  • the device is ready for reconditioning and refilling of the magazine 26. All that need be done for those purposes is to unlock the lock 72 whereupon the cover 70 may be detached. Then the coin receiver 38 is swung outwardly to unload the pennies therein, and is then swung back to its receiving position against foot 37. The rider 78 is removed from magazine 20 and the elements automatically return to their original positions shown in Fig. 4; magazine 20 is recharged with a stock of confections 17 and rider 78 is placed on top of the stack. The cover 70 is put on and locked to channel 10 and the device is again ready for operation.

21 Claims. (Cl. I'M-57) This invention relates to novel devices and is directed to novel dispensing devices. In one of its more particular aspects the invention is directed to novel coin controlled devices for dispensing units of confections or the like.
The main purposeof this invention is to provide a coin controlled dispenser for units of confections or the like which may be readily manufactured at a comparatively low cost, is of rugged construction and therefore will with stand the normal abuse to which such devices are sub jectcd by children, has but few moving parts, is positive in the action of its moving parts, is foolproof in its operation and will lock out coins after the last unit of confection has been discharged therefrom.
The foregoing features as well as other objects and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the appended drawings, wherein:

As shown in the drawings, the device comprises an elongated relatively narrow channel or generally U-shaped supporting member composed of rigid sheet metal or the like and consisting of a back lit integral with a pair of parallel sides l2 and lid. The back lll has a pair of inverted keyhole slots 15 and Ft therein with one slot located at one end and the other at the other end thereof and adapted to receive and accommodate supporting bolts (not shown) for removably maintaining the device in upright position. Disposed in said elongated channel ll) is an elongated magazine 243 for carrying a charge of units to be dispensed. The magazine 20 may be in the form of an elongated rectangular tube whose upper end is open to receive a stack of confections 17. The dimensions of the magazine 26 correspond roughly to the transverse dimensions ofthe confections E7. The hollow rectangular tube 29 has a slot 21 in the front face thereof extending almost the entire length thereof. The width of the slot 21 is materially less than the corresponding dimension of the confections 17 arranged in flat stacked relationship in the magazine 26 The extreme lower end of the face of the magazine 24? has a slot 11% extending across the entire width thereof and communicating with the slot 21. The height of the slot 13 is less than twice the thickness of the individual confections it? to be dispensed, but is somewhat greater than that dimension of said individual confection. The lower end of the tube 29 has a confection supporting flange 2:2 extending inwardly only part way to cover only partially and only about one-half of the exit end of tube 28. Said flange 22 has a pair of spaced slots 23 and 24 therein and extending from the rear thereof and through thefro-nt edge thereof. The slots 23.3 and 24 communicate with a pair of short upwardly extending slots located at the lower end of the rear wall of magazine 2%. These upwardly extending slots together with slots 23 and 2d serve to receive a pair of confection pushers or ejecting fingers 33. The fingers or ejectors 33 are spaced from each other and are welded or in any other manner secured to the back These lingers are normally located outside of the slots 23 and as shown in Pig. 3 and are in alignment with said slots. A leaf spring member 30, having a pair of legs, is welded or in any other manner secured to the rear of the upper part of magazine 29. The free ends of the legs of the spring member 39 rest and bear against the inside face of the back 11. The upper end of the magazine 23% has a slot therein at the upper end of the rear thereof accommodating a hook 32 secured to and depending from back 11 for pivotally r swingably supporting the magazine 24) and about which the magazine in may be swung back and forth against the action of the spring within the confines of the device. The spring 3% acts in such a manner as to normally tend to maintain the magazine 21) in its incline position shown in Fig. 3.
Fixedly secured to the side 13 of the channel support through a flange is a confection guide chute 36. The chute 36 is disposed at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the channel iii and terminates at its lower end in the form of a foot or stop 37 depending therefrom. The upper end of one side of the chute 36 extends upwardly above the mouth thereof to provide a guide face 34 always disposed just to one side of the lower part of magazine Ztl. The incline face of the chute 36 has integral therewith an L-shaped guide 31 for initially receiving the confection l7 and permitting confection 17 to fall through chute 3-5. Pivotally mounted on the sides 12 and 13 of channel iii is a coin collector or receiver 38 having an open upper mouth and is normally maintained in upright position with a side thereof bearing against the stop or foot 37.
