TROUSER HANGER Filed Feb. 1, 1957 [6 wk g 6 INVENTOR. VJID/ME Jflgyz a o QQ NW United States Patent C TROUSER HANGER Vladimir Jagr, White Plains, N. Y.
Application February 1, 1957, Serial No. 637,7 57
1 Claim. (Cl. 223-95) This invention relates to garment hangers and more particularly to a hanger for suspending trousers by the cuifs.
While various types of trouser hangers have been provided, many of these devices leave creases or press marks on the trousers, legs or cuffs, thereby detracting from their appearance.
An object of this invention therefore is to provide a pants hanger that is simple in construction, efficient in operation, and which engages the inside of the trouser leg so as not to leave any undesirable creases or press marks thereon.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a trouser hanger that will fit on the inside of the cuff of any pair of trousers and which may be made of spring steel and plastic in various color combinations and which is inexpensive to manufacture.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and is shown in operative association with a single trouser leg 157 This hanger is shown to include a pair of similar main body portions 10 that are arranged in side by side relationship but facing in opposite directions. Each of these body portions is provided with a substantially centrally disposed longitudinal slot 12. One end of each portion 10 is provided with a transversely extending rivet or bearing member 14 that is adapted to slidably engage within the slot 12 of the adjacent main body portion. Thus, the pair of main body portions 10 are secured together for relative longitudinal movement with respect to each other. The outer, free end 16 of each main body portion 10 is provided with a series of serrations 2,843,298 Patented July 15, 1958 2 that are adapted to frictionally engage the inside surface portion adjacent to the crease line of a single trouser leg.
A combination spring and support device 20, in the form of a bow spring, is provided with a centrally disposed spring loop 22 and a fastening loop 19 at each end. One fastening loop 19 of the spring device is received within an opening 18 in one of the main body portions 10. The bow spring 20 is biased in. a direction normally urging the main body portions 10 apart in a longitudinal direction, whereby the serrated ends 16 frictionally and securely support the associated trouser leg. A hanger bracket 25 having a V-shaped recess 26 is used to support the pair of hangers from any stationary object, to which the semi-circular loop 28 may be secured. It will be noted, that a separate hanger is used for each leg of the trouser so that a pair of such hangers is required to suspend a single pair of pants.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
Apparatus for supporting a pair of trousers comprising, in combination, an independent hanger member adapted to be positioned one in each leg of said trousers, said hanger member comprising a pair of main body portions arranged in side by side relationship and each having a serrated end facing in an opposite outward direc tion, each of said main body portions having a centrally located longitudinal slot and an upwardly extending tab portion, a fastening member secured to each one of said main body portions in slidable engagement with the longitudinal slot of the other of said main body portions, spring means urging each of said main body portions apart in opposite directions, the serrated portion of each of said main body portions adapted to engage within one side of the trouser leg under the action of said spring means, said spring means including a bow spring having a centrally disposed loop and a fastening loop at each end, each one of said fastening loops being secured to the upwardly extending tab portion of a different one of said main body portions above the level of said fastening means, said centrally disposed loop being adapted to hang from a hanger bracket, said hanger bracket including a V-shaped recess for receiving said centrally disposed loop, and an arcuate portion adapted to be suspended from a stationary support.
