2 Claims. (Cl. 46-40) The present invention relates to a childs toy loader which is adapted for use in loading and lifting a shovel and for lifting other articles as well. It is the principal purpose of the invention to provide such a toy which has a heavy wheeled base provided with a pedestal fixed on the base and extending upward therefrom and a seat block which has a bottom recess receiving the pedestal and which is rotatably supported on the pedestal. The seat block has at one end thereof a boom mounting which supports a boom that extends outwardly from the seat block to its free end where a load lifting tool is suspended. The boom Ihas means thereon for raising and lowering the lifting tool and there is means on the block for holding the free end of the boom raised.
In the main form of the invention the boom is spring raised by a spring that is carried by the mounting for the boom on the block. The boom has a lever arm pivoted at its free end and the lever arm carries a shovel at its lower end. For swinging the lever arm to operate the shovel the boom carries a hand lever which is connected to the lever arm by a ring. The boom itself also carries a hand lever by which it can be moved up and down. The boom mounting is readily adaptable to take another boom which is provided with pulleys and cables in such a fashion that the child can use a hook on the cable to lift larger articles.
The construction of the toy embodies certain detailed features which will be explained hereinafter. in connection with the drawing wherein a preferred form of the invention is shown. The drawings and description are illustrative only and are not intended to limit the invention except insofar as it is limited by the claims.

Referring now to Figures 1 to 6 inclusive, my improved childs toy loader comprises a wheeled 'base 10 having four wheels 11 mounted in recesses 12 that are provided inthe base 10. Preferably the base is a solid wood block of substantial character. The wheel base mounts 2,822,641 Patented Feb. 11, 1958 ice a cylindrical pedestal 14 which is secured by screws 15 in a recess 13 of the base. The pedestal 14, also preferably of wood, extends upward from the base and receives a solid seat block 16 which has a recess 17 in ilhebottom thereof for the pedestal 14.Y The seat block 16 is rotatable on the pedestal 14 and is held inplace on-the pedestal by providing a groove 18- around the pedestal and a screw 19 extending through the seat block to the recess 17 and into the groove 18. The seat block has a rear end 20 that is rounded as illustrated. The seat block has a front end which is cut to provide a sloping portion 21 and a vertical portion 22. The sides 23 and 24 of the seat block 16 are substantially flat and may be decorated as indicated in Figure l for eye appeal. The top 25 of the seat block is substantially flat so as to provide a comfortable seat for the child who operates the toy. When the child is Vseated on the block 16 he can turn the block on the base 10 by putting his feet on the ground as Will be readily understood.
Referring now to Figures 3 to 6 inclusive and Figure 1, these figures show the detailed construction by which a boom 26 is secured to the face 22 by a boom mounting 27.rv These figures also show the mounting of a lifting tool 28 on the boom 26. The boom 26 isshown as a flat steel bar which is pivoted by a pivot member 29 between two brackets 30 and 31 that are fastened to the face 22. Since the block 16 is madeof wood, wood screws 33 are used to fasten Vthe brackets 30 and 31 to the block 16. The boom 26 is held with its free end raised by a spring 34 which has its free ends 34a and 34h turned in and extended through ears 30a and31a of the brackets 30 and 31. The'spring 34 isfcoiled and then extended beneatlrthe boom as illustrated so that it tendsV to lift the boom to the position shown 'in Figure l at -all times. vAn upstanding handbar 35 Yis xed to the boom 26 and has a handY grip 36 at its upper end. When the child is seated on the block 16 he can raise and lower the boom 26.by using the hand bar 35.
The lifting tool 28 is suspended on a lever arm 37 which is pivoted to the free. end' of the boom 26 by a pivot pin 38. VThe lever arm at itsupper end is pivoted to a link 39 by a pivot pin 40. A 'I'he link 39 in turn is pivoted to a han-d lever 41 by a pivot pin 42. The hand lever 41 is pivoted to the boom 26 by a pivot pin 43. The hand lever 41 also has a hand grip 44 thereon. It is evident that the child on theseat 16 can swing the lever arm 37 to manipulate the lifting tool 28 by operating the hand lever 41.
The lifting tool 28, as shown, comprises a shovel which has a bottom 28a, sides 28h and 28e and a movable back wall 28d. The sides 28b and 28C are bent inwardly at the top to provide a mounting for the lower end of the lever arm 37. The inwardly bent portions 45 and 46 have upwardly extending strips 47 and 48 formed thereon and these strips are fixed to the lever arm 37.