A coin control and actuator mechanism 40 is also located in the supporting channel it) and is disposed alongside of the magazine 2d. The coin control mechanism comprises an elongated rear plate 41 having a flange 42 integral therewith and extending along the entire length,
of the front edge thereof. The flange 42 has a coin receiving slot 43 through the thickness thereof. and guide plate 44 whose thickness is just slightly greater than the corresponding dimension of the coin to be re ceived through the slot 43 is disposed flatwise on rear plate 41; and front guide plate 45 is in like manner located on plate 44-. The plate 44- has an outwardly eX tending operating finger 5t) extending outwardly therefrom and through a slot in the flange 42. This sandwich-type assembly is secured together by rivets or other convenient means. The midlate 44 is narrower than either plate 41 or 45 so that a coin may roll downwardly along its edge. The lower extremity of the plate 44 is of inwardly extending shallow arcuate design forming a pocket to accommodate a portion of the circumference of a coin as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. The plate 4 extends considerably above the upper limit of plate 45. The plate 45 extends below the lower extremity of the mid-plate 44 and its lower edge is inclined downwardly forwardly to provide an incline edge as, meeting a shallow shoulder 47 in turn meeting another incline edge 43 parallel to edge &6. The plate 41 terminates in an elongated depending member or tail l9 and has an incline slot for accommodating a locking and coin rest incline flange or cam 51 secured to the side wall or" the magazine 2%. Tail 49 carries a vertically extending flanged member 52 at the lower end thereof for acting as a guide for the coin in its travel out of assembly 4i) to the coin receiving box 38. Mounted on tail 49 is a plate whose upper end is bent to provide a channel 55 disposed at an incline towards the flange 51. Integral with the plate 4-1 and extending along most of the entire length thereof and terminating at the lower end of tail 49 is a retainer guide flange 53 disposed between back 11 and a guide strip 5'7 permanently attached and spaced from back Jill.
Pivotally mounted on the upper end of the plate 41 is a pawl-like member 57 having an engaging finger 58 extending outwardly therefrom. One end of a tension coil spring 5) is secured to the pawl member 57 and its other end is secured to side wall 12 of the channel support lit. Fixedly secured to the back plate 11 of channel 10 is a stationary ratchet or toothed member 66) adapted to cooperate with finger 58 for locking purposes.
The novel device also includes a demountable boxcover 70, the lower end of which has an opening 71 through which the confections 17 may be discharged. Secured to the lower end of cover "it? is a reinforcing A spacer member 62 having an incline plate 63 for guiding the confection 17. The upper end of cover 70 carries a lock 72 adapted to engage and disengage an angle member 73 secured by welding to the side wall 12 of channel 10. The cover 7 i) is mounted on the channel iii and lock 72 is actuated to lock the cover 76 to channel 10. in this manner cover 70 is locked to channel It and may not be uncoupled without first actuating the lock 72 with its key; and in this locked combination the coin slot 43 of assembly ia' is in registry with a corresponding slot 75 in cover 7% and the lever 56 islocated at the upper end of elongated slot 76 in the front face of cover 76 and the parts are in the relative positions shown in Figs. l4; and the magazine 20 carries a stack of confections such as chewing gum units 17 on top of which is disposed a rider or lock engager 78. The rider 78 is a U-shaped member having an opening through its cross piece.
