PAN 00m. $10,287,425. Patented (m. 30, 1883.
@mi. QM ga sfiggg ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OF I E.
. SELETA O. DOWDELL, OF LA SALLE, TEXAS.
PAN-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 287,425, dated October 30, 1883.
Application filed July12, 1883. (X model.)
To all whom it may concern,
Be it known that I, SELETA G. DOWDELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Salle, in the county of La Salle and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pan-Covers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in pan-covers; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 represents a side View. Fig. 2 is a detailed section, and Fig. 3 a top View.
Referring by letter to the accompanying 2o drawings, A designates the cover, consisting of an upper section, a, and a lower section, b, which are connected to one another by soldering; or rivets may be employed for this purpose. The lower section, b, is flaring down- 2 5 wardly and outwardly, and provided with the outward flange, 0, while the wall (1 of the upper section, a, is vertical and transversely perforated, as at e, and is provided with a flange,
f, at its upper portion.
persection, a, are arranged transverse bars g g, that are secured thereto and cross one another at their center. Between the walls of the upper and lower sections of the cover is secured by its flange h, on its periphery, a wire-gauze, 3 5 i, that separates the cover into two compartments, jj. The lower compartment is designed 011 the top of the upto cover a pan or vessel, while the upper portion section serves as a support for the pan above. Any number of pans may be used, and between each a cover is placed. 0
It will be observed that by my construction of the cover the lower section, being outwardly flaring, is capable of attachment to different size pans, and the bars 9 g serve to strengthen the cover and assist in supporting the upper pan, while the perforations e admit a current of air through the cover, thus serving to keep the contents of the pan cool. The wire-gauze aforesaid is designed to prevent flies, insects, &c., from getting into the pan, and to a great measure prevents dust from doing likewise, and they may be constructed any size desirable, and at the same time are durable and cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters .Pat: ent, is I A pancover consisting of a lower outwardly-flaring section, having the flange 0, and an upper section provided with the perforations e, and having the top flange, f, and cross-bars 'g g, and provided with the wire-gauze 2', secured by its marginal flange h between the walls of the sections a b, the whole as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth. 65
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SELETA C. DOVVDELL.
