To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. HOLDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corpus Christi, in the county of Nueces and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Deof which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to means for removably attaching pumps to oil and other cans and the like, and has for its object to provide simple, inexpensive, and efficient means that can In the drawings, Figure l is a side view of the can and pump secured thereto. Referring to the drawings, A designates the can, which is provided in its top with a pump opening, B, first formed circular and then slit which tapers around down to a point, E, about opposite to the slit 0.
F is the pump-cylinder, which is provided at the desired point, with a spring, G, coiled around its body and secured thereto only at the top H and bottom I, the central coils'of the spring being thus capable of movement on the cylinder.
The method of securing and the advantages I of my invention will be readily understood. The pump-cylinder is inserted in the opening 3 5 in the can until its spring rests above the opening, when it is only necessary to turn the cylinder until the lower end of the spring engages the flange around the opening atthe slit. Now,
by turning the cylinder the pump will be 40 screwed into the can, the spring serving as an elastic screw-thread, which will make a tight joint and hold the pump firmly in place.
I claim as new 1. The cylinderhavingaspring coiledaround 5 its body and secured only at the top and bottom ends of the spring to said cylinder, the central coils of the spring being capable of movement, whereby the cylinder is adapted to I be screwed into an opening, the spring serv- 5o ing as elastic screw-threads, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the can having an opening originally circular but slit in its edge, and said edge being turned up on one side of said slit to form a guide-flange, which gradually tapers to a point opposite the slit, of the pump-cylinder having a spring coiled around its body and secured thereto only at the top and bottom of the spring, as set forth.
