Description

0. M. PETRE Sept. 30, 1958 TENT Filed Oct. 21. 1954 United States Patent TENT Oscar Malte Petr, Stockholm, Sweden, assignor of onehalf to B0 Arne Lagerkvist, Bromma, Sweden Application October 21, 1954, Serial No. 463,675
1 Claim. (Cl. 135-3) This invention relates to tents, and an object of the invention is to provide a tent that can be pitched independently of the ground and securing means such as tent pegs or the like.
According to the invention this is achieved in that the tent in each of the substantially vertical corner edges is provided with rods which are spaced solely by means of bars which are detachably fastened between adjacent rods and at a point intermediate their ends. The length of each bar corresponds to the distance required to provide a stretched condition of the tent cloth.
The invention is explained in detail in connection with the attached drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 shows schematically in side view a four-sided tent according to the invention with the tent cloth shown dot-dash lines, and Fig. 2 is the tent in plan-view.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a section of Fig. 1 taken along line IIIIII.
In accordance with the invention the tent, the tent cloth 1, which is indicated with dot-dash lines, is at each of the substantially vertical comer-edges 2 provided with rods 3 inserted in pockets arranged therefor. At these edges 2 on said rods 3 attachment means 4 are provided at a point intermediate their ends for the arrangement of stretching bars 5 which lie parallel to the adjacent side of the tent cloth and the length of which corresponds to the distance between adjacent rods in the stretched condition of the tent cloth 1. By placing the attachment means 4 at a suitable point between the ends of the rods 3 the tent cloth will be held in stretched condition only by means of the stretching bars 5 so that the need for tent-pegs, tent-poles or the like is completely avoided.

2 Apart from the fact that the tent can be pitched independently from the ground it is also achieved that the tent is much simpler to pitch than ordinary tents.
For facilitating the packing together of the tent the bar 5 and possibly also the rods 3 may suitably be made in two parts, which are connected to each other by means of a sleeve-connection 6 known per se.
In the drawing, 7 denotes a tent opening and 8 a ventilation opening.
The invention is not limited to the described embodiment but may be varied within the scope of the invention. Thus, for instance, the invention can be used with the same advantages for three-, fiveand six-sided tents.
Having now particularly described the nature of my invention and the manner of its operation what I claim A tent comprising a plurality of trapezoidally shaped cloth sides joined at their edges in elongated pockets and having top and bottom edges, said pockets corresponding to the side corner edges of the tent, a polygonal cloth top section having a number of side edges equal to the number of said cloth sides and joined thereto to define top corner edges of the tent, a plurality of independent reinforcing rods equal in number to the number of elongated pockets and adapted to be fit therein to render the side corner edges rigid, a plurality of support bars corresponding in number to the number of said cloth sides, and means to fasten said support bars detachably to said reinforcing rods intermediate the ends of said rods and substantially spaced from said ends, said rods being spaced by said bars so that said reinforcing rods are braced to stretch the top and bottom edges of said sides, the effective lengths of said support bars exceeding the corresponding widths of said cloth sides for the stretching of the same in the erected condition of the tent, said pockets restricting the outward movement of said rods so that with the cooperation of said bars a rigid framework is provided for said tent.
