOLDER Filed Feb. 7, 1957 Mark W. Horacek IN VEN TOR.
BY MMEM United States Patent HOLY WATER SPRINKLER HOLDER Mark W. Horacek, Alexandria, La.
*Application February 7, 1957, Serial No. 638,841 3 Claims. Cl. 248-313) This invention relates to a special holder for a holy water sprinkler.
An object of the invention is to provide a holder for a holy water sprinkler that has a perforated top wall, the holder having a support in which to accommodate the sprinkler and a cover provided with a flexible wall which automatically contacts and fits flush over the perforated wall of the sprinkler when placed in the holder.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder for a holy water sprinkler, the holder including an arm that is pivotally disposed in juxtaposition to the holy water sprinkler support and carries the flexible wall.
Accordingly, the sprinkler is easily inserted in its support by lifting the arm and placing it on the support. Then, the arm is gravity lowered and/or lowered by the force of a spring thereby providing an effective seal between the flexible wall and the perforated wall of the sprinkler.
The holy water in a holy water sprinkler evaporates quite quickly between uses of the sprinkler. This is due to the construction of most holy water sprinklers. They are made of a handle and a housing at the end of the handle in which the holy water is placed, one wall of the housing usually being formed with a number of perforations through which the holy water is issued in response to shaking the sprinkler. My invention provides a convenient place to store the sprinkler and automatically cover the perforations through which the holy water is issued thereby preventing or at least minimizing loss of holy Water due to evaporation.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a holder which is constructed in accordance with the invention, a typical holy water sprinkler being shown in dotted line;
Figure 2 is an elevational side view of the holder of Figure 1, parts being broken away in section to show internal details;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the 'line 3--3 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a view taken approximately on the line 4--4 of Figure 2 showing principally the cover for the perforated wall of the holy water sprinkler.
In the accompanying drawing there is a holder which is constructed to support a holy water sprinkler 12. Such sprinklers are constructed of a handle 14 having a container 16 at one end, and one wall 18 of the container is perforated so that the holy water may be forcibly issued therefrom when shaking the sprinkler.
Support 30 protrudes from the front face of the mounting plate 20 and is connected by screws or like fasteners. It is cantilevered and has an outwardly opening slot 32 whose walls 34 and 36 are downwardly and inwardly sloped to provide a' cradle within which to support the casing 16 of the sprinkler.
There is a slot 40 in the mounting plate 20 adjacent to the upper end of the mounting plate and the purpose of the slot is to accept tongue 42 at the inner extremity of arm 44. A pivot pin 46 extends through the mounting plate and slot 40 and an aperture in tongue 42, thereby mounting arm 44 so that it is capable of oscillating about the longitudinal axis of pin 46. The slot 48 in arm 44 has bolt 50 passed through it, the head of the bolt being sufliciently large so that the bolt will not pass completely through slot 48. The opposite end of the bolt accommodates a head 52, holding it in a selected, adjusted position inasmuch as bolt 50 is capable of being slid from one end to the other of the slot 48.
In use, the mounting plate 20 is attached to a supporting surface in a location convenient to the pastor or some other person having need or use for an article of this nature. Ann 44 is lifted against the yielding opposition of spring 60, when such a spring is used, and the sprinkler 12 placed on support 30. The sloping side walls 34 and 36 of the support accommodate the lower end of casing 16, the latter nesting therebetween. Inasmuch as the sides 64 and 66 of support 30 have their upper surfaces rising upwardly, the sloping side walls 34 and 36 tend to automatically slide the sprinkler rearwardly of the support, so that it cannot inadvertently slip from the support.
Thereafter the arm 44 is released with the head 52 moving downwardly toward casing 16, head 52 functioning as a cover for the perforated wall 18 of the sprinkler. This wall enters opening 58 and comes to bear against the lower surface of the flexible wall 54 in head 52. A seal is thereby formed between the wall 54 and the perforated wall 18 of the holy water sprinkler materially reducing, if not inhibiting, evaporation of the holy water. In order to separate the holy water sprinkler from support 38, the handle 14 is merely grasped and pulled gently outwardly.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A holder for a. holy water sprinkler that hasa eiasingiin which to accommodatethe holy water, the cas inghaving a perforated wall through which the holy water is adapted tobeejected said-J holder comprising. a mounting plate, a-support protruding from said mountingplateand having an outwardly openingslot in which to accommodate the casingv of the holy water sprinkler, amarm, means mounting said arm on said mounting plate for pivotal movement toward and away from. said support, ahead functioning 'as a cover for the perforated wall. of the sprinkler,, means securing said head to said arm, said head including aflexible wall which is adapted to he brought against the perforated wall of. the sprinkler arm in the opposite direction.
