(Cl. 24-81) The invention relates to a device for positioning boards at a predetermined angle, and relates more particularly to such a device for positioning boards at right angle. Still more particularly, it relates to a bracket, or a combination of brackets, especially suitable for positioning upright partitions in drawers at right angle to the main drawer boards.

Reference to drawers and parts thereof in this description is made solely for .the purpose of clarification, and no limitation is intended thereby save as pointed out in the claims hereof.

It is among the objects of the invention to provide for such a bracket which is simple to manufacture and easy to install, and which will safely hold partitions uprightly in drawers.

The foregoing and other objects of the invention will be best understood from the following description of A bridge portion 31 connects the two clamps 23 and 24 integrally.

A clamping means generally designated 32 is integrally connected to the engaging means 22, and comprises a exemplifications thereof, reference being had to the ac companying drawings, wherein:

In carrying the invention into efiect in the embodiments which have been selected for illustration in the accompanying drawings and for description in this specification, and referring now particularly to Figs. 1-5, there is provided a bracket generally indicated at 21.

The bracket 21 comprises engaging means 22 which include two clamps 23 and 24 for suspending the bracket 21 from the top edge 25 of a main drawer board 26.

The clamps 23 and 24 are U-shaped and engage the opposite surfaces 27 and 28 of the board 26. The clamp 23 has a width v while the clamp 24 has a width u, and in practice the two widths v and u may be equal. The clamps 23 and 24 are spaced apart forming therebetween a gap that has a width w. The width w of the gap 29 is larger than either the width v of the clamp 23 or the width u of the clamp 24.

bottom section 33 that is integral with the bridge portion 31, and two side sections, flanges or jaws 34 and 35. The side sections 34 and 35 form with the bottom section 33 a U-shaped channel, and the side sections 34 and 35 are spaced apart for a distance t that substantially corresponds, and may be slightly larger than, the thickness of a partition board 36. The opposite side surfaces 37 and 38 of the board 36 are engaged and clamped by the side sections 34 and 35 of the clamping means 32.

A mechanism 39 for restraining upward movement of the board 36 is connected to the side section 34, and comprises a leg 41 that is aligned and integral with the side section 34, and a lug 42 that is bent off the leg 41 to engage a terminal surface, such as the top surface 43, of the board 36, as best shown in Fig. 4. i

From each of the side sections 34 and 35 there is stamped out, and bent outwardly to lie flush against the innersurface 27 of the board 26, a flap. Thus, a flap 44 is stamped out from though integrally connected to the side section 34, and a flap 45 to the side section 35. Furthermore, from each of the flaps 44 and 45 there is bent out and extends horizontally a tongue; thus, the tongue 46 extends from the flap 44, and the tongue 47 extends from the flap 45. As best shown in Fig. 9, the tongue 47 has a V-shaped recess 48 providing the tongue 47 with two piercing points 49. The tongue 46 has a similar recess and piercing points, like the tongue 47 (but has not been illustrated in detail).

The operation of the above described embodiment is as follows.

A drawer has two or more parallel main boards 26 (of which only one is shown in the drawings, that extend in the direction of drawer movement, and has a bottom 51. In order to position the partition 36 at right angle to the main boards 26, a bracket 21 is suspended from the top edge 25 of each of two opposite parallel main boards 26. The partition 36 will have a length slightly smaller than the distance between the two main boards 26.

Each of the brackets 21 is suspended from the top edge 25 of a main board '26 by attaching around the top edge 25 the two clamps 23 and 24 so that they will clamp the opposite side surfaces 27 and 28 of the main board 26 adjacent the top edge 25. The tongues 46 and 47 are then pushed into the surface 27 of the board 26, thereby locking the bracket 21 in position.

The brackets 21 will need to be so positioned that they are aligned, and clamping means 32 of the two brackets 21 will be opposite each other on the two opposite main boards 26, ready to receive the partition 36. The clamping means 32 of each bracket 21 comprises two flanges 34 and 35 that are spaced from each other for a width 1 matching the width of the partition 36.

