Description

GARMENT STRETCHER AND WRINKLE ELIMINATOR Filed Dec. 22, 1955 INVENTOR. ARTHU R E. BROOKHART ATTORNEYS iat Arthur E. Brookhart, Portland, Greg.
Application December 22, 1955, Serial Ne. 554,7 62
1 Claim. (Cl. 223-72) The present invention relates to a garment stretcher and wrinkle eliminator and particularly to such a device that is adapted for maintaining the press in trousers, skirts, shirts, coats and the like, and eliminating wrinkles therefrom.
The primary object of the invention is to maintain the press in trousers hung by the cuffs and the like by providing means for suspending from the waist of the trousers a weight to stretch the garment while hanging on a hanger.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device for stretching the garment in such a manner as not only to maintain the press in the garment while not being worn, but to also eradicate wrinkles developed in the garment while being worn.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described above that can be collapsed into a small space while not being used.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent in the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention which illustrates the garment stretcher and wrinkle eliminator applied to a pair of trousers, the trousers being partially broken away for convenience of illustration.
Figure 2. is a side elevation of the invention in collapsed and folded position while not in use, partially broken away.
Figure 3 is a transverse cross-section taken on the line 33 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a transverse cross-section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows, and illustrating the hook for hanging the shoes as illustrated in broken lines in Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the several figures, the reference numeral indicates generally a garment stretcher and wrinkle eliminator consisting of a tubular member 11, having a hook-like member 12 formed on one of its ends, and adapted to receive the rod 13 telescopically within its opposite end. The rod 13 is slidable within the member 11.
A hook 14 is formed on the opposite end of the rod 13 and consists of a right angled portion 15, having a partially reversed bend 16 formed thereon. The end of this portion 16 is reverted as at 17, see Figure 4, or a rubber terminal may be applied thereto so that the heel 18 of the shoe 19 can be hung thereon without injuring the same. The shoes 19 are illustrated in broken line position. The hook member 12 is of the same construction as that above-described for the hook member 14.
A clip 34 is provided for clipping to the tubular member 11 while a clip 35 is adapted to be clipped to the forward edge of the inside crotch 36 of the garment. The clips 34 and 35 are connected together by a tension spring 37. The garment 33 is held by a conventional hanger 38, which may be hooked over the rail 39 in the usual manner.
I will now describe how my new and improved garment stretcher and wrinkle eliminator 10 is applied to the trousers 33. The cufis of the trousers 33 are hung by the hanger 38 as illustrated in Figure 1. The telescopic member 11 is expanded to the desired width whereon the clips 20 can be applied to the waist band 32 of the trousers 33, as shown. The clip 35 is applied to the crotch 36 of the trousers 33, preferably towards the front of the trousers 33, while the clip 34 is applied to the tubular member 11, stretching the spring 37 so as to put a tension between the waist band 32 of the trousers 33 and the crotch 36. This eliminates wrinkles formed in the front part of the trousers 33.
Weight is applied to the hooks 12 and 14. This weight can be supplied by shoes 19 by hanging the heels 18 over the hook members 16, therefore no additional outside equipment is necessary other than this device which can be collapsed into a small space as illustrated in Figure '2 when not in use. While in this collapsed position the spring 37 holds the same in this position as illustrated in Figure 2.
Skirts, shirts, jackets or other garments can be stretched and the wrinkles eliminated by this device as well as trousers.
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should be understood that numerous modifications and structural adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A garment stretcher and wrinkle eliminator for trousers suspended from their lower end comprising an elongated tube, a rod telescopically mounted in said tube, a depending hook formed on one end of said tube, a second depending hook formed on one end of said rod, said depending hooks being arranged in spaced relation, a spring clamp carried by said tube adjacent said first hook, a second spring clamp carried by said rod adjacent said second hook, said clamps detachably securing said rod and said tube to the waist band of said trousers, a clamp detachably engaging the crotch portion of said trousers, and resilient means connecting said last named clamp to said tube for maintaining tension between said tube and said crotch portion, said hooks adapted to carry removable weights whereby said trousers may be stretched to eliminate wrinkles therein.