The operation of the device is as follows: However, u: no coin is inserted and finger is pushed downwardly coin controller 44) is moved downward only small disstance and no further because the cam 51 merely becomes located on incline 4S and may bcar against shoulder 47 to prevent actuation of the magazine; a coin, such as a penny, is inserted through the slots "75 and 43 which are in registry with each other and are of such dimensions as to just fully admit insertion of the penny. Upon insertion of the penny, it falls along the edge of element 44 and between elements 41 and 45 passes into and along channel v and comes to rest on the incline 51 as shown in Fig. 4. At rest, the penny on incline 51 also rests against flange 42 and is located between the plates 41 and 45 at the lower end thereof. Then the person who inserted the penny depresses the actuator 5i from its upper limit in slot '76 as shown in Fig. 4 to its lowermost limits as shown in Fig. 7. in the course of that movement, the entire assembly 4t) together with its depending parts moves down wardly in response to downward pressure on element One of the first actions which occurs in the course of that movement is to move the arcuate penny receiving portion or pocket of element 44 against the periphery of the penny and then upon continued lowered movement of assembly 40 against action of spring 59, the downward force on the penny bearing against stop or cam 51 forces the magazine 20 to swing rearwardly against the action of spring 30 and about the pivot book 32. As the assembly moves downwardly to the position shown in Pig. 5, the magazine 20 has swung back rearwardly with the cam 51 located in channel 55, with the penny just about to pass the lower end of cam 51, and the lower end of magazine 2'15 having been swung against the ejector fingers 33 which passed through the slots 23 and 24 in the end of the magazine to bear against the lowermost confection 17 and force it out of the slot 18. At this position, the pawl 58 engages one of the teeth of the ratchet so that even if the pres sure applied to actuator 50 is released, the actuator 50 and assembly 40 will not return to their original position. Upon continued depression of finger 5d, the assembly 40 is still further lowered against the action of spring 30, the cam 51 is moved still further rearwardly in channel 55 to swing the magazine 20 still further rearwardly whereupon the lowermost confection unit only is pushed against fingers 33 and drops through the slot 18 and opening at the lower end of magazine 20 and the penny drops into the coin receiver 38 as shown in Fig. 6; and, at this stage the last tooth of the ratchet 60 is engaged by pawl finger 58 for the same purposes as before. The confection unit 17 which is discharged from the magazine 20 falls through chute 36 and alongside of a wall of coin collector 38 and slides along the incline 63 and out of the discharge opening 71 in the cover 76. Upon still further depression of the actuator 50 to the end of slot 76 the camming action of the incline slots acts against cam 51 to swing the lower part of magazine 20 still further rearwardly whereupon the pawl finger 58 becomes disengaged from the ratchet 60, and upon release of the actuator 50 all the parts autom'atically return to their original relative positions as shown in Fig. 4 due to the action of the springs and 59.
Upon the initial depression of the actuator 50 to the position shown in Fig. 5 and even before the penny has passed completely by the cam 51, the openings 43 and 75 are out of registry so that another penny may not pass through until after a complete cycle of the operation has taken place because of the latching by the pawl finger 58.
The aforedescribed cycle of operation may take place until all of the individual confections have been discharged only one at a time for each penny insert. in the course of discharge of the last unit 17, the fingers 33 are located below the opening in the locking rider 78 which automatically drops over said fingers 33 to lock magazine 20 in its extreme rear position and the assembly in its lowermost position whereby the coin slot 75 in cover 79 is completely blocked off by flange 42 so that no coin may be inserted. Even applying upward pressure to finger 50 will not unlock the parts.
At this stage the device is ready for reconditioning and refilling of the magazine 26. All that need be done for those purposes is to unlock the lock 72 whereupon the cover 70 may be detached. Then the coin receiver 38 is swung outwardly to unload the pennies therein, and is then swung back to its receiving position against foot 37. The rider 78 is removed from magazine 20 and the elements automatically return to their original positions shown in Fig. 4; magazine 20 is recharged with a stock of confections 17 and rider 78 is placed on top of the stack. The cover 70 is put on and locked to channel 10 and the device is again ready for operation.
Referring to Fig. 15, there are disclosed certain modifications of the dispenser heretofore described and illustrated in Figs. l-14. A modification of the coin control actuator 40 is shown therein and is referred to as 140.
The coin control mechanism 140 is the same as mechanism 40 except that it 40 is so modified that the intermediate guide plate is pivotally mounted with respect to the rear and front guide plates 41 and respectively. In this embodiment, the front and rear plates 41 and 45 are rigidly secured together and spaced from each other with the spacer and guide plate located therebetween and pivotally secured to plates 41 and 45 at up upper end through a pivot pin 142 which extends beyond the outer face thereof. A pin 143 is secured to the lower part of said plate 45 and extends beyond the outer face thereof. Between pins 142 and 143, the plate 45 has a cut out 145 through which extends a pin 147 carried by theintermediate plate 44. The lower end of plate 45 is cut out to provide a shoulder piece 148 adapted to rest against stop 149 located between plates 41 and 45. A spring 150 has one end secured to the pin 147 passing around the upper part of pivot pin 142 and its lower end bearing against pin 143. This spring element 156 acts normally to maintain the intermediate plate 44 so that its shoulder piece 143 i maintained against stop 149 so that the finger lever is in its outermost position.
