The hoist carriage scaffold assembly includes a plurallty. of upstanding guideway sections, indicated generallytby the reference numerals 30, 31, and 32, arranged 15 inlvertical end .to end relation and positioned in front of the channel bars 18to 21, inclusive, with the lowermost section 30 adjacent the lowermostchannel bar 18 and the next adjacent channel bar 19 and the guideway section 31,.next adjacent to the section 30 contiguous to the 20. channel bar 20, the guideway section 32 being contiguous to thechannel bar 21. Each of the guideway sections 30,- 31, and 32 embody a pair of upstanding channel pieces 33 and 34,- as shown in detail in Figures2 to 5, inclusive. The channel piece-33has a web '35 and a 25:..pair of legs--36 and 37 projecting perpendicularly; from one face of the Web and the channel piece 34 has a web 38 and a pair of legs 39 and 4t) projecting perpendicularly from one face of the web 38. The channel pieces 33- and 34 are positioned with respect to each aoyother'iso. that their legs .36 and 37, and 39 and 40,'face each: other and. the webs35 and. 38 face each :other.

When the hoist carriage scaffold assembly is inassembledcondition, the horizontally disposed legs 44 and 46 offthe cross pieces 41 and 42, respectively, are received between and supported upon the legs23 and 24 of 'the channel bar 20. Thecross pieces adjacent the upper ends of the guide'way sections 30 and. 32. are similarly connected to the adjacent channel pieces and need not befurther described.
Means is provided on the lower cross piece 42 of each f pair of cross pieces associated with the guideway sections 30," 31,1and 32, for retaining the horizontally disposed legs '44 and/16' of the cross pieces 41 and 42 in supporting relation with respect to the associated channel pieces 33 and 34. Specifically, this means comprises a plurality oflatch elements 47 pivotally connected intermediate their ends 'to L-shaped brackets 47a which. are fixedly I, secured to the underside of the cross piece'42 and have one leg-extending upwardly into engagement with the web -22'ofthe associated one of the channel bars 19,

The hoist carriage 16 includes a horizontally disposed four-sided platform 56 having uprights 57, 58, 59, and 60, rising from the adjacent corners of the platform 56 with a pair of U-shaped bars 61 and 62, inverted, with their bights adjacent each other and fixedly secured together and to a coupling member 63, the free ends of the legs of the U-shaped members 61 and 62 being fixedly secured to the upper ends of the adjacent uprights 57 to 60, inclusive, and to side pieces 64 and 65 on their respective sides of the hoist carriage 16.
Means is provided on the adjacent ones of the uprights 57 to 60, inclusive, engaging the web and legs of the adjacent ones of the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway section 31 or the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway section 30, or the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway section 32 upon execution of upward and downward movement of the hoist carriage 16. Specifically, this means includes a pair of rollers 68 and 69 mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis in each of the uprights 57 to 60, inclusive, and arranged in vertical spaced relation with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 7, with respect to the upright 60. Another pair of rollers 70 and 71 are also arranged in vertical spaced relation on each of the uprights 57 to 60, inclusive, as shown with respect to the upright 60 and are positioned inwardly of the rollers 68 and 69. The rollers 68 and 69 engage the legs of the adjacent channel piece of each guideway section and the rollers 70 and 71 engage the web of the channel piece during execution of the upward and downward movement of the carriage 16.
It is obvious that the duplication of the rollers 68 to 71, inclusive, on each of the uprights 57 to 60, inclusive, permits the positioning of the carriage 16 with either the uprights 57 and 58 or the uprights 59 and 60 received between the channel pieces of the guideway sections 30 to 32, inclusive.
p The scalfold assembly includes a gallows frame 72 and a crane assembly 73 carried by the post members 11 and 14. A conventionally arranged hoisting cable 74 carried on the crane assembly 73 has one end fixedly secured to the coupler 63 on the carriage 16 and the other end connected to suitable hoisting machinery, the
latter not being shown as not being a part of the invention.
The scaffold assembly includes brace members 75 connected by suitable and conventional means to the post members to 15, inclusive, and to the gallows frame 72 for bracing the latter.
