1 Claim. (Cl. 132-46) This invention relates to a hair clip of the type comprising a clip member and an ornamental face member secured together, which article is intended to be worn in the hair for the purposes of retaining the hair in place and of ornamentation.

The principal object is to provide an improved construction whereby the two members are firmly, securely, and inexpensively secured together Without the necessity of any soldering or cementing operation.

The economy and simplicity of the manufacture of the articles will appear from the following description of the invention, reference being had to the acompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is an exploded view in side elevation of the two members that constitute .the device, prior to being assembled;

Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of .the device after the :two members thereof have been assembled and secured;

Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on an enlarged scale and partly broken away, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;

Fig. 4 is a similar vertical sectional View, taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3; and

Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.

The two component members of the device are a clip member and a face member 11. The former is preferably a metal clip, such as an ordinary bobby pin, having two legs 1213 connected at one end by a spring loop 14. The face member 11 may be made of metal, such as white metal, plastic, or other suitable material. The rear end of the member 11 may be formed or provided with an upright wall or stop that serves as an abutment or placement for the loop 14 of the clip member 10 when the two members are in assembled relation as shown in Fig. 2.

2,773,505 Patented Dec. 11, 1956 tending upwardly are a pair of ears or lugs 16, which lugs are spaced apart widthwise of said member a distance substantially equal to that of the width of the clip-leg 12 so that said leg will fit closely between them, and of a height somewhat greater than the thickness of said leg so that the ears have projecting portions that may be clamped or clinched down upon said leg as hereinafter described.

The opposite or front end of the member 11 is provided with an anchor block 17 having an interior recess 18 of a size and shape to receive tightly the front end 19 of the clip-leg 12, and to hold it securely in place.

The two members 10 and 11 are assembled by inserting the end 19 of the clip-leg 12 into the recess 18 of the anchor block 17, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1, then the cans 16 are clamped or clinched down upon the leg 12 of the clip, thereby firmly and permanently fastening the two members together without the necessity of soldering, cementing, or any other fastening means or operation.

The outer or exposed portion 21 of the face member 11 may have a plain surface or it may be ornamented with rhinestones, natural or simulated jewels, or in any other desired manner.

It is to be understood that modifications of the construction described may be made within the purview of the invention.

What I claim is:
