Description
Feb. 26, 1957 S. HERSHEY CADDY BAG CART KIT Filed Nov. 15, 1954 I INVENTOR. SFEPHEN HERMEY .4 TTORA/EX United States Patent CADDY BAG CART KIT Stephen Hershey, Bristol, Conn.
Application November 15, 1954, Serial No. 468,601
2 Claims. (Cl. 224-29) This invention relates to golfing accessories, and more particularly to a kit board for attachment to a caddy bag cart for carrying in convenient position a score card, a pencil, a golf ball, a plurality of wooden tees, a cigarette package and a book of matches.
One object of the present invention is to provide a kit board of the above nature which is provided with means for detachably securing it to the inclined handle of the caddy bag cart.
A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install and manipulate, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very efficient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view, there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing, one form in which the invention may conveniently be embodied in practice.
In the drawing,
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of the kit board in filled condition showing its appearance when attached to the handle of the cart.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the kit board on a larger scale, in empty condition.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the same.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the same, the handle being shown in dotted lines.
Referring now to the drawing, in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, the numeral indicates a horizontal, rectangular board, preferably constructed of plastic, and having in its rear corner a circular depression 11 for receiving a golf ball 12, and provided with a cup-shaped depending socket 13 having a center opening 14 for permitting the golf ball to be lifted therefrom.
At the right hand portion of the board 10, provision is made of a plurality of upstanding integral posts 15, 16, 17, preferably cylindrical in construction, and having semicircular undercut inwardly extending sections 19, 20, 21. The posts 15 to 17 are adapted to detachably receive a cardboard score card 23 for keeping the golf score of the player.
Provision is also made of a plurality of tee-receiving holes 24, adjacent the ball aperture 11.
A pencil holding tube 25 is also provided, said tube being open at the top and having a depending bottom section 26, the lower portion of which is provided with a reduced interior conical hole for embracing the lead point 28a of the pencil 28.
Provision is also made of a rectangular dependingpockct 30 for receiving a cigarette package 29, the bottom of said pocket having a pair of circular holes 31, 32 for permitting the reception of cigars therein when the cigarette package is not being used.
On the rear of the board, adjacent the ball pocket 13, provision is made of a tapered U-shaped notch 37 for re ceiving a single cigarette. Also, one side of the cigarette pocket is provided with an offset recess 33 for receiving a match book 34. I
.Underneath the kit board 10 at the central portion 2,782,971 Patented Feb. 26, 1957 thereof, provision is made of a pair of depending flat crossed ribs 35, 36 for reinforcing the board at this point.
In order to secure the board 10 to the inclined handle 42 of the caddy bag cart, provision is made of an integral clamping block 38, preferably of plastic, having a semicircular recess 40, cooperating with a similar block 39 having a semicircular recess 41, said recesses having a slant of about degrees from the horizontal.
The lower block 39 is adapted to be secured to the upper block 38 by means of a pair of screws 43, 44, passing through drilled holes 47, 48, 49 and 50 in said blocks, respectively, the upper portions of said screws being permanently embedded in the block 38, during the molding thereof.
In order to hold the blocks 38, 39 securely in any desired adjusted position along the handle 42, provision is made of a pair of wing nuts 45, 46, which are mounted on the lower ends of the screws 43, 44. A pair of Star washers 51, 52 are located between the wing nuts 45, 46 and the blocks 39.
While there has been described in this specification, one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not limited to the specific disclosure, but may be modified and embodied in various other equivalent forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent is:
1. In a kit for attachment to the normally inclined handle of a caddy bag cart, a generally rectangular flat member having a downwardly directed cup-shaped depression formed therein to removably support a golf ball, when said flat member is horizontally positioned, said depression having an opening in the bottom thereof of less diameter than said ball, and a pair of separable clamping blocks having complementary concave recesses to detachably embrace said handle, one of said blocks being secured to the underside of said fiat member, the inclination of the curvature of said recesses being such as to maintain said first mentioned flat member substantially horizontal when clamped to said handle.
2. The invention as defined in claim 1, wherein said first mentioned flat member is provided with a plurality of spaced apertures to removably receive the downwardly directed stems of golf tees to support said golf tees when said flat member is horizontally positioned.
