Description

J. C. FONG March 26, 1957 TOY Filed July 18. 1955' m f W R mmw m5 m N w M m zr mm in m a Y B United States Patent TOY Joseph C. Fong, San Francisco, Calif.
Application July 18, 1955, Serial No. 522,452
2 Claims. (Cl. 46-1) This invention relates to a toy or the like and particularly relates to a toy having a platform equipped with rockers and having a cylinder which is free to roll along the platform, but which is held in place and is prevented from coming olf the platform by a plurality of tapes.
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a compact toy which may be played with, either on a table, or while being held in the hand, which does not readily come apart and which is inexpensive to manufacture.
In the drawings forming a part of this application:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the toy of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the toy of the present invention.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the toy of the present invention.
Figure 4 i a section on the lines 44 of Figure 3.
Referring now to the drawings by reference characters, there is shown a toy having a platform, generally designated 6, and having a cylinder, generally designated 8, free to roll thereon. A pair of tapes and 12 are attached to the cylinder 8 at the points 14 and 16, respectively, as shown. The opposite ends of tapes 10 and 12 are fastened to one end of the platform 6 at point 18. Another tape 20 is provided, one end of which is fastened to the cylinder at point 22, while the opposite end of tape 20 is passed through slot 24 of platform 6 and fastened at point 26.
Under the platform 6, two rockers 28 and 30 are provided. These protrude from the center of the platform and have a flat center portion. In this manner, the platforms may be placed, with the cylinder in the center thereof, flat on the rockers 28 and the toy will remain balanced on a table. On the other hand, if either end is pushed down, such as the right-hand end as is shown in Figure 3, the cylinder 8 will run to the down end of the toy and one may thus play with the toy by merely pressing alternately on opposite ends of the platform 6. On the other hand, it is possible to play with the toy without the use of a table or the like, and the platform 6.-
may be merely held in one hand and tilted up and down.
It is believed apparent from the foregoing that I have described a novel toy, of simple construction, which is capable of giving much enjoyment to a child.
I claim:
1. A toy comprising an elongated platform, a cylinder having a height slightly less than the width of said platform, said cylinder being free to roll over said platform, a first tape slightly horter than the length of the platform, said first tape having first and second ends wherein the first end of the tape is attached near one end of the platform at the center thereof, said tape passing under said cylinder and being attached at its second end to a point near the center of the wall of said cylinder, a pair of second tapes each of substantially the same length as the first tape, said second tapes lying on each side of the first tape, one end of each of said second tapes being attached to the platform near the opposite end from the point of attachment of the first tape, said second tapes passing under said cylinder and each having opposite ends attached to said cylinder whereby said cylinder can roll freely over substantially the entire length of the platform but wherein said tapes restrain the cylinder from rolling completely oil the platform.
2. The device of claim 1 wherein the platform is provided with a rocker in the center thereof.
