Claims priority, application Great Britain December 17, 1952 1 Claim. (Cl. 74-489) This invention relates to combination control assemblies applicable to motorcycles.
In accordance with the present invention we provide a control boss to which is adjustably attached a lever and which is securable by clamping means to a switch terminal comprising a spring controlled switch collar and push button carried by a twist grip flange provided with a twist sleeve and end and a terminal plug adapted to be secured to a motorcycle handle-bar passing axially through the arrangement.
The drawings accompanying the specification illustrate one form of the invention by way of example, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of the control assembly;
Fig. 2 shows a side elevation corresponding to Fig. l;
Fig. 3 shows a section on the line [[-II of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows a cross-section taken transversely through Fig. 1.
In one form of device made in accordance with the present invention adapted for use with a motorcycle we provide a control boss 1 to which there is secured by a screwed bolt and slot arrangement 2, 3 a lever 4 for operating a Bowden brake or clutch. The control boss 1 is secured by the clamping bolt 12 through the engagement of the threaded end 5 of the bolt 12 with the collar 6 to a divided sleeve 8, divided at 7, forming part of a socket 9 through the axial orifice 10 of which there passes the relevant handle-bar 11 of the motorcycle. A bolt 12 engaging in sleeve 8 allows the lever 4 to rock. The socket 9 is provided with a projecting part 13 diametrically opposite the sleeve 8. Through this projecting part 13 there is an orlice 14 in which there is arranged a switch terminal 15 held in position by a spring 16 and collar 17 and a switch collar 18 which engages an externally threaded tubular projection 19 on the socket 9. In known manner, the collar 18 is medially ori-ticed and holds in position against an oriced sleeve or terminal socket 20 which is insulated from terminal 15, a metallic push button contact 21 which protrudes through the iiaented .lune 25, 1957 orice 22 in the collar 1S at one end and at the other end is provided with a central stabilising pin 23 and flange 2a, 2S which engage against pressure of spring 26, respectively with the metallic terminal 15 and metallic terminal socket Ztl connected with the leads of cable 27a. 28a is an insulating cap. When the button 23 is pressed it connects terminals 20, 15 electrically and closes the circuit of a dipper oil switch which operates the horn. Collar 6 is provided with a flange 27 at the side which is presented towards the handle when the collar 6 is in position; and to this flange 27 there is secured a twist grip flange 2S which holds between itself and the aforesaid tiange 27 on the collar 6 a twist sleeve 29. Sleeve 29 is provided with an annular groove 30 in which a key 31 secures one end of a cable 32 leading to the throttle control. Cable 32 passes through an annular guide cap 33. Twist grip flange 28 is secured to ange 27 by a screw and socket arrangement 34, 35; 36 is a push grip handle on handle sleeve 37, which forms a sliding lit on handle-bar 11 and also forms the hub of twist sleeve 29.
It will be seen that the present invention provides a convenient assembly for the cyclist to operate the brake orclutch, the horn and the throttle control.
It will be seen that details of the construction may be varied in many ways without departing from the scope of the invention.
What we claim is:
A combination control assembly comprising a split socket and a flange axially oriiiced to be secured about and coaxially with a motorcycle handle bar, a screwed bolt and nut arrangement for securing said socket about said handle bar, coaxial orilices on the adjacent ends of said split socket forming a sleeve arrangement, a handle sleeve adapted to be fitted coaxially on to said handle bar having a twist sleeve secured coaxially therewith and externally thereto, an annular groove around said twist sleeve adapted to receive a cable, a twist grip flange secured coaxially with and externally to said twist sleeve, holding said twist sleeve between itself and said ange, and secured to said flange by a screw and socket arrangement, a push grip handle secured externally to and coaxially with said handle sleeve, a tubular projection on said socket spaced from said split and oriticed to carry electrical contact devices, a lever for operating a Bowden brake or clutch and having a part disposed in said split in said socket and pivotally secured to said socket by a threaded bolt and nut arrangement, whereby a socket anda single bolt secure a plurality of control devices to said handle bar.