Other modifications are chute 136 having a central slot 137 in the incline and lower part thereof and a guide plate 138 pivotally mounted between the ejectors 33. The width of the slot 137 is less than the width of the individual confections 17.
Still another modification is the permanent hinging of the cover to the element 10 by the hinge 161 secured to the lower part of cover 70 and the back E1. in this embodiment a bar may be pivoted at one end to the lower end of a side element It and its other end passes through a stop strap on the cover 70 to limit the degree swinging of cover '70.
This modified embodiment of the invention has a number of advantages over the construction shown in Figs. 1-l4. Again referring to Fig. 15, a coin, such as a penny, may be inserted through the slots and 43 which normally are in registry with each other. Upon insertion of the penny it falls along the edge of the element 44 and between the elements 41 and 45, passes into and along the channel 55 and comes to rest on the incline as shown in Fig. 17. Then the actuator lever 59 is pushed down from its upper limit in slot 76 to its lowermost limit as shown in Fig. 20. In the course of that movement, the entire assembly together with its depending parts moves downwardly in response to the downward fingerpressure on element 50. One of the first actions which occurs in the course of that movement is to move the stop 14) against the periphery of the penny as shown in Fig. 19, and then upon continued downward movement of assembly 14s, against the action of spring 59, the downward force of the penny on cam 51 forces the magazineto swing rearwardly against the action of spring 30 and about pivot hook 32. As the assembly moves downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 20, a single confection has been ejected from the magazine and the normally depending finger 133 has been swung upwardly to operative position in the slot 137 of the chute to hold the single confection in the chute until after the assembly has moved upwardly. In the event the person operating the machine continues downward pressure on element 54? after the assembly has reached the position shown in Fig. 20, the assembly 140 cannot be moved downwardly further, but the pivoted element 44 will merely swing back" ward and the element 50 will move inwardly so that the finger will slip off the end of element 50. With this construction, the danger of jamming or breakage of parts is obviated when operators after inserting a penny tend to push downwardly with a great deal of continued force due to the swinging inwardly of the element St} and the consequent slipping ofi" of the finger.
Still another great advantage of such construction is that if no coin is inserted into the device, and pressure is applied to element till, the assembly will move down but a very short distance to be stopped by stop 51 and upon continued pressure upon 59, the element dd will swing inwardly against the action of spring 15%) whereupon the element 50 recedes and the finger slips off.
Such modifications over the construction shown in Figs. 1-14 make the dispenser more rugged and more tamper proof.
Since certain changes may be made in the above construction and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
This application is a continuation-in-part of my copending application Serial No. 326,646 filed Dec. 18, 1952, now abandoned.
I claim:
1. A dispenser comprising a coin receiver housing, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being swingably supported in said housing, resilient means located between said housing and said magazine and normally tending to maintain s. magazine in one position, said magazine being slotteu its lower end, ejector means carried by said housii adapted to pass into the slotted end of said when the magazine is swung against the action of s resilient means, coin guiding means in said housing a movable up and down in said housing,'said coin guidin means located in a space between a side of said maga and a side of said housing resilient means tending to maintain said coin guiding means in its upp r posi ill, a coin collector in said housing and below said coin guide,
a coin stop in said housing, said stop secured to said magazine and extendin outwardly therefrom, magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move the slotted end thereof across said ejector means in response to displacement of coin 7 stop upon movement of said coin guiding means against a coin on said coin stop.
2. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units to be dispensed, said magazine being swingably supported in said housing, resilient means located in said housing and normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine being slotted at its lower end, ejector means carried by said housing and adapted to pass into the slotted end d r Ll-- zine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means, a coin receiving and guiding means located in said housing and being movable up and down, said coin guiding means located in a space between a side of said magazine and a side of said housing, a coin p in said housing, said coin stop secured to said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, said coin receiving and guiding means when in one position adapted to receive a coin inserted into said housing through said coin receiving opening therein and to guide it to said coin stop on which it initially rests, actuable means connected to said coin receiving and guiding means for actuating said coin receiving and guiding means, said coin stop being in the path of movement of said coin receiving and guiding means in one direction to limit the movement of said coin receiving and guiding means in the absence of a coin on said stop, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move the slotted end thereof against said ejector means in response to the displacement of said coin stop upon movement of said coin receiving and guiding means in the course of its course of travel when a coin is on said stop and said coin receiving and guiding means is forced against said coin on said stop.
3. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units to be dispensed, said magazine being swingably supported in said housing, resilient means in said housing normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, the lower end of said magazine being slotted, ejector means in said housing adapted to pass into the slotted end of said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means, a coin receiving and guiding means in said housiug'and movable up and down, said coin guiding means located in a space between a side of said magazine and a side of said housing, a coin stop in said housing, said coin stop secured to said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, said coin receiving and guiding means when in one position adapted to receive a coin inserted through the coin opening to guide said coin to said coin stop, resilient means in said housing tending to maintain said coin receiving and guiding means in one position, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move the slotted end thereof across said ejector means in response to displacement of said coin stop upon movementcf said coin guiding means against a coin on said coin stop, and means for preventing return of said coin receiving and guiding means to its original position until after said magazine has been swung a predetermined amount.
4. A dispenser comprisinga housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, a partial closure at the lower end of said magazine, said partial closure having a plurality of slots therein, said magazine being swingably supported in said housing at the upper end thereof, resilient means located between said housing and said magazine and normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, a pair of ejeetors carried by said housing and adapted to pass into said slots when the magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means, coin guiding means in said housing movable up and down in said housing, said coin guiding means located in a space between a side of said magazine and a 'side of said housing, resilient means tending to maintain said all) coin guiding means in one position, a coin stop in said housing, said 00in stop secured to said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move said slots across said ejectors in response to displacement of said coin stop upon movement of said coin guiding means against a coin on said coin stop.
5. A dispenser defined in claim 4 and said coin stop being in the path of movement of said guiding means in one direction to limit the movement of said coin guiding means in the absence of a coin on said stop.
6. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, a partial closure at the lower end said magazine, a pair of slots in said closure and at the lower end of the magazine for exposing a. side of the lowermost of said units, said magazine being swingably supported at its upper end in said housing, resilient means located in said housing and tending to maintain the lower part of said magazine in one position, ejector means carried by said housing and adapted to pass into the slotted end of said magazine and to bear against and eject out of said magazine the lowermost of said units in said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action ot'said resilient means, coin guiding means in said housing and movable up and down in said housing, said coin guiding means located between a side of said magazine and a side of said housing, resilient means tending to maintain said coin guiding means in its upper position, a stop in said housing, said coin stop secured to said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, said stop being in the path of movement of said guiding means to limit the downward movement of said guiding means in the absence of a coin on said step, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means in response to displacement of said stop upon downward movement of said guiding means against a coin on said stop.
7. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin opening, an elongated magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being swingably supported at the upper end thereof in said housing, resilient means between said housing and magazine to maintain said magazine in one position, a partial closure at the lower end of said magazine, the lower end of said magazine and partial closure having a pair of slots therein for exposure of the lowermost of said units, ejector means carried by said housing for hearing against the exposed portions of the lowermost of said units to discharge it from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means, coin guiding means in said housing and movable up and down in said housing, said coin guiding means located between a side of said magazine and a side or" said housing, resilient means tending to maintain said coin guiding means in its upper position, a coin stop connected to said magazine, said coin stop secured to said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, said coin stop being in the path of movement of said guiding means in the absence of a coin on said stop, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move the lower end across the path between said ejector means in re sponse to displacement of said coin stop upon movement of said guiding means against a coin on said coin stop after a coin has been inserted into said guiding means.
8. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin opening, an elongated magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being pivotally supported at its upper end to said housing, resilient means located between said housing and said magazine for normally maintaining said magazine in one position, a partial closure at the lower end of said magazine, a pair of slots in said closure at the lower end for exposing parts of the lowermost of said units, ejectors carried by said housing and adapted to bear against the exposed portions of the assasss lowermost of said units to discharge said unit from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means, voin guiding means in said housing and movable up and down in said housing, said coin guiding means located between a side of said magazine and a side of said housing, resilient means tending to maintain said coin guiding means in its upper position, a coin collector in said housing and below said coin guide, a coin stop secured to said magazine, said coin stop being in the path of downward movement of said guiding means to limit the movement of said gu' means in the absence of a coin on said stop, s. u c in opening communicating with said guiding means when the guiding means is in one position, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to swing said magazine in response to displacement said coin stop upon movement of said guiding means against a coin on said stop after a coin has reached said stop following its insertion into the coin opening and guided to that position by said guiding means.
