Description

(No Model.)
W. F. HALL.
DOOR KNOB ATTACHMENT.
Patented June 5, 1883.
INVENTUH UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM F. HALL, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DOOR-KNOB ATTACH MENT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 278,704, dated June 5, 1883,
Application filed April 9, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, XVILLI'AM F. HALL, acitizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Door-Knobs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making which are secured to the spindle a by means of screws passing through the necks or shanks b of the knobs.
C O are two rose-plates, which are screwed to opposite sides of the door, and are each provided with a neck, 0, which fits over the neck b of the knobs.
The knob Bis provided on its inner side with. an annular recess, (1, formed by milling or otherwise, for the purpose of receiving one or more washers, e, which are thus interposed between the end of the neck a of the rose 0 and the knob B. By thus constructing the knob B with an annular recess for the recep 35 tion of the washers e, the knobs A B can be nicely adjusted to fit doors of varying thickness, and all rattle and play thus avoided. Furthermore, a great saving in time and labor is effected, as the holes in the spindle a for the 0 reception of the screws which hold the knobs in place will not have to be so accurately bored as heretofore, thus lessening the expense of manufacture.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A door-knob provided with an annular re cess, d, and neck 12, in combination with a rose, O, with its neck 0, and the washers c, all constructed to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
. fitness my hand this 7th day of April, A. D. 1883.
Y'VILLIAM F. HALL.
In presence of- CLARA P. HALL, HENRY Y. HALL.
