DEVICE. FOR HOLDING CORD,TAPE,.&C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 278,615, dated May 29, 1883.
V v Applicationfiled June 3,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FREDERIO SLEEPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a Device for Preventing the Unrolling of 00rd, Tape, &c.-, from Spools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in the improved dero vice hereinafter described and claimed, whereby a coil,of cord or tape may be conveniently suspended from a fixed rod or support, so that the cord or tape may be readily drawn ott' as I required. a
- Of'the accompanying drawings, forming a '25 cylinder having two flanges, between which a coil of cord or tape, it, is wound.
In carrying out my inventionI provide the reel with a supporting device composed of a continuous piece of metal wire bent to form c. arms 2 2 atopposite sides of the reel and pivots 3 3 at right angles to said arms, and entering the, center of the reel, so that the latter can rotate on said pivots, a U-shaped arm or cross-piece,5, connecting the arms2 2 and projecting downwardly from said arms toward the coil of cord or tape on the reel, and coils or loops 1). 1), connecting the arms 2 2 with the branches of the arm 5, and constituting eyes the coil.
1 which may receive a fixed horizontal rod, from which the device may be suspended. Thec'eno tral portion, a, of the U-shapcd arm 5 bears. with a yielding pressure on the periphery of It will be seen that the coils or loops I) I) serve both to receive a fixed pivot or support, 4 5
aware that such a device is not new, it having been used to hold acoil of fiat tape.
I claim- 1. The combination, with the reel R, of the supporting device having the arms 2 2 at opposite sides of the reel, the pivots 3 3 on said 6o arms entering the center of the reel, the connecting-arm or cross-bar 5, and the coils or loops 1) b, forming eyes adapted to receive a fixed rod or pivot from which the device may be suspended, as set forth. 2. .In combination with the flanged reel R, the spring holding device 2 2 Z) 3, the part 3 lying between the flanges of the reel and the parts 2 2 extending outside of the flanges of the reel, and being bent to enter the center thereof, as set forth.
CHARLES FRED. SLEEPER.