9. A dispenser comprising a coin receiver housing, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relationship, said magazine being swingabiy supported in said housing, resilient means bearing against said magazine and normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine having openings in its lower end, ejector means for ejecting one of said dispensable units from said magazine in the course of swinging said magazine to a predetermined position against the action of said resilient means, coin guiding means in said housing and movable up and down in said housing, said coin guiding means located between a side of said magazine and a side of said housing, resilient means tending to maintain said coin guiding means in its upper position, a coin stop in said housing, said coin stop secured to said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move the lower end thereof to said pre determined position whereby in the course of said move ment said ejector means moves a unit out of said magazine in response to displacement of said coin stop upon movement of said coin guiding means against a coin on said coin stop. a
10. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin receiving opening and another opening therein, a mags zine for containing a plurality of units to be dispensed, a magazine swingably supported in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said housing in one position, said magazine having openings in the lower end thereof, ejector means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine in the course of swinging said magazine to a predetermined position against the action of said resilient means, a coin stop carried by said magazine, an assembly movable up and down in said housing and disposed in a space between a side of said housing and a side of said magazine, resilient means tending to maintain said assembly in its upper position said assembly adapted to receive and guide a coin to said coin stop when said assembly is in its upper position, said assembly including a support and a member pivotally carried by said support, a finger actuator secured to said member and normally extending through said other opening in said housing, and means for bearing against said coin when said coin is on said stop, after coin insertion said assembly being movable downwardly against the action of said second resilient means upon the application of downward finger pressure on said actuator to push said bearing against said coin to act against said coin to swing said magazine t predetermined position and in the course of said swinging of said magazine said ejector means becoming operable to eject a unit therefrom.
l1. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin receiving opening and anotheropening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units to be dispensed, said magazine swingably supported in housing, re
silient means normally tending to maintain said housing in one position, said magazine having openings in the lower end thereof, ejector means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine in the course of swinging said magazine to a predetermined position against the action of said resilient means, a coin stop carried by said magazine, an assembly movable up and down in said housing and disposed in a space between a side of said housing and a side of said magazine, resilient means tending to maintain said assembly in its upper position said assembly adapted to receive and guide a coin to said coin stop when said assembly is in its upper position, said assembly including a support and a member pivotally carried by said support, a finger actuator secured to said member and normally extending through said other opening in said housing, and means for hearing against said coin when said coin is on said stop, after coin insertion said assembly being movable downwardly against the action of said second resilient means upon the application of downward finger pressure on said actuator to push said bearing against said coin to act against said coin stop to swing said magazine to predetermined position and in the course of said swinging of said magazine said ejector means becoming operable to eject a unit therefrom, and upon the continued application of such pressure to said actuator, said pivoted element being swingable inwardly to move the outer end of the actuator close to the outer face of said housing whereby the finger applying such pressure slips oh? of said actuator to release said assembly from such pressure and said assembly in response to the action of said second resilient means returns to its original upper position.
12. A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin receiving opening and another opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units to be dispensed, said magazine swingably supported in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said housing in one position, said magazine having openings in the lower end thereof, ejector means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine in the course of swinging said magazine to a predetermined position against the action of said resilient means, a coin stop carried by said magazine, an assembly movable up and down in said housing and disposed in a space between a side of said housing and a side of said magazine, resilient means tending to maintain said assembly in its upper position said assembly adapted to receive and guide a coin to said coin stop when said assembly is in its upper position, said assembly including a support and a member pivotally carried by said support, a finger actuator secured to said member and normally extending through said other opening in said housing, and means for bearing against said coin when said coin is on said step, after coin insertion said assembly being movable downwardly against the action of said second resilient means upon the application of downward finger pressure on said actuator to push said bearing against said coin to act against said coin stop to swing said magazine to predetermined position and in the course of said swinging of said magazine said ejector means becoming operable to eject a unit therefrom, said coin stop being in the path of movement of said assembly in one direction to limit the movement of said assembly in that direction upon downward finger pressure on said actuator, in the absence of a coin on said coin stop and upon continuation of such pressure on said actuator after said assembly is stopped by said coin stop, said element being swingable inwardly to move the outer end of said actuator close to the outer face of said housing whereby the finger applying such pressure slips off of said actuator to release said assembly from such pressure and said assembly in response to said second resilient means returns to its original' upper position.
