HOSEA I. ALDRICH, OF {"1. HELENA, NlflBltASKA, ASSlGNOR OF 'l\\'0-.'.l1-IlRDS TO EDVARD I DRAKE AND .TAIOB N. LEB'ION, O1! SAME PLACE.
E AVES-G UTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 280,111, dated June 26, 1883.
Application filed April 19, lFPIl. (No model.) I
To all whom, it may concern:
' Be it known that I, Hoseav ISAAC Aipnnion, a citizen of the United States, of St. Helena, county of Cedar, State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful. Improvement in l laves-(flutters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, n'iaking part of this specification.
My invention relatesto an improvement in eaves-troughs; and it consists in forming the eaves-trough of sections, and in providing a connecting device of peculiar construction, whereby the sections may be coupled or detached when necessary, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
The object of inyinventionis to produce an eavesgutter that is composed o't'sections which may be detached or attached without the aid of a tinsmith or solder, that is simple and inexpensive, that can be readily transported, and applied to a roof without the aid of a skilled artisan.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
The trough is formed in sections (1, having at one end an enlarged rim or shoulder, Z), in
which the plain end of the next section can be placed, as shown, lorniing a tight joint, 0. At the enlarged end of one of the sections is. formed an ear, ('1, in which arod, 0, is adapted to hook, the opposite side of the same section being provided with a spring-hook, f, under which the rod 0 catches. This rod (2 acts as a lever, its resistance being at the ear g, formed in the plain end of one of the sections, upon which it bears, thus pressing the sections tightly together and rendering the joint per- 'tectly tight. The connection thus formed may be readily broken by detaching the rod 0 from the hook Having thus described my invention, 1 claim- The sections, having the enlarged shoulder 1) at one end, ear (I, spring-hook], and a bearing-ear, formed on their plain ends, in combination with a rod, 1', that is adapted to couple the sections, substantially in the manner described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of April, A. l). 1883.
HOSEA ISAAC ALDRICH \Vitnesses:
JOHN \V. lni'rz, THEODORE- Lonoxc.
