Description
July 15, 1958 L, zAKlN wADING PooLs Filed April e. 1955 ATTORNEY WADING POOLS Lester Zakin, Monsey, N. Y., assignor to The Holiday Line, Inc., New York, N. Y.
Application April 6, 1955, Serial No. 499,606
4 Claims. (Cl. 4-172) This invention relates to wading pools and more particularly to the supporting structure for wading pools.
lt is a prime object of the invention to provide an improved wading pool support structure which is economical to manufacture, sturdy in structure and which may be utilized with circular or rectangular wading pools.
It is a further object of the invention to provide an improved support structure for wading pools which may readily be assembled and disassembled with a minimum expenditure of time and elort and without the use of tools.
Other objects and -advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a reading of the following specification, having reference to the drawing, wherein:
Fig. l is a view in projection of a circular pool embodying the support structure of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 2-2 of Figure l.
Fig. 3 is an alternate sectional view of the support structure and a bumper having its center line over the support structure.
Fig. 4 is an alternate sectional view of the support structure and a bumper having its center line olf the support structure.
Figure 5 is a side view of a portion of the support structure along the line 5-5 of Figure l.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken along the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Fig. 7 is a view of the support structure in collapsed form.
Fig. 8 is a sectional side view showing a catch for securing the pool structure to the support structure.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a plurality of substantially similar panel members lil, formed of any desired height as may be required for a special pool structure, and of suitable width dependent upon the circumference or perimeter of the pool to be utilized with the support structure.
Each panel is preferably formed with a ribbing 12 around its peripheral edge and with a second coaxial ribbing 14. The aforesaid ribbing is for purposes of increasing the strength of the panel and it is obvious that other strengthening means could likewise be utilized as could heavier gauges of material. A plurality of apertures 16 are disposed in spaced apart relation at the approximate longitudinal extremities of each panel 10. These apertures cooperate with apertures in adjacent panels and are retained in position with respect to adjacent panels by means of an elliptical hinge member 18.
ln extended position, the structure of a plurality of panels lil hinged by means of the hinge members 18 may be formed in a predetermined shape to support a particular pool.
The illustrative embodiment of Figure l has reference to a circular pool, it being obvious that the circular pool provides a greater seating area for occupants utilizing L nited- States Patent ICC the pool, and through use of an inflated bumper 20, decreases the danger of injury from the pool edges.
When filled, the Vpool retains its position with respect to the support structure because of the Water pressure against the side walls and bottom walls designated by reference numerals 22 and 24 respectively.
It may readily be seen that because of the action of the water pressure upon the bottom and side walls, the bumper on the pool may rest upon the top of the Support structure or may be displaced olf the center line thereof, as illustrated in Figures 3 and 4.
l have further chosen to make the panel members with rounded edges 10a, 10b, 10c and 10d, thus avoiding the possibility of pointed edges puncturing the pool.
Figure 4 illustrates a sectional -alternate embodiment of a pool having a bumper 20a which is provided with a tab 30 and wherein panel 11 is provided with a male element of a twist-snap 32. Twist-snap element 32 is adapted to cooperate with a female element 34 and tab 30.
In use, the pool may be collapsed by removing the water or liquid from within the pool and then folding the support structure as illustrated in Figure 7.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious to those reading the specification that changes may be effected without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and l therefore desire that the appended claims be given as broad an interpretation as is consistent with the disclosure made herein.
What is claimed is:
l. A wading pool comprising a plurality of vertical support members, each of said vertical support members including a plurality of apertures proximate each of their longitudinal peripheral borders and link members passing through corresponding apertures in adjacent support members on each of their longitudinal peripheral borders, and a pool comprising a bottom member, a side member and an inllated upper bumper, said inflated upper bumper resting on the upper periphery of said vertical support member.
2. A wading pool comprising a plurality of vertical support members, each of said vertical support members including a plurality of apertures proximate each of their longitudinal peripheral borders and elliptical link members passing through corresponding apertures in adjacent support members on each of their longitudinal peripheral borders and a ribbing extending around the peripheral edge of each of said support members, and a pool comprising a bottom member, a side member and an inflated upper bumper, said inllated upper bumper resting on the upper periphery of said vertical support member.
3. A wading pool comprising a plurality of vertical support members, each of said vertical support members including a plurality of apertures proximate each of their longitudinal peripheral borders and elliptical link members passing through corresponding apertures in adjacent support members on each of their longitudinal peripheral borders and a ribbing extending around the peripheral edge of each of said support members, and a pool comprising a bottom member, a side member and an inflated upper bumper, said inflated upper bumper resting on the upper periphery of said vertical support member and means for securing said pool to said vertical support members.
4. A wading pool comprising a plurality of vertical support members, each of said vertical support members including a plurality of apertures proximate each of their longitudinal peripheral borders and link members passing through corresponding apertures in adjacent support members on each of their longitudinal peripheral borders, and a pool comprising a bottom member, a side member and an inflated upper bumper, said inflated upper bumper resting on the upper periphery of said vertical support member and means for securing said pool to said vertical support members.