13. .A dispenser comprising a housing having a coin receiving opening and another opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units to be dispensed,
assaaea said magazine swingably supported in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said housing in one position, said magazine having openings in the lower end thereof, ejector means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine in the course of swinging said magazine to a predetermined position against the action of said resilient means, a coin stop carried by said magazine, an assembly movableup and down in said housing and disposed in a space between a side of said housing and a side of said magazine, resilient means tending to maintain said assembly in its upper position said assembly adapted to receive and guide a coin to said coin stop when said assembly is in its upper position, said assembly including a support and a member pivotally carried by said support, a finger actuator secured to said member and normally extending through said other opening in said housing, and means for hearing against said coin when said coin is on said stop, after coin insertion said assembly being movable downwardly against the action of said second resilient means upon the application of downward finger pressure on said actuator to push said bearing against said coin to act against said coin stop to swing said magazine to predetermined position and in the course of said swinging of said magazine said ejector means be coming operable to eject a unit therefrom, said coin stop being in the path of movement of said assembly in one direction to limit the movement of said assembly in that direction upon downward finger pressure on said actuator, in the absence of a coin on said coin stop and upon continuation of such pressure on said actuator after said assembly is stopped by said coin stop, said element being swingable inwardly to move the outer end of said actuator close to the outer face of said housing whereby the finger applying such pressure slips off of said actuator to release said assembly from such pressure and said assembly in response to said second resilient means return to its original upper position, and upon the continued application of such pressure to said actuator, said pivoted element being swingable inwardly to move the outer end of the actuator close to the outer face of said housing whereby the finger applying such pressure slips oit of said actuator to release said assembly from such pressure and said assembly in response to the action of said second resilient means returns to its original upper position.
14. A dispenser comprising a coin receiving housing, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relationship, said magazine being swingably supported in said housing, resilient means bearing against said magazine and normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine having an opening in its lower end, ejector means for ejecting one of said dispensable units from said magazine in the course of swinging of said magazine to a predetermined position against the action of said resilient means, coin guiding means in said housing and movable up and down in said housing, resilient means tending to maintain said coin guiding means in its upper position, a coin stop in said housing, said coin stop carried by said magazine and extending outwardly therefrom, means for temporarily maintaining in one position one of said dispensable units after it has been ejected from said magazine, said last mentioned means including a pivoted element in said housing and normally being in inoperative position, said magazine being swingable against the action of said first resilient means to move the lower end thereof to said predetermined position whereby in the course of said movement said element is actuated to operative position and said ejector means moves a unit out of said magazine on to said element in response to displacement of said coin stop upon movement of said coin guiding means against acoin on said coin stop.
15. A dispenser including a housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation and having a dis charge end, said magazine being swingably supported and located in said housing, means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine when the discharge end of said magazine is moved in one direction; in combination with a pair 0t stops coupled with said magazine, coin actuating steam and means for bearing against one of said stops, said last two mentioned means being coupled together, and movable in unison, with the former being movable from one position to force a coin against the other of said to said magazine towards said ejecting means for c m of one of said units from said magazine to loc to said one of said stops adjacent said means for bearing against one or" said stops, means cooperating with said ejecting means for latching said magazine in one sition after the last of said units has been discharged said one of said stops cooperating with said means for nearing thereagainst to maintain said coin actuating means from returning to its original position when said magazine is latched in said position.