In the erection of the hoist carriage scafiold assembly of the present invention, the post members 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and are erected with the gallows frame 72 carried by the post members 11, 14 and the brace 78 Then the platform 17 is positioned on the erected scafiold. The transversely disposed channel bars 18 and 21 are then positioned upon the post members 10, 11 and are detachably attached to the post members by means of the consections 30 have pins 76 which are received in complemental sockets 77 on the lower ends of the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 31. In the same manner the upper ends of the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 31 also have pins 76 which are received in complemental sockets 77 on the lower ends of the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 32. The channel bars 19, 20 and 21 are received between the adjacent cross pieces 41 and 42 while the channel bar 18 is received in the channel formed by the cross piece 52 and the L-shaped brackets 55. The latch elements 47 are then swung to a position engaging the webs of the adjacent channel bars 19, 20 and 21. The hoisting cable 74 is then attached to the coupling member 63 on the hoist carriage 16 and the hoist carriage then elevated to the platform 17, whereupon the carriage 16 is mounted on the assembled channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 30, 31 and 32 by inserting the rollers 68 and 69 of the uprights 59 and of the carriage into the upper ends of the channel pieces 33 and 34.
It will be seen that the hoist carriage scaffold assembly of the present invention provides a rapidly erected and safely constructed scaffold for a hoist and one which is sturdily built and economically constructed. The erection of the hoist carriage scaffold assembly requires a minimum of labor for erection or disassembly and uses elements which interlock and may replace each other, said elements being readily transportable and stored in a minimum of space.
What is claimed is:
1. In a scaffold assembly, at least two post members arranged in vertical spaced relation, a channel bar including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of said web positioned on one side and transversely of said post members adjacent the upper and lower ends of the latter and having the web abutting and detachably attached to the post members with the legs facing away from the post members, an upstanding guideway section positioned in front of said channel bars, said section embodying a pair of upstanding channel pieces each including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of the web, the channel pieces being positioned so that the web and legs of one channel piece face the web and legs of the other channel piece, and a pair of horizontally disposed cross pieces arranged in vertical spaced relation adjacent the upper ends of said channel pieces, each of said cross pieces being of angle configuration with one of the legs of the upper one of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of the adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said upper one of said pair of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the lower end of said vertically disposed one leg and one of the legs of the lower one of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to said outer faces of said adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said lower one of said pair nectors 26 and 28. Next, the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 30 are-erected upon the channel bars 18 and 19, followed, in turn, by erection of the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 31 and the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway sections 32 upon the channel bars 20 and 21. The upper ends of the channel pieces 33 and 34 of the guideway legs of said upper and lower of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the upper end of said last-named vertically disposed leg, another horizontally disposed cross piece of angle configuration arranged adjacent the lower end of said channel pieces with one of the legs being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of said adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said another cross piece being horizontally disposed and at the lower end of said last-mentioned vertically disposed leg, said horizontally disposed legs of said pair of cross pieces and said horizontally disposed leg of said another cross piece being supported upon the channel bars, means on one of the horizontally disposed legs of said pairs of cross pieces and one said horizontally disposed leg of said another cross piece and engageable with the webs of the upper and lower channel barstcforxretainingztsaid ipairzof cross piecestand said another: crossapiece inzmsupporting relation on the upper and "lowertchannel, bars,rand.a hoist carriage connected to'thezpairsof upstanding-channel pieces of said guideway section forup and'down movement therealong.
2. In a scaifold assembly, at least two post members arranged in vertical spaced relation,artplurality-of channel bars arranged in superimposed. spaced vertical relation positioned on one side and transversely of said post members with the lowermost one of said channel bars being adjacent the lower ends of said post members and the other of said channel bars beingspaced from. each other, each channel bar including a web and a pairiof legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of said web and having the web abutting and detachably attached to the post members with the legs facing away from said post members, a plurality of upstanding guideway sections arranged in vertical end to end relation positioned in front of said channel bars with the lowermost section adjacent the lowermost and the next adjacent channel bars and the guideway section next to the lowermost one of said guideway sections being contiguous to the next adjacent channel bar, each of said guideway sections embodying a pair of upstanding channel pieces each including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of the web, the channel pieces being positioned so that the web and legs of one channel piece face the web and legs of the other channel piece, and a pair of horizontally disposed cross pieces arranged in vertical spaced relation adjacent the upper ends of each pair of channel pieces, each cross piece of each pair of cross pieces .being of angle configuration with one of the legs of the upper one of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said upper one of said pair of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the lower end of said vertically disposed one leg and one of the legs of the lower one of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of said adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said lower one of said pair of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the upper end of said lastnamed vertically disposed one leg, said horizontally disposed legs of said cross pieces being supported upon the legs of said channel pieces, means on one of the horizontally disposed legs of each of said pair of cross pieces and engageable with the web of the adjacent channel piece for retaining the horizontally disposed legs of the cross pieces in supporting relation upon the channel piece, and a hoist carriage connected to the upstanding channel pieces of said guideway sections for up and down movement therealong.
