flora/0 15. 50/0/25 ZZBYkZZEQ Z A f/orgex United States Patent 2,875,963 DISPENSING CONTAINER FOR FISHING LEADERS Harold B. Collins, Breedsville, Mich.
Application June 30, 1955, Serial No. 519,195 1 Claim. (Cl. 242135) The device of the present invention comprises a container or case especially adapted to be molded out of plastic and is intended to hold one or more spools of material. It will be seen that it isof very simple construction and easy to manufacture yet embodies all the desirable features of a dispenser for this purpose. After the spools have been inserted into the open case and the leader ends have been slipped into the slit in the grip, the cover is put on. This not only makes a neat handy and attractive package, but also keeps the material clean and free from tangling. The dispenser will also float if accidentally dropped in the water, thus making it easy to retrieve in such an event.
panying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and which Fig. l is a circumferential view looking into the open side of the case with the cover removed and showing the spools in position.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevational view with the cover exploded showing the cutter and gripping device, also a transverse section taken on line AA Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial circumferential view showing the open side of a modified construction without the spools but with a piece of material threaded through for clarity.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the modified construction showing the cutter and gripping device.
Referring now to the drawings in detail and first with respect to the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the numeral 1 designates the case itself with the circumferential wall 2 encircling and holding the spools 3 on which the leader material 4 is coiled. A slotted pocket 5 is provided in a thickened portion of the wall 2 for holding the resilient grip 6 which grips the ends of the leader material 4 which is slipped into the open 2,875,963 Patented Mar. 3, 1959 ended slit 7 of the resilient grip 6. Now when you wish to obtain a length of the leader from the dispenser you simply grasp one of the loose ends 4 and pull until you have the length you want then cut it off by passing it under the tongue 8 of the cutter 10 which is fastened in the slot or niche 9 and pulling, thus cutting it by a wedging shearing action. The cover 11 frictionally fits over the open side of the case 1 making it dust and nearly waterproof. A recessed portion 12 between the two bosses acts as a sort of thumb notch to facilitate the grasping of the leader end when it becomes wedged under the cutter after cutting a length of material. Number 13 is the modified form of the resilient grip for holding the ends of the leader material. It grips by clasping the material between the said grip and the lower edge of the slot 5.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art, a more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claim. Having described the invention, what is claimed as new A dispensing container for flexible stranded material in coils comprising a cylindrical casing of molded plastic having an end wall and a removable flanged cover, the side wall of said container having an axially extending slot formed therein and opening to the open end of the container, said wall at said slot being double and forming a recess on each side of the slot and open to the open end of the container, a body of resilient rubber-like material secured in said recess and defining a slit extending to the open end of the recess and registering with the slot in said side wall, and a cutter on the side of said container comprising a tongue having a sharp edge disposed in converging relation to the side of the container.
