2 Claims. (Cl. 126-2711) This invention relates to a portable steam bath, and has for its primary object the provision of a steam arrangement which may be readily utilized in conjunction with a normal bath tub or shower stall.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character whereby the user may employ a private steam bath with all the advantages hitherto accomplished by the conventional public steam bath of the Scandinavian countries, customarily termed the sauna, in Finland, for example.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a steam bath attachment which may be readily attached to a conventional electric steam kettle, by slight modifications thereof, whereby the user may enjoy a steam bath in any desired locality.
Still other objects reside in the combination of elements, arrangements of parts and features of construction all as will be pointed out hereinafter and shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein there is shown an illustrative embodiment of the inventive concept.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view, partially in section, of one form of device embodying the instant inventive concept;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the structure of Fig. 1, also partially sectional;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 44 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view of a structural detail.
Similar reference characters refer to the several views of the drawing.
Having reference now to the drawing in detail, there is generally indicated at an electric heating kettle including a body 11, having a separate lower compartment 12 containing a heating coil 13 connected to a plug 14, surrounded by asbestos 15. Plug 14 is adapted to be connected to a cord 16, in turn engaging any suitable source of electric current.
The body 11 is adapted to contain water which, when coil 13 is energized, is volatilized and passes through triangular spout 17 into a tubular vertically extending member 18. Member 18 includes a base plate 19 beneath Patented Apr. 14, 1959 2 which is positioned a rubber gasket 20 which completely surrounds spout 17 and includes horizontal tension springs 21 suitably connected to tube 18 and to handle member 22 of kettle 10. Additional springs 23 extend downwardly at an angle from gasket 20 and engage a stud or clip 24 engageable at the bottom of kettle 10.
The tubular member 18 is provided with an engaging coaxial extension 30, slidable thereon, provided with tiltable nozzle 31, whereby the height of the steam disseminating nozzle may be varied, as well as the angularity of steam dispensed. Nozzle 31 is closed at both ends and is provided with a plurality of steam dispensing ports 32.
A suitable plastic or other covering may be provided for the apparatus and the bather, if desired (not shown), or a conventional shower curtain may be employed for the containment of the steam.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided a portable steam bath which accomplishes all of the objects of the invention and many others of great practical utility and commercial importance; as many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be understood merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Iclaim:
1. In combination, a steam generating assembly comprising a kettle including a forwardly projecting, upwardly opening discharge spout and a handle extending rearwardly from said spout, and a steam bath conversion attachment providing a portable steam bath with said steam generating assembly, said conversion attachment comprising a support base including a portion sealingly engageable over the discharge spout and including an upwardly opening recess conforming to said spout, tension fastening means on said base detachably engaging beneath said kettle and said handle removably retaining said base in sealed relationship over said spout, a rigid extensible tubular member secured at one end normal to said support base and communicating with said recess and said discharge spout, said tubular member including at its other end a transverse discharge nozzle iu cluding plural outlet ports for disseminating steam passing through said tubular member.
2. In the combination of claim 1 in which said support base includes a sealing gasket engageable about said discharge spout.
