M. DULBERG Oct. 15, 1957 TUBULAR KIT Original Filed Sept. 24, 1948 INVEN TOR.
TUBULAR KIT Murray Dulberg, New York, N. Y.
Griginal appiieation September 24, 1948, Serial No. 50,999, now Patent No. 2,695,028, dated November 23, 1954. Divided and this application August 2, 1954, Serial No. 447,287
4 Claims. (Cl. 132-79) This invention relates to kits containing articles related in use for a special purpose and more particularly to a tubular kit capacitated to contain or carry cosmetic materials and applicators. This application is a division of my co-pending application Serial No. 50,999, filed Septemper 24, 1948, now Patent No. 2,695,028, issued Nov. 23, 1954.
It is the general object of the present invention to provide a convenient and compact unitary kit, whose outward appearance is that of a fountain-pen, for housing a plurality of cosmetic or other articles related in use, such articles benig retained within the kit in such a manner as to be protectively carried therewithin when not in use, at the same time, being readily accessible and exposable for use when and as required.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an outfit of the character indicated, comprising a plurality of separate elements or articles related in use for a special purpose, designed and constructed in such a manner as to readily facilitate selective disposition of a particular element or elements in operative position for application.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a tubular kit having an elongated outer casing serving not only as a means for holding separate articles in axial alignment but, also, functioning as a handle in the application of each of the separate articles.
The foregoing objects as well as additional objects and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent in the course of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, a preferred embodiment of the invention, and wherein- Pig. 1 is an elevational view of a device embodying the features of the invention, the device being in assembled condition with the end caps attached;
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. l, with the end caps shown removed and spaced from the outer casing member and the protruding end portions of unitary sections;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. l but, with the outer casing being indicated by dashes, and showing the end portions of the unitary sections normally frictionally and telescopically retained within opposite ends of the outer casing;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. l but, with the outer casing being indicated by dashes, and the end caps of the separate sections being also indicated by dashes, and showing the opposed threaded portions of the connector member, walled handle and end cap.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the device comprises a preferably cylindrical outer casing for housing articles. It will be understood that the articles retained within outer casing 16 are not to be restricted to the cosmetic articles illustrated in the drawings, but may be in the form of other suitable articles assembled for a common purpose.
In the illustrated preferred embodiment of the preset invention, outer casing it retains frictionaily and tele- 2,809,647 Patented Oct. 15, 1957 scopically therewithin, at one end thereof, a holder assembly 11. Said holder assembly 11 comprises a lipstick holder 12 having a walled handle 13 functioning as a receptacle for perfume or any other desired material. The open end of handle 13 is internally threaded at 14 for engagement with the threaded portion of a connector member 15 and to unite assembly 11 and member 15 as a unitary section, the other end of said connector memher being exposed outside said outer casing it and also being threaded to receive an end cap 16. The removal of said connector member 15 and/or said end cap 16 makes accessible the contents of said handle or receptacle i3. Connector member 15 and/ or end cap 16 provide handle means for detaching assembly 11 from outer casing 1d. Detachment of holder assembly 11 from outer casing it} makes accessible the lipstick normally carried within holder 12.
As clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, handle member 13 is provided with one or more projections 17 for firm frictional engagement with the inner surface of casing 10. it is apparent that when outer casing 19 and handle member 13 are frictionally engaged and end cap 16 is removed from connection with said handle member 13 to provide access to the contents of said handle member 13, outer casing it) functions as a handle for handle or receptacle 13. It is apparent that holder assembly 11 serves as a connector for holding end cap 16 axially aligned with outer casing it} in assembled position.
As clearly shown in Fig. 4, the other end of outer casing it) frictionaily and telescopically retains there- Within a holder assembly or unitary section 18 comprising, in the illustrated embodiment, a tubular cover member 19 and a tubular end member 20. Cover member 19 is provided with an aperture 21 for protrusion of the eyebrow pencil i, shown in Fig. 2, and end member 22) is provided with an aperture 22 for protrusion of lipstick brush 23 or other suitable and desired article. Detachment of holder assembly 18 from outer casing 10 makes accessible the lipstick brush 23.
As clearly shown in Fig. 4, cover member 19 is provided intermediate its ends with an annular head or stop member 24 limiting the extent of insertion of holder as sembly 18 within outer casing it and the terminal cap member 25. in order to facilitate positive frictional engagement between holder assembly 18 and cap member 25 and outer casing iii, cover member 19 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending ribs or ridges 26 spaced about its periphery on opposite sides of annular bead 24. It will be noted that the ribs hold cap member 25 and outer casing iii in spaced relation to the main body portion of cover member 19.
It is apparent that when outer casing 1d and cover member 19 are frictionally engaged and cap member 25 is removed from its protective position about aperture 21 of cover member 19, outer casing it) functions as a handle for the protruding end portion 27 of holder assembly 18 while, simultaneously, together with holder assembly 11, connector member 15 and end cap 16 forming an elongated cover cap for lipstick brush 23. It will be noted that holder assembly 18 and cap member 25 may be detached as a unit from outer casing 10, in which case, cap member 25 functions as a handle for the protruding end portion 28 of holder assembly 18 while, simultaneously, protecting end portion 27 of holder assembly 18. In assembled position, cap member 25, holder assembly 18 and outer casing 10 form an elongated cover cap for the open end 29 of lipstick holder 12. It is apparent that holder assembly 18 serves as a connector for holding cap member 25 axially aligned with outer casing 10 in assembled position. As clearly shown in Fig. 2, when cap member 25 and end cap 16 are removed from their protective positions, outer casing 10 functions, si-
' and cap member 25 may cover lipstick brush 23.
multaneously, as a handle for receptacle 13 and eyebrow pencil P in use. It will, also, be noted that holder assembly 18 is reversibly frictionally insertable in -outer casing and in cap member 25, so that the lipstick brush 23 may protrude from one end of outer casing 10 Also, it will be noted that upon removal of connector member and end cap 16 from receptacle 13, receptacle 13 may be frictionally inserted first in outer casing 10, so that the open end 29 of lipstick holder 12 will be exposed outside the other end of outer casing 10 opposite to holder assembly 18. It is evident, therefore, that outer casing 10 may serve as a handle for each of the separate elements carried by the device. 7
a As previously pointed out, the deviceof the present invention is adapted for various combinations of articles for a special purpose in addition to the cosmetic articles illustrated in the preferred embodiment, such as art materials and supplies, drugs, small tools, and the like.
Since certain additional modifications may be made in the device of the present invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the forgoing specification and shown in the accompanying drawings be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
