CHARLES H. QHLY, or s'AnnusKY, ASSIGNOR TO ADAM J. EnEnEEIcmor oBEELIu, OHIO.
TELEPHONE-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 288,183, dated November 6, 1883.
Application filed May 10, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern/a 1 Be it known that I, CHARLES H. OHLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandnsky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, 5 have invented certain new and useful Improv ements in Telephone Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it 11p pertains tomake and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is arepresentation of this invention, and shows a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a detail section taken where the arm is joined to the bracket. This invention has relation to devices for holding the tnbeor trumpet of a telephone ina steady manner; and it consist in the construction and novel arrangement, in connect-ion with a'bracket, of an arm pivoted thereto and carrying spring-holders.
The invention also consists in combining with the bracket and holding-arm a pivot having a threaded extension and tightening-nut, all as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a bracket, and B an arm pivoted o thereto, and carrying a cross-bar, C, which is provided with spring-holders D, in which the tube or trumpet is placed. The bracket is designed to be attached to the wall at theleft side of the telephone-desk and at such a height I that the tube may be conveniently reached by any one using the telephone. The cross-bar (3 may be made adjustable on the arm B, so that the position of the tube can be adj usted to suit "the convenience of the person using the tele- 1 phone. o The pivot-bolt F is'made square at y where it passes through the bracket, and has a threaded extension, h, to which is connected a thumb nut, is, so that the joint canbe tightened at pleasureto hold the arm and tube in any desired positioh. p
I am aware that it is not new to provide a bracket or holder with a pivoted arm carrying spring-clamps for receiving a speaking-tube of telephones, and therefore do not claim such, broadly; but, I Having described this invention, 'what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 15
A holding device for the tube or trumpet of 5 5 a telephone, consisting of the bracket A, the
. arm B, pivoted thereto, and having the adjustable crossbar G, carrying the holding-springs D, the squared bolt F, having the threaded extension h, and the thumb-nut is, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. H. oHLY.
