Patented May Z2, 1883.

UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS H. STEWART, OF NEW YORK, N. Y:
SIDE DRAWER-CASE FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,955, dated May 22, 1883,
Application tiled September 19, 1882. (No model.) I i To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS HrSrEWART, of the city and county of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Side Drawer-Gases for Sewing# Machines and other Purposes,of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanyin g drawings, is a full, clear, and accurate description.
The object of my invention is to produce a simple, neat, and cheap case of drawers for sewing-machines or other similar purposes.
In Figure l of the drawings is represented a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section, taken on line of Fig. 1, of the same, showing a method for sliding the drawers of the case in and out and holding the same in position. Fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section, taken on line y y of Fig. 1, of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My improved case of drawers is made as follows: A represents the side or board to which are attached a top, bottom, and any number of intermediate shelves, B, that may be desired. Between these shelves B are fitted drawers D, that are guided and held in their proper position by means of the following de vice: On the bottom side of the shelves B is cut a groove, a, extending lengthwise of the shelves B to within a half-inch of each edge. Secured to the inner part of the back of the drawers D is a plate, (l, provided with a Vprojection fitting loosely into and sliding withiu the grooves a. Upon the bottom of the drawers D are out similar grooves, b, and simiing-machine table or by attaching the side A to the standards or side legs of the sewingmachines, and thus dispense with the costly and elaborate cabinets or covers now in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination, a case of drawers formed, as described, with the side A, supporting lat eral shelves B, formed with central longitudinal grooves on their under faces,-and having metallic projecting plates c on their upper faces, atone end of the same and midway their width, the drawers D, formed with central longitudinal grooves on their under faces, and having projecting plates C Secured near the center of the upper edge of their inner ends, said drawers adapted to move parallel with the sides A and in line with the grooves and projecting pins, substantially as Shown.
1n testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of August, A. D. 1882.
