Description
R. GUIN Y TOUSSAINT 2,800,825
MUSICAL spoon Filed Oct. 19, 1954 July 30, 1957 INVENTOR FIG. 3 RAUL cum Y TOUSSAINT BY XZQQQM ATTORNEYS United States Patent MUSICAL SPOON Raul Guin y Toussaint, Havana, Cuba Application October 19, 1954, Serial No. 463,236 Claims priority, application Cuba February 1, 1954 1 Claim. (Cl. 84-94) This invention relates to a musical spoon particularly adapted for entertaining children.
An object of the invention is to produce a spoon capable of fulfilling its ordinary use and which will serve also as an entertainment for children particularly at the time they are being fed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device which is capable of distracting children particularly those who sutier from anorexia or lack of appetite so that they will receive proper nourishment.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction whereby the music produced may be very easily changed at any time.
With the above and other objects in view which will become apparent from the following detailed description one form of the invention is shown in the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved spoon;
Figure 2 is a partial cross sectional view particularly through the handle of the spoon;
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken upon section line 3-3 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a similar view with the parts in a different position.
In the various views similar reference characters indicate like parts.
The spoon consists essentially of three elements which are the bowl 5, a removable handle portion 6 and a musical mechanism 7 shown particularly in Figure 2.
The bowl has made integral therewith a handle portion 8 which is provided at the end removed from the bowl with an enlarged portion 9 having a threaded socket 10 to receive the threaded screw 11 provided upon the removable handle 6. In the form shown the musical mechanism 7 comprises a revolving cylinder 12 having pegs 13 thereon which upon being revolved actuate the steel prongs upon the usual comb-like tuning fork (not shown). The cylinder 12 is driven by a spring mechanism 14 which may be wound by means of the winding stem 15 in the usual manner. A reduction gear is inserted between the spring 14 and the cylinder 12 and there is also as is usual in these constructions a rotating element 16. The element 16 rotates during the time the cylinder 12 rotates and when the element 16 is stopped in its rotation this causes the cylinder 12 to cease rotating and thereby stops the music. In order to accomplish the starting and stopping of the rotation of the cylinder 12 there is pivotally mounted upon a cover element 17 a control element 18 having a pin 19 which projects through 2,800,825 Patented July 30, 1957 an aperture 20 provided in the cover element 17 and the pin 19 when the control element 18 is depressed comes into the path of rotation of the member 16. This will stop the cylinder 12 from rotating and thereby stop the music.
The cover element 17 is releasably secured to the removable handle 6 by means of the spring latches 21. A spring may be inserted between the pivoted element 18 and the cover plate 17 in order to return the pin 19 to inoperative position if desired but ordinarily the control member 18 may be operated manually and will retain whatever position it may be placed in.
In Figure 3 the pin 19 is illustrated in inoperative position while in Figure 4 it is in position to stop the music.
It is obvious that various changes may be made in the above construction. For instance the shape of the handle 6 may have different configurations. Also the stop element 18 may be placed at the end of the handle 6 and the same applies to the positioning of the winding element 15 for the spring 14. Itis also obvious that the means for releasably securing the handle portion 8 to the removable portion 6 may be modified as desired.
It is apparent that with the construction described above the removable handle portion 6 may be quickly and easily removed and another handle having a different music box therein easily and quickly installed upon the handle portion 8. This is to maintain the interest of the child since a too frequent playing of any tune will soon tire children.
The handle portion 6 may be provided with apertures 22 to facilitate the emission of the sound waves from the chamber within the handle 6. These apertures 22 may be located at any part of the handle 6 and also they may vary in number as desired.
Also the musical mechanism 7 may be so mounted within the chamber provided in the removable handle 6 that it may be easily and quickly replaced by a similar mechanism having a diiferent tune.
It is thought that the invention and its advantages will be understood from the foregoing description and it is apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described and illustrated in the drawings being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
A fiat table ware piece having a handle, said handle having a recess therein extending substantially the entire length of said handle, an enlarged portion on the forward portion of said piece having a threaded socket therein, a threaded screw upon said handle detachably secured in said socket, a cover for said recess detachably secured upon said handle and a control element for a musical element located in said recess pivotally mounted upon said cover.