A dispenser including a housing having a coin. receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation and having a discharge end, said magazine being swingably supported and located in said housing, means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine when the discharge end of said magazine is moved in one direction; in combination with a pair of stops secured to said magazine, coin guiding means, coin actuating means, coin blocking means and means for hearing against one of said stops, said last four mentioned means being coupled together, said coin guiding means communicating with said coin receiving opening when in one position, one of said stops located below said coin guiding means to receive thereon a coin inserted through said opening and guided thereto by said coin guiding means, said last four mentioned means being movable together, with the receiving end of the coin guiding means and the coin blocking means being located to block coin insertion into said coin guiding means, and the coin actuating means movable from one position to force a coin against sa d coin stop to swing said magazine to wards said ejecting means for the ejection of one of said units from said magazine to locate said one of said steps against said means for bearing thereagainst, means cooperating with said ejecting means after the last unit has been ejected from said magazine to latch said magazine in one position, said stop cooperating with said means for bearing thereagainst to maintain said coin guiding means and said coin blocking means in location to block coin insertion into said coin guiding means and to maintain all oi said four means from returning to their original position while said magazine is in its latched position.
17. A dispenser including a housing having a coin recei 3 opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation and having a discharge end, resilient means normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, ejector means for ejecting one of said units from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means; in combination with a pair of stops carried by said magazine, a reciprocable assembly including coin guiding means, coin actuating means and stop bearing means, one of said stops located adjacent the end of said coin guiding means to receive a coin thereon, means rideable on said units when stacked in said magazine, said assembly being movable in one direction to bear against said coin on said receiving stop for swinging said magazine against the action of said spring for ejecting one of said units therefrom and to locate said other stop adjacent said bearing means, said rider cooperating with said ejector means to latch said magazine in one position against the action of said resilient means when the last unit has been ejected therefrom, and said stop acting against said bearing means to maintain said assembly from returning to its original position while said magazine is in said latched position.
18. A dispenser including a housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being swingably supported and located in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine having openings therein at the lower end thereof, ejector means adapted to pass through one of said openings to eject one of said units from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means; in combination with a coin stop support located in said housing, movable means for forcing a coin against said stop to swing said magazine against the action of said resilient means and for simultaneously blocking said coin receiving opening to prevent coin insertion therethrough when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means to the position where a unit is ejected therefrom by said ejector means.
19. A dispenser including a housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being swingably supported and located in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine having openings therein at the lower end thereof, ejector means adapted to pass through one of said openings to eject one of said units from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means; in combination with a coin stop support located in said housing, a spring, means connected to said spring and movable against the action of said spring, said movable means adapted upon movement in one direction to force a coin against said stop to swing said magazine against the action of said resilient means and to simultaneously block said coin receiving opening to prevent coin insertion therethrough when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means to the position where a unit is ejected therefrom by said ejector means, a pawl pivotally carried by said movable means, said spring secured to said pawl, stationary tooothed means cooperating with said pawl to prevent said movable means from returning to its original position until after said magazine has been swung to its position where a unit is ejected therefrom.
20. A dispenser including a housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being swingably supported and located in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine having openings therein at the lower end theerof, ejector means adapted to pass through one of said openings to eject one of said units from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means; in combination with a coin stop support located in said housing, movable means for forcing a coin against said stop to swing said maga zine against the action of said resilient means and for simultaneously blocking said coin receiving opening to prevent coin insertion therethrough when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means to the position where a unit is ejected therefrom by said ejector means, means for riding on said units, one of said last two mentioned means having an opening therein adapted to accommodate the other of said last two mentioned means to maintain said magazine in locked position against the action of said resilient means.

A dispenser including a housing having a coin receiving opening therein, a magazine for containing a plurality of units in stacked relation, said magazine being swingably supported and located in said housing, resilient means normally tending to maintain said magazine in one position, said magazine having openings therein at the lower end thereof, ejector means adapted to pass through one of said openings to eject one of said units from said magazine when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means; in combination with a coin stop support located in said housing, a spring, means connected to said spring and movable against the action of said spring, said movable means adapted upon movement in one direction to force a coin against said stop to swing said magazine against the action of said resilient means and to simultaneously block said coin receiving opening to prevent coin insertion therethrough when said magazine is swung against the action of said resilient means to the position Where a unit is ejected therefrom by said ejector means, a pawl pivotally carried by said movable means, said spring secured to sai d pawl, stationary toothed means cooperating with said pawl to prevent said movable means from returning to its original position until after said magazine has been swung to its position where a unit is ejected therefrom, means for riding on said units, one of said last two mentioned means having an opening therein adapted to accommodate the other of said last two mentioned means to maintain said magazine in locked position against the action of said resilient means.