The movable back wall 28d forms a dump gate for the shovel 28. It is hinged to the portions 45 and 46 by hinge rings 49 and 50. In order to keep the back wall durrip gate 28d closed while the shovel 28 is being loaded, a closing finger 51 is slidably mounted on the lever arm 37 by a sleeve 52. This sleeve will drop down of its own weight into the position shown in Figures 1 and 4, normally to hold the back wall 28d in closed position. When the shovel 28 is to be dumped or emptied, the sleeve 52 is pulled up into the position shown in Figure 5 so as to release the back wall 28d and permit it to open. A flexible member 53 is used to lift the sleeve 52 and extends from the finger 51 through a ring 54 on the link 39 to the hand bar 35 Where it can be reached easily by the child operating the toy. As soon as the shovel 28a is emptied,.the child 3 can release the flexible member 53 and this will allow the heavy sleeve 52 to drop and close the back wall 28d of the shovel. A stop member 55 is welded on the hand lever 37 toform aV stop limiting the upward movementof thesleeve 52.
In the'form of the invention illustrated in Figures "I toy l0, the seat 16 Vand the boom mounting means remain thesame. YIn this case, however, the mounting pin 29 mounts a boom 56 of a' diiferent character. This boom 56 is adaptedV to operate a lifting tool57 by means of a cable S8 and a Ywinch 59 on a hand lever 60. The boom` 56, as illustrated, carries three pulleys 61, 62 and 63 atrits free end. The center pulley 62 is used for the cable S8 Vwhilethe two outer pulleys 61` and 63 are used for anchor cables 64 and 65 that support the boom S6. Thesecables 64 and 65 have hooks 66 that engage on pins 67 that are mounted in the side of the block 16. The two cables 64 and 65 are joined together an-d joined to a single cable 68 that extends lengthwise in the boom 56 to a winch 69 near the anchored end of the boom 56. Winding the `cable 68 on the winch 69 lifts the boom 56while unwinding the cable allows the boom to drop atits free end. The winch 59 is operated by a handle 59a and is mounted between the two sides 60a and 601) of the hand lever 60. The winch 69 is mounted between two reenforcing plates 70 and 71 that are provided in the boom 56. A handle 69a is provided for the winch 69. This handle includes a locking sleeve 72 which can slide toward and away from the boom 56 and the adjacent portion 60a of the hand lever 60. This locking sleeve 72, when moved inward to overlap the boom or'the hand lever 60, will hold the boom 56 at the desired elevation;
The cable S8 after passing over the pulley 62 extends around a small guide pulley 73 which is mounted on topof the boom by a bracket 74 directly above the mounting of the hand lever 60. The shaft 69h of the winch 69 serves the dual purpose of providing a mounting for the winch and a pivot for connecting the hand Vlever pivotally on the boom 56. Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. A childs toy loader for the purposes described comprising a wheeled base, an upright cylindrical pedestal supported on the base, a solid seat block having a bottom recess receiving the pedestal whereby to mount the seat block for rotation on the Wheeled base, a pair of spaced apart outwardly extending brackets secured to the seat block, a pivot pin extending between said brackets, a U-shaped spring member having two legs including coil spring portions and having a transverse portion connecting the legs, said legs being pivoted at their free ends to the brackets whereby to support the spring member on the brackets, a boom arm pivotally mounted on the pivot pin, the transverse portion of the spring member being beneath the boom arm whereby to support the boom arm, said spring member being pivotable upward upon removal of the boom arm whereby to permit the boom arm to be supported between said brackets for free pivotal movement.

A childs toy loader for the purposes described comprising a wheeled base, an upright cylindrical pedestal supported on the base, a solid seat block having a bottom recess receiving the pedestal whereby to mount the seat block for rotation on the wheeled base, a boom arm pivoted to the lseat block, said boom arm having an axle mounted at the free end thereof, pulleys mounted on saidaxle, a winch mounted on said boom arm, cables wound on said winch, said cables extending around said pulleys and having their free ends secured to the seat block whereby to raise -andlower the boom arm upon manipulation of the winch, a lever pivoted to the boom arm, a second winch mounted on said lever, and a cable wound on said winch, said cable being trained around one of the pulleys, the free end of said cable supporting av load lifting tool.