Thereupon the partition 36 may be inserted from above into theclamping means 32, that is, between the flanges 34 and 35, of the opposite brackets 21 until the bottom of the partition 36 abuts against the top surface of the drawer bottom 51. The end surfaces of the partition will, during insertion, slide on the bottom sections 33 of the clamping means 32. The leg 41 and lug 42 are so dimensioned, as best shown in Fig. 4, that when the partition 36 abuts against the bottom 51, the lug 42will engage the top 43 of the partition 36, thus holding the latter against upward removal.

If it is desired to attach partitions 36 on both sides of a drawer dividing board 26, two brackets 21 may be attached to the same board 26, and opposite brackets to main boards spaced from the board 26 on each side thereof (the other main boards not being shown). Such an arrangement is shown in Fig. 6. Two brackets 21a and 21b are shown suspended from the board 26. The clamp 23b of the bracket 21b is disposed in the gap 29a of the clamp 21a, and conversely the clamps 23a of the bracket 21a is disposed in the gap 295 of the bracket 21b. As previously mentioned, the dimensioning of the clamps and gap are so that such an interpositioning is thereby rendered possible.

In the modification shown in Figs. and 11, a bracket 121 comprises engaging means 122 for suspension from a main board, and includes two clamps 123 and 124. Each of these clamps has an extension flap flush with the inner surface of the main board; thus, the clamp 123 has a flap 144, and the clamp 124 has a flap 145. A board piercing tongue 146 is bent rearwardly from the flap 144, and a tongue 147 from the flap 145.

Clamping means132 are provided for a partition, comprising flanges 134 and 135 that are spaced apart for the thickness at of the partition. The flanges 134 and 135 are interconnected by means of an integral arched connecting piece 142 to engage the top of the partition to restrain removal thereof.

The operation of the modification of Figs. 10 and 11 is as follows. Two brackets 121 are first mounted over the end-portions of a partition board, the flanges 134 and 135 of each bracket engaging the opposite side surfaces of the partition, and the brackets 121 are arranged oppositely on the partition, with the engaging means 122 being turned outwardly. Thereafter the engaging means 122 of each bracket 121 is moved to be suspended from a main board of the drawer, together with the partition until the partition abuts the bottom of the drawer. Subsequently the tongues 146 and 147 of the brackets 121 are pushed into the main boards.

It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that, the novel principles of the invention discosed hereinin connection with specific exemplifications thereof will suggest various other modifications and applications of the same. It is accordingly desired that in construing the breadth of the appended claims they shall not be limited to the specific exemplifications of the invention described herein.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent, is as follows:

l. A bracket, for use in positioning boards at a predetermined angle, comprising in combination, a body including engaging means clamping a side edge of a first board, a channel connected to said engaging means and extending with its web alongside a side surface of said first board and operable to clamp with its side, flanges a second board at said angle to said surface, a portion of each flange forming a flap and being bent outwardly from the flange for abutting against said surface, a portion of each flap forming a piercingelement bent outwardly from the flap at right angle to said surface and operable to pierce the same for immobilizing said body relative to said first board, and an arm formed on said channel and extending therefrom, said arm including a lug bent from said arm and operable to engage a lateral portion of a terminal edge of said second board to restrain movement thereof.

A bracket, as claimed in claim 1, said engaging means including two channel-shaped clamps spaced apart defining therebetween an empty channel-shaped space along interconnected portions of said side edge and of said surface and of the surface opposite thereto of said first board, said space having dimensions larger than the corresponding dimensions of either clamp, whereby a second bracket similar to said first may be suspended from said side edge with a clamp disposed in said space and with its channel Web alongside said opposite surface and its channel aligned with said channel in back-to-back relation but separated therefrom by said first board.

In a device, for use in positioning two boards in alignment and at right angle to one board therebetween, in combination, two brackets each including engaging means operable to engage a side edge of said one board for restraining movement of said bracket in a direction perpendicular to said side edge, immobilizing means connected to said engaging means and locking said bracket relative to said one board, the engaging means of each bracket including two clamps spaced apart defining therebetween a space exposing said side edge of said one board, said space being wider than the width of each clamp, and clamping means connected to the engaging means of each bracket and being oii-set laterally relative to the center of said space, the clamping means of each bracket being operable to clamp a side surface of one of said other boards holding it at right angle to said one board, whereby each bracket may be disposed on a different side of said one board and one clamp of each bracket be positioned in the space between the clamps of the other bracket with the clamping mean of said two brackets positioned in alignment holding said two boards aligned.