3. In a scaffold assembly, at least two post members arranged in vertical spaced relation, a plurality of channel bars arranged in superimposed spaced vertical re lation positioned on one side and transversely of said post members with the lowermost one of said channel bars being adjacent the lower ends of said post members and the other of said channel bars being spaced from each other, each channel bar including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of said web and having the web abutting and detachably attached to the post members with the legs facing away from said post members, a plurality of upstanding guideway sections arranged in vertical end to end relation positioned in front of said channel bars with the lowermost section adjacent the lowermost and the next adjacent channel bars and the guideway section next to the lowermost one of said guideway sections being contiguous to the next adjacent channel bar, each of said guideway sections embodying a pair of upstanding channel pieces each including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one-facetof;the'web;;the channel pieces being positioned so that the web and-,le'gsg-of one channel piece face the-web and legs; of the other channel piece, and a pair of horizontally disposed cross pieces arranged in vertical spaced relation adjacent the upper ends of each pair; of channel-pieces,-each cross piece of said pair of cross' pieces being ofangle configuration with one of the legs of the upperone of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces5ofadjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said upper one of said pair of 'crossnpieces'being horizontally disposed and at the lowerend of saidvertically disposed one leg and one of the. .legs of the'lowerone of said pairof cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of said adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said lower one of said pair of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the upper end of said last-named vertically disposed one leg, said horizontally disposed legs of said cross pieces being supported upon the legs of said channel pieces, means on one of the horizontally disposed legs of each of said pair of cross pieces and engageable with the web of said channel piece for retaining the horizontally disposed legs of the cross pieces in supporting relation upon the channel piece, and a hoist carriage connected to the upstanding channel pieces of said guideway sections for up and down movement therealong, said hoist carriage including a horizontally disposed foursided platform and an upright rising from each corner of said platform, the carriage being arranged so that two of the adjacent uprights are received within the upstanding channel pieces of said guideway section, and means carried by each of said adjacent uprights and engaging the web and legs of the adjacent channel piece of said guideway section.
4. In a scaifold assembly, at least two post members arranged in vertical spaced relation, a plurality of channel bars arranged in superimposed spaced vertical relation positioned on one side and transversely of said post members with the lowermost one of said channel bars being adjacent the lower ends of said post members and the other of said channel bars being spaced from each other, each channel bar including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of said web and having the web abutting and detachably attached to the post members with the legs facing away from said post members, a plurality of upstanding guideway sections arranged in vertical end to end relation positioned in front of said channel bars with the lowermost section adjacent the lowermost and the next adjacent channel bars and the guideway section next to the lowermost one of said guideway sections being contiguous to the next adjacent channel bar, each of said guideway sections embodying' a pair of upstanding channel pieces each including a web and a pair of legs projecting perpendicularly from one face of the web, the channel pieces being positioned so that the web and legs of one channel piece face the web and legs of the other channel piece, and a pair of horizontally disposed cross pieces arranged in vertical spaced relation adjacent the upper ends of each pair of said channel pieces, each cross piece of said pair of cross pieces being of angle configuration with one of the legs of the upper one of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said upper one of said pair of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the lower end of said vertically disposed one leg and one of the legs of the lower one of said pair of cross pieces being vertically disposed and abutting and fixedly secured to the outer faces of said adjacent legs of said channel pieces and the other of the legs of said lower one of said pair of cross pieces being horizontally disposed and at the upper end of said last-named vertically disposed S 7 one leg, said horizontally disposed legs of said cross pieces being supported upon the legs of said channel pieces, means on one of the horizontally disposed legs of each of said pair of cross pieces and engageable with the web of said channel piece for retaining the horizontally disposed legs of the cross pieces in supporting relation upon the channel piece, a hoist carriage connected to the upstanding channel pieces of said guideway sections for up and down movement therealong, said hoist carriage including a horizontally disposed foursided platform and an upright rising from each corner of said platform, the carriage being arranged so that two of the adjacent uprights are received within the upstanding channel pieces of said guideway section, and means carried by each of said adjacent uprights and engaging the web and legs of the adjacent channel piece of said guideway section, and spaced rollers carried by each of the adjacent uprights and rollably engaging the web and 5 legs respectively of the adjacent channel piece of said guideway section.
