1 Claim. (Cl. 155-131) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in babys chairs and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character which is adapted to be readily mounted on a conventional straight chair for providing a high chair for an infant, when desired.

Another very important object of the invention is to provide an infants chair of the aforementioned character which, when it is not in use, may be compactly folded and stored in an out-of-the-way place.

Still another important object of the invention is to provide a foldable infants chair comprising a flexible seat. member which may be quickly removed for laundering and replaced, thus permitting the device to be maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.

Other objects of the invention are to provide an infants chair of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, safe, of light weight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing an infants chair embodying the present invention in position for use on a straight chair;

Figure 2 is a side elevational view, showing the device folded;

Figure 3 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the front portion of the device, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;

Figure 4 is a detail view in cross section through one of the arms, taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 1; and

Figure 5 is a perspective view, showing the means for securing the device to the back of a straight chair.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that reference character 6 designates generally a portion of a conventional straight chair. The straight chair 6 includes the usual seat 7 mounted on legs 8, a back 9 rising from said seat, etc.

The embodiment of the present invention which has been illustrated comprises a vertical frame of suitable wood or other material which is designated generally by reference character 10. The frame 10 includes a pair of upright bars 11 having extending therebetween horizontal upper and lower bars 12 and 13, respectively.

A pair of vertically swingable arms 14 have one end pivotally secured on the uprights 11 of the frame 10 at an intermediate point on said uprights through the medium of hinges 15. Fixed on the free end pcrtions of the arms 14 is a tray 16.

Hingedly secured at 17 beneath the tray 16 is a swing- Patented Mar. 3, 1959 ing leg 18 which, when in operative position, is adapted slot 20 the purpose of which will be presently set forth.

Removably mounted on the arms 14, the frame 10, etc., is a-flexible seat 21 of suitable material. Theseat 21 includes integral side straps or hangers 22 which are wrapped around the arms 14 for suspending said seat therebetween.

As best seen in Figure 4 of the drawing, the free end portions of the hangers or straps 22 are apertured to accommodate bolts 23 which are countersunk in openings 24 provided therefor in the arms 14 and which have threaded thereon wing nuts 25. The seat 21further includes an integral back 26 the free end portion of which is wrapped around the upper bar or member 12 of the frame 10 in substantially the same manner in which the straps or hangers 22 are detachably connected to the arms 14. The flexible seat 21 still further includes a triangular forward end portion 27 integral with and tapering forwardly from said straps and which is terminally inserted through the slot or opening 20 and anchored to the leg 18 by a button or the like 28.

Straps 29 secure the frame 10 to the back 9 of the straight chair 6. Buttons 30 anchor one end of the straps 29 in slots or openings 31 which are provided therefor in the end portions of the cross bar 13 of the frame 10. Mounted on the other end of one of the straps 29 is a snap hook 31. The snap hook 31 is engageable with a ring 32 on one end of a coil spring 33 on the other end of the other strap 29. The straps 29 are carried outwardly, rearwardly and then inwardly behind the straight chair back 9 and said straps are connected with the spring 33 under tension for removably securing the frame 10 in position on the straight chair 6.

It is thought that the use of thedevice will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the chair is unfolded and the frame 10 thereof is placed on the rear portion of the seat 7 immediately adjacent the back 9. The frame 10 is then secured in position on the chair 6 by connecting the straps 29 behind the back 9. With the arms 14 and the tray 16 in a horizontal position, the leg 18 is swung to vertical position and secured by the latch 19, said leg resting on the front portion of the chair seat 7. The device is now ready for use. The occupant of the seat 21 straddles the leg 18 in an obvious manner. As shown to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawing, the hinged end of the leg 18 is engageable beneath the tray structure 16 for positively limiting the swinging movement of said leg toward operative position.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

A foldable infants chair comprising: a vertical frame, means for removably securing said frame on a support, a pair of horizontal arms hingedly mounted for vertical swinging movement on said frame, a tray fixed on said arms, a folding leg hingedly mounted beneath the tray and engageable on the support, said leg having an opening therein at an intermediate point, a flexible seat including side straps integral therewith secured to the arms for suspending said seat therebetween, a back integral =;with.theflexible seat and-suspended from the upper portion 10f sthelframe, said fiexibleseatiincludinglaiorward end portion triangular inshape and integral with and tapering forwardly from said side straps and terminally qinserted :throirgh 'ithe vopening in .:the leg, :and Ya :button on:said forward end :portion engaged with the .;leg for .detachably anchoring -the:seatather.eto.
